Yes, but I'd never stoop to that level.

Professional athletes still have to pay income taxes for other states depending on where and how often they've played in each.

Having the majority of his games in FL helps but that salary won't be completely tax free at the state level.

ugh. 6% after $9000. that sucks.

^ but it'll be substantial enough. pretty sure derek jeter is a resident of florida for this reason.

I don't think so.

They take (salary earned / games in season ) x (games in each state)

The taxation of his endorsement income is probably the reason he lives in Florida.

i know athletes' salaries work different from normal peoples', and i'm not saying you're wrong because i don't know for sure myself, but i can't see where each state you play X number of games in would get to take a cut of your salary. i work in washington DC but live 3 miles away in virginia, partly because i'm saving several thousand dollars a year by paying virginia's income tax instead of DC's. it just seems ridiculous that you'd have to pay taxes from multiple different states when it's completely out of your control.

Look it up, it's commonly known as the "jock tax" because it ends up affecting them more so than others. The amount of tax prep work has to be insane.

But the general point is still there - if he's playing roughly 50% of his games where there's no income tax, then yes that's a huge savings on millions of dollars compared to playing for a team based in a state that has an income tax. There's no question it's beneficial for him to live in FL (or Texas, Washington, etc). I was just pointing out it's not 100% tax free at the state level

He would play SS in NY...because the Mets need someone there now.

But if they traded D-Wright I would vow to never watch the team ever again.

Thats how I feel about Hanley. Keep seeing more places reporting him as unhappy, team still denies it of course.

^^ you're probably right, although he's not that great defensively. i was saying that jokingly because it pisses me off when players like hanley ramirez are such primadonnas that they refuse to move over to another position when a better defender is coming to town, and hanley will probably end up at third in a few years anyway. it would just be hilarious if that's what happened. there was a similar situation with the yankees and derek jeter (only jeter didn't ask to be traded) when a-rod came over, and the better offensive and defensive shortstop ended up having to play third.

basically, you play on a team. do what's best for that team. shut the fuck up and stop being such a baby.

Surprise no one has posted about the ridiculous Buehrle signing. 4 yrs, $58 M. I just cant believe they are given him almost $15 M per. I thought he was older than 32 so I guess the Marlins still think he has a lot in the tank, but he seems like he only has 1-2 decent years left.

Also I guess they have cooled on Pujols now and will go after Prince.

Heard they aren't in on Fielder, but are still targeting Wilson though

Heard they're also talking to the Magic about Dwight

Hanley tweeted that he was happy and just with his family. Espn is blowing it out of proportion.
