Where did I say you couldn't diminish bigotry? You can, but censorship is a counter-effective method. If you cut off someone's ability to express a belief, they don't just abandon that belief. Their conviction strengthens, and they find a different outlet. Free and open discussion is how things change. Censorship is cowardly and lazy.

Some thoughts should be censored and a good majority of those thoughts are ones designed specifically to create a controversy for controversy's sake but usually yield consequences that disturb a cohesive society.

I like how they defended their review by saying "if you aren't looking for stuff like that." If you intend to review a pic of this tunnel and have ever been there shouldn't you be looking for stuff exactly like that? Anyway it's an accurate, but sad, representation - minus Guy Fawkes. While it makes me sad someone wrote this, I still don't understand why they would cover it up. They don't go through covering up all the other racist remarks or the giant penises.. And that's why the tunnel was always so great. There's always going to be one asshole who tries ruining it for everyone, but wouldn't the best practice with getting rid of this word be not overreacting to its use?

On a side note, it cracks me up that "scrotum" and "sex" are in our engagement pictures... I was just glad to not have a big, veiny schlong above my head

I get that it is offensive, and I certainly don't think it is right for people to be painting that shit on campus, but getting rid of the tunnel because a few rubes drop the N-bomb with a spray can isn't the answer.

Is that your solution to everything that offends you, to just ban it? They have as much of a right to say it as you have to get offended by it.

Another thing that I don't think has been mentioned: how do you know it wasn't a black person that painted it? Would that make it less offensive to know it wasn't a good ole boy with a lip full of skoal that painted it?

Arguing the aesthetics of the tunnel is a completely different topic, because I'll agree that it is ugly as shit. However, as long as it is there then it should continue to be the free expression tunnel, not the "limited expression tunnel (happy thoughts only)."

Instead of getting butthurt over trivial things and expecting everyone to cater to your fragile sensibilities, just deal with it.
