has anyone else tried deviled eggs with avocado instead of mayo?also has anyone tried that blowing trick to peel an egg? i might try it tonight?]
6/10/2013 5:48:04 PM
I would eat the fuck out of hard boiled eggs if I could peel them more easily. But the need to peel sort of ruins them for me.]
6/10/2013 7:49:20 PM
I've done the baking soda thing it works.
6/10/2013 7:57:05 PM
the eggs need to be a few weeks old. fresh eggs don't peel worth a damn. doesn't matter if they're the overpriced eggs at the farmers' market or the cheapest eggs you could find at the shitty kitty.
6/10/2013 8:52:20 PM
while we're on the topic of eggs, imma try these this morninghttps://www.google.com/search?q=eggvocado
6/11/2013 9:17:55 AM
^mmmmcrack lightly and roll the egg on a hard surface. and i read that a liittle vinegar in the water makes pealing easier too.

6/11/2013 1:44:15 PM
anybody done this? does it work?
11/4/2013 4:14:59 PM
i love hardboiled eggs but i always fuck them upi'm paranoid about having them underdone so i always end up cooking them too long and the yolks get green
11/4/2013 4:36:34 PM
^^whaaaat im gonna try that tonighthttp://altonbrown.com/baked-eggs/
11/4/2013 4:42:16 PM
i actually dislike hard boiled eggs. i love medium or soft boiled, so i will try it as well, but cook for 5 minutes less.
11/4/2013 5:28:56 PM
I made deviled eggs again this weekend for the first time in weeks o.o so goodI also found that they're sooooo much easier to peel when warm and done right. Not a single one of my eggs fell apart or tried to stick to the shell. This is an accomplishment, usually one or two in a bunch is a pain to peel
11/5/2013 9:29:48 AM
I tried these once a few years back for the first time. I remember thinking it was gross and why would anyone eat an egg in any way other than scrambled. Kind of want to give it a go again. I feel like there has got to be a way to enjoy these?Another qfred banger. 2011 is like prime qfredNeed to see what a devil egg is[Edited on October 13, 2025 at 3:56 PM. Reason : Surprised ppl eat eggs like this so frequently. Ppl on page 1 eat like every day!]
10/13/2025 3:31:25 PM
I eat one most mornings, carry it to work, very convenient and healthy.Steam for 11 minutes, directly into iced water.[Edited on October 13, 2025 at 4:03 PM. Reason : really, you've only eaten these once in your life?]
10/13/2025 4:02:40 PM
^^how the everloving fuck do you not know what a deviled egg is
10/13/2025 4:39:23 PM
^^once ever. It tasted weird. Maybe i should give it another try^haven't had chance to chatgpt it yet
10/13/2025 5:09:29 PM
Oh i've seen those, just didn't know they were called that. Way too much effort. Thats another thing scrambled has going for it over hard boiled eggs
10/13/2025 5:42:59 PM
You can't get much less work than boiling eggs.Put a dozen Grade A eggs in a pot together. Add enough water to cover said eggs.Turn burner on high heat and place lid on pot. As soon as the eggs START to boil, cut off the burner and leave the lid on and the pot on the burner for like 30 minutes or until it's cool enough to handle. Drain off water and put the eggs back in the carton. You just hardboiled a DOZEN eggs using like 5 minutes of active burner time.
10/13/2025 7:22:13 PM
Its the peeling thats a deal breaker!
10/13/2025 7:42:07 PM
It's pretty easy in my experience. Every now and then you get a tough one.Never microwave them. They will explode.
10/14/2025 1:33:03 AM
Scrambled eggs 3 separate bursts of 30 seconds and done. But i still will try this again soon, perhaps tonightWill try your method]
10/14/2025 7:44:46 PM
My method is for maximum energy conservation and cooking efficiency, not fastest time to have a ready-to-eat hardboiled egg. But clean-up is also comparatively easy. Pour out egg water, rinse and wipe pot. Done.I like to eat them with some Texas Pete hot sauce (from North Carolina). Once you eat the yolk, you are left with an egg white shot glass for hot sauce. Teh winz!]
10/14/2025 7:52:35 PM
Always microwave them. They will explode.
10/14/2025 7:54:54 PM
The one day i tried them a few years back, i suspect i cooked too long, maybe thats why they tasted funky. Heard they can be quite tricky to get right[Edited on October 14, 2025 at 8:04 PM. Reason : Or maybe i just think they taste funky with egg/yolk segregated]
10/14/2025 8:03:27 PM
Gonna try just one for now to not waste them in case i fuck up. Got burner on highest it will go and used cold water....idk if i shoulda used hot water to speed up boiling process
10/14/2025 8:14:16 PM
The coz method, but removing from burner and only waiting like 15 minSeems ok?Tasted better than i remember but still weird. And peeling took a min. Going to google more...Didn't particularly care for hot sauce. But salt/pepper was good[Edited on October 14, 2025 at 8:51 PM. Reason : Add another thought]
10/14/2025 8:47:41 PM
Yep, looks like you successfully boiled an egg. Congrats, G!
10/14/2025 9:00:08 PM
So if i did a dozen like you said, do i peel immediately or as i eat them?
10/14/2025 9:09:15 PM
The wildest thing about this is that you also seem to be have no interest in fried eggs
10/14/2025 10:07:00 PM
Fried = unhealthy?I am honestly shocked how prevalent it seems hard boiled eggs are for users itt. I'd think like a few times a year at most[Edited on October 14, 2025 at 10:19 PM. Reason : Add another opinion]

