I have no experience with them, but there is a huge aftermarket and I bet you could get pretty much any sort of parts to get/keep one going. They still made them (in mexico? or something) up until a few years ago, but I doubt they were up to snuff quality wise. They made like kabillions of them, I'm sure they will be around for a while.7/20/2011 3:07:16 AM |

Ford Taurus SHO (not resembling new one of course) they make a taurus SHO and it does everything the original did, its blazing fast and handles OK for a FWD based car (yea i know its AWD but its still a transverse engine) 1-3rd generation maxima the new altima is similar to the old maxima miura agreed 512TR agreed ...too many to list. it is pointless. if you keep picking out specific models and saying the one currently made should be like this I'm sure, but sticking to cars that have been actually discontinued cuts down the field a lot." |
i mean your way i'd be calling out thunderbolt fairlanes etc.
They do need to bring back the ford gt again so the price will drop on the last model and i can own one.7/20/2011 9:25:06 AM |

^The Nissan Silvia is/was closer to the original 240Z than the current 370Z. Too bloated, too big.
Ford is working on a new GT (very early stages though) 7/20/2011 9:33:33 AM |

Wrong! The 3.0CSL is a racing version of the 3.0CSi, an inline-six powered coupe in the E9 series. The E9 BMW was the predecessor of the E24 6-series, and was developed from the New Class 2000CS. The 2000CS did use a 2002 platform, so they're sort of related. But not really. Also, the E9 was one of the most beautiful BMW designs ever to leave the factory.

The thread starter was looking for cars that the idea of could be continued or resurrected as a new model to carry on the lineage of a great car.
your post is just requesting old models to be put back into production by the sound of it which in my opinion is dumb.. buy and restore the old model if that's what you want. If that's not what you meant, i'm sorry i miss understood.
I guess if you said you wish XXX models would have followed the original formula better that would be different... but you just said re make a bunch of models that are still being made in some form or another and most to the best of modern ability.
If you would have said things like the new gti should drop 200lbs of power windows seats and sound material to go back to the original minimalist *sports car* model that it was that would have been different.. you just said bring back the MKI Gti... which IMHO is a dumb comment.
And i didn't reply because i said "hmm.... not worth my time" 7/24/2011 3:13:32 PM |

And not some FWD bullshit" |
Been done. and it's not as much fun as you may thing it would be. Rear engine, rear wheel drive, stripped down to bare essenses car, no airbags and safety bullshit, just like eveyone here keeps dreaming about. And it is made to be affordable to masses. But like original veedub, it was not designed for performance but for economy.
