"Oh no, the colored beer cans will make people drink more!"

"I don't care the color of the can, i'm gonna have fun and get a little drunk, regardless!"

I'm so pumped about tailgating! Forecast now for partly to mostly sunny. High=93. Low=69.

p.s. they brought the colored cans back this year, so i imagine the "controversy" is still swirling.

"^Yep, and its pretty easy just to walk up to another tailgate, meet people and catch some of the games on TV. It's much harder to walk up on a tailgate and get free food and beer. That should always be your number one priority."

I agree that the drink part should be priority, but I don't agree that food has to be priority if you are bringing it on the entertainment side.

If your tailgate is lame, then you need the grill and food and all that going because that is your conversation topic, rallying around the food. But if you got the tv going, the cornhole, maybe a flip cup game, the food becomes much less important. When you could tailgate for an entire day 8 hours or so, this wasn't the case, but if I don't have quality food but enough entertainment and beer I'm fine. Worse case grab a $10 burger once inside and deal with that. Ideally you get the food the drinks and entertainment going.

But at this point I can't be the one in charge of food, drinks, entertainment, getting everyone there, etc. Just to much. Gotta put some responsibility on the friends to not fuck up the food.

Plus the double 6PM games to start the season is great as well, that has me pumped.

I like our group's system. We've got a pretty big group, and all the ladies squawk back and forth the week prior via an email string and they plan all the food. So the guys just have to focus on all the drinks, games, TV setup, tents, chairs, etc. We always have waaaaayy too much food and a huge spread. Hoh man I'm getting excited and hungry just thinking about tomorrow.

what? you are saying that it makes a group more social to sit around and watch TV than to break bread together? I would hate to be part of your tailgate.

We brought it pretty good this week... Cooked up some ribeyes, chili dogs, burgers on the grill... Dropped some chicken wings in the deep fryer and then scratch-made funnel cakes. We then used funnel cake batter to batter and fry random things fair style - cookies, strawberries, hot dogs, etc.

after the game we grilled some sausage and deep fried homemade potato chips.

And yes, we played beerpong, flipcup and cornhole. we had no need to veg out in front of a TV.

I just like having a TV so I can watch football while I wait for football

I don't need to sit in front of it though

^agreed. I was referring to the titan guy and his implication that tv was more important than good food for a tailgate. Food and drink are in fact the main components to successful tailgating. (well, that and friends)

I said the entertainment, not "A TV" is more important than food. And I stand by that, if I'm having fun, socializing, playing cornhole, flip cup, checking into a close football game in OT, I could care less about the food situation.

How about you read what I wrote next time.

heading to Death Valley this weekend, and the game is 12:00....don't know if I'm going to be able to grill or anything w/ the time crunch. Thinking of doing fried chicken, then down to the Esso Club for beers!

Thinking we might do chili and cornbread. And ol' trusty hotdogs for after the game (and maybe at half-time).

I think anyone can, but they give you a return slip that you have to show to get back in.

Anyone have a good lead on how much I can expect to spend on a decent Deep Cycle battery to power TV and speakers. Nothing big, maybe 100W. I plan on running my inverter from it and tailgating for 5-7 hours

grilling some boneless chicken thighs marinated in Carolina Treet with a sandwich option. Also some beer brats and knackwurst, plus the myriad of sides and desserts that the ladies will come strong with. I'm nostalgic this week for college days, so I'm going with Busch Light. It's going to be a great day.

**shit, just read that you were looking to buy one. Optima Yellow Top highly recommended. Got mine at Advance Auto**

^^ - Do you know the Ah capacity of the battery? If you're pulling 100W on a single deep cycle, you'll be close depending on the size.

I have an optima yellow top (can't remember capacity right now) that I've used for 2+ years now to drive audio (no video) at tailgates. at around 60W, with some overhead on inefficiencies of the inverter, i've run it 6 hours before without issue.

I think you'll be pushing it though w/ 100W load. 5 might be doable.

ah, i hear you. for the last couple seasons we've returned to our truck after the game and grilled some more until the parking lot is close to empty. certainly makes getting out of there much less frustrating.

Okay, got a battery over lunch.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart-27DC-6-Marine-Battery/16795212

115 Amp-Hours at 1A. I plan on running nothing more than a 45W TV through it. how long will this baby last?

TV power stats:

Voltage, Hz 100V - 240V, 50/60 Hz
Standby Mode 0.21W
Power Consumption 44W

Using an inverter(400W) that hooks directly to the battery