So far seeing there is an air fryer method and steam basket method. Will try both and get back to you all. Also a instapot method but def not trying that way. Air fryer prob the way to go with this. 250F for 16 minAir fryerSteamerBoth were edible but darker color in center, air fryer almost perfect. I guess i lucked out with The Coz method(didn't really time anything but adjusted his), it was perfect yellow all throughoutWith steamer method I guess next time i will shave about 3 min off, so 11 min. And for air fryer shave 2-3 min offPeeling i have got to figure something out, these last 2 i lost egg whites from peeling, and egg shell digging under my fingernails sucks. I'm sure google will have a better way. The lady in airfryer video like rolls it on cutting board but that didn't work well for me at allWhen I eat scrambled eggs(lately 4-5 days a week) I eat 3 eggs at a time. I guess i could try with this? So they don't spoil in the refrigerator after cooking? [Edited on October 15, 2025 at 1:49 AM. Reason : Read online that store bought are green inside][Edited on October 15, 2025 at 1:51 AM. Reason : Maybe 14min steaming if have a whole basket full, i only did 1. ][Edited on October 15, 2025 at 2:01 AM. Reason : Just read page 1 more thoroughly. Dang a dozen at once! ]]

Fried eggs are no more or less healthy than scrambled, both are done in a nonstick pan with or without oil or butterGreen yolks usually mean over cooked. Also to peel, run under cold water and let the water help. I think overcooking also makes peeling harder.
10/15/2025 7:05:02 AM
10/15/2025 9:06:23 AM
^^scrambled and hard boiled are equally healthy. One is mixed, the other isn't. Or are you not suggesting otherwise?^^^before I get the sams/costco hard boiled eggs, might try a cheap $3 pack of hard boiled eggs from walmart to see how they are^def not 14 ]
10/15/2025 11:46:16 AM
An egg is an egg, I don't think cooking method changes that. It's perfectly possible to make "fried" eggs without any added fats etc. Of course, they are better fried in fat, but scrambled eggs are also better with added fat.
10/15/2025 12:19:01 PM
When i made scrambled in a pan i used butter to keep from sticking to pan. Clean up still a pain. Learning microwave method was a game changer. Cheese also makes scrambled eggs less healthy lol /urkelPerhaps i will look into it. Not to sound like a broken record, but egg/yolk not mixed is still weird to meProb wouldn't work for the coz cause he likes to store cooked eggs, but reading you can use like a thumb tack to create a tiny hole, then boil them and they peel super easy. Loses the ability to prevent salmonella then, but probably superior if eating same day you cook[Edited on October 15, 2025 at 12:39 PM. Reason : More]
10/15/2025 12:28:16 PM
I wonder if this could be adapted for boiled eggs? Probably not:

I watched first like 4 min, then skipped to like last 3 min where his wife tried it. Did you just happen ti find it, or is that someone you subscribe to? Seems like a cool dude to follow

Just tried pinhole in steamer basket for 11 min. least easiest to peel. And i thought dark orange in center was overcooked but mine was dark and still kinda liquidy?Trying pinhole in airfryer now. These are over a week old too saw that listed online several times. Doing ice bath. Going to fine tune this, just getting burned out on eating eggs lolSo far waiting for boil and then turn off, remove from burner, let sit another 15 min method winswant to try that dash egg gizmo. Maybe goodwill has oneAre these undercooked? Outside of the very first one, all have 2 toned centers. And this was with less time...Chatgpt said "perfectly cooked"[Edited on October 15, 2025 at 4:01 PM. Reason : Gpt]

The coz method. This must be the way. I slightly cracked egg too, and peeling seemed better. Only way i've gotten uniform yellow yolkSoon as boil reached surface of water removed from heat. About 16 min. I timed this time. 3 min ice Bath[Edited on October 15, 2025 at 4:36 PM. Reason : Add another edit]

10/15/2025 4:57:25 PM
^^Thanks for breaking the thread! The method I espoused means you don't waste electrical energy boiling for 15 minutes. Just cover, bring it to a boil, and then immediately turn off the burner and let the pot cool down for a while. Never had it not be hard boiled with this method. Runny yolk is nasty. The video I posted upthread is a guy I watch regularly, although I don't use YouTube logged in and I don't subscribe to anything. In my view, he's the best solo engineer I've ever seen. It makes me feel totally inadequate. He is like a mechanical engineer, an electrical engineer, a computer programmer, a machinist, and a graphic artist rolled into one. The video quality is top notch. But he also is surprisingly personable for such a nerd, and with a great dry sense of humor. He went to UNCC (surprisingly), and lives in NC.
