well I wear the V-neck underneath my dress shirt so that the undershirt fabric isn't sticking above the dress shirt on my chest. So I don't care if the shirt itself looks silly because the point of wearing them for me is so that you don't see the undershirt

I think being able to see the undershirt when your shirt isn't buttoned all the way up looks cleaner/classier than not seeing an undershirt at all. This isn't Miami Vice... unless it's a costume party

I disagree. Just to clarify, we're talking about formal wear so it is the very top button that I don't button unless I am wearing a tie. I don't have chest hair popping out or anything. I don't think it looks bad to have an undershirt showing, just more casual. For instance, if I am wearing jeans with a dress shirt or a more casual button up I button one less button than I do for formal wear and I wear a non V-neck undershirt that is showing. But for work I think no undershirt showing is cleaner. Just personal preference.

they don't look silly

because you can't see them

the whole point of the v-neck is so you can wear an undershirt without anyone seeing it

because the point of an undershirt is to protect your regular shirt from your sweaty, disgusting self

having a visible undershirt advertises your predisposition to perspiration

this look is completely counterintuitive

why wear a shirt with an unbuttoned collar, emphasizing a v shape, if you're going to destroy said shape by wearing a round-collared shirt underneath?

No you aren't. I don't think you understand what formal means.

the only thing that look emphasizes is that the doofus is wearing skinny jeans

and doing some retarded ass "thumb-in-belt-loop" shit

probably because he can't even get his hand in his tight ass skinny jean pocket

are you suggesting he should button the top, and not wear a tie? Would this also imply a tie without a jacket? And with jeans?

Clearly it would be better for him to look like a ex-con/retard/chinese

no

if you're buttoning the top, you should be wearing a tie

and if you're wearing a tie, you should be wearing a jacket

if you're doing the jeans and shirt thing without buttoning the collar, you should wear a v-neck undershirt, so you're not all "HAY GUYZ CHECK OUT MY UNDERSHIRT"

I always wear regular under shirts except that I have several different colors and I pair it with my polo, dress shirt, or t-shirt.

Sorry, didn't mean formal wear as in tuxedo or black tie so I shouldn't have used those words. I'm talking about professional clothing.

And yes, the picture I posted above with the undershirt showing and the stupid thumb-in-jeans pose was displaying what I don't like to wear with dress shirts. It doesn't bother me that much, I just personally try not to do it when I am dressing for work as I think it just looks a little too casual.

my neck is so big that V-necks are still plainly visible underneath a polo shirt on me.

I saw a v neck t-shirt with a pocket in it and some kind of design on it (hipster?)... I don't think I'll ever warm up to v necks.

I think you people are crazy, I've never thought about it and it doesn't bother me either way. I think a darker polo all the way unbuttoned with a fairly wide V looks good with a clean bright white, non-stretched undershirt as a contrast

Or now that I'm overthinking it, what about a predominantly white polo, with a navy blue undershirt that kind of matches the jeans in that case?

Who gives a fuck. Wear what you wanna wear. If you lack self-confidence enough to worry about showing your "predisposition to perspire", which undershirt you wear is the least of your problems

no reason to have fucking pit stains on a work shirt if it is easily avoidable.

some people sweat alot, others dont. for those of us that sweat, undershirts are as much about avoiding underarm wet spots as they are about avoiding permanent stains on a nice shirt. undershirts are an exceedingly simple solution to this problem.

I almost always wear crew neck to keep my chest hair under control. I think a dash of white looks better than the fur coat I'm wearing under it.

and i have one word for you feminine

see usually when people try to hard to make something sound one way means its really the complete opposite.

manscape... lets combine man with landscape and then people will think its just like mowing the lawn.. it sounds like its a mans duty!

and metros were born....

polos with oversized undershirts

the extra fabric coming out of the sleeve holes is no good

I've got nothing to add here, but I hate the way V-neck t-shirts look when worn by themselves. Usually it's like super, super skinny guys who wear them too and it looks retarded.

Yeah, this isn't the case. No one rolls around the office wearing their suit jacket unless they are going to a meeting right then.

I normally stay away from v-neck anything as my primary overshirt, but I got a couple nice v-neck sweaters as christmas gifts. I have just been wearing a normal matching undershirt or, if I'm going somewhere nice, I'll wear a button-up collared shirt under
