Apple confiscated the motherboard when they raided Carl's place trying to get the macbook 3G back. due to pending legal matters between Apple and Carl, Carl cannot comment or otherwise acknowledge the allegedly confiscated materials.

unless you and your friend want to end up like Carl (ie not to be heard from again), I'd recommend you both cut your losses and move on before Apple finds you too

My experience with fregac led me to have to have to follow him around town as he tried to lose me turning throughout Raleigh neighborhoods. He eventually stopped in Harris Teeter parking lot, and pretended he never knew I was following him (now I laugh my ass of because he'd been running red lights, and making erratic turns in and out of neighborhoods for an hour trying to ditch me). Anyways, I demanded my money back, and I got it. It was a mess that went on for months, and I won't get into the details as the post would get too long. I still get a kick out of this guy even though I've got a macbook in worse non-working condition than what i started with. At least I eventually tracked down my money. Good luck, it takes persistence.

This story happened long before the legal issues he's in now, and has nothing to do with his current predicament. I was trying to get my laptop fixed on the cheap. Big mistake, but it still makes me laugh how it all went down. I almost got had.
