What do you mean? Income tax? Sales tax? Gas tax? Because I know in NJ they have all three of those.1/20/2012 10:30:01 AM |

for NC to be able to do that - we'd need to set up tolls on I-95 for sure - and prolly I-40 too 1/20/2012 10:55:46 AM |

^ Lol, try $13 for the Verrazano bridge from Brooklyn to SI.
Also, Delaware doesnt have sales tax at all...I wonder if that is due to the blatant highway robbery they commit on that 5 mile stretch of 95. 1/20/2012 1:31:40 PM |

when i moved from NC and found toll roads in Colorado, I really hated them. But after a while, I got used to the idea. There was a toll road from Boulder to the airport that had a very high speed limit and no traffic. I usually wouldn't take it, but if I was late for a flight, it was totally worth the $10.
This road that just opened in RTP is going to cost 52 cents per trip - I would take that charge every day if it would make my commute bypass traffic. How much gas money do you think you waste idling in traffic? 8/1/2012 1:26:36 PM |

^^^ I'm familiar with that toll road around Boulder. I about passed out at the cost to drive it while I was visiting there. So in that regards, yes, $0.52 isn't that bad. But it's more than I'm used to paying. I'm from KS and they have the turnpike that runs through Wichita and that would only cost me $0.25 in the city. I think it was only $5 to go across the whole state.
But I think $1/day (roundtrip) could be beneficial if you're constantly sitting in traffic
I wished it would have been open at least a few days or a week before tolling started though

I think it would be funnier if instead of "NC Quick Pass" it was called "The Toll Troll" and a logo something like.....

Sorry, but a toll is a toll, and a roll is a roll, and if we don't get no tolls, then we don't eat no rolls

Where is I-70 a toll road? I was talking about I-35 through Wichita. On my several trips to Colorado I would take 135 north to 70 and go west. I don't recall ever seeing a toll until outside of Denver.8/2/2012 12:47:16 AM |

i took it home from work, clocked time from I-40 to US 64 west. at speeds from 68-75 mph, it took 12 minutes. my overall time was about 15 minutes, where it's usually 23-28.
this morning, i took hwy 55 around 8-8:20. subjectively, it seemed smoother (ie no dumbasses trying to merge onto the 540 exit lane past mccrimmon pwky). from 540 to hwy seemed a little more congested (volume around kit creek rd hill)
it's mighty tempting to take home*, but i'm not paying for the privilege to get to work early.
*they need to get their shit together and finish the kelly rd overpass- darting across two lanes of 64 at a hill was a lil dicey 8/2/2012 9:29:13 AM |

I'm curious to know how you can be charged up to $5 for driving that short distance. Maybe that's the fee semis pay?8/2/2012 10:38:50 AM |

I-70 is now the Kansas Turnpike between Topeka and Kansas City. Sucks, but they know that everyone is just passing through, might as well collect some fees a la I-95 through new england8/2/2012 11:26:15 AM |

I took it from 147 to US-64. Once you factored in the traffic on US-64 to get over to where Trader Joe's is, it took me about the same amount of time to get home. So I guess it'll be my backup route when traffic on 40 is fubar. 8/3/2012 1:44:19 PM |

I've been using the new toll road since it's a company vehicle and I don't have to pay for it. If I had a stationary job and took that route everyday it would cost $12.04 a day round trip. Times 20 days a month $240.80 per month, or $2,889.60 a year. That's a lot for office people to pay.

^The worst part is there is talk of changing capital blvd to a freeway from Perry Creek Rd in Raleigh to Highway 98 in Wake Forest. There was talk of funding that with tolls, but they can't because NC law doesn't allow non-toll roads to be turned into toll roads. I'm guessing we're about to get a lot more toll roads in Raleigh. 10/3/2024 6:46:11 AM |
