2 soon

The deadspin article is probably right. I remember Total Recall being good but I'm probably mixing up my memories with The Running Man.

if you read the RT reviews though it seems that there really isn't anything wrong with the movie. sounds like a perfectly fine adrenaline laced sci-fi flick.

There really isn't anything wrong with a lot movies, but they still suck. The absence of bad does not equal good.

that deadspin review is fucking retarded, did the dude who wrote it think Total Recall was some hollywood masterpiece?

Did you actually read the article. The entire point of the article is the original Total Recall is not that good. Because of that, any nerd rage over a remake is ridiculous.

i read the article, and yeah it wasnt some cinematic masterpiece, but it was good for what it was, he is needlessly nitpicking it

and yeah, i'd never see the new one, looks like a crock of shit

Ah, the classic "You have more posts on TWW than me, therefore you are a loser" argument. I normally would expect such a statement from someone with less than 50 posts. When it comes from someone with more than 10k posts though it kind of loses it's meaning.

As sad as this is, I found this significantly more entertaining than Batman TDKR (aside from the ending).
It was exactly what I expected, kept a relative continuity of action, and didn't have any glaring plot-holes.

Just saw it tonight...the only thing really wrong with this movie is that we all have fond memories of the original, even though the original isnt all that great (and this one easily has better acting, effects, design, etc). Following that, however, the movie really doesnt do anything new: all of the major plot points from the original are here, its just in a different setting; nothing surprising happens at all. It would actually be a pretty solid movie if I didnt know how it was going to end from the beginning.

Also, I didn't like that the synthetics looked like Star Wars. They should've come up with something different there.

Saw both this and TDKR on our vacation last week. Obviously liked Batman more but I thought this was a serviceable remake.

I thought bundling Richter into the Lori character was the only stupid thing about it. Lori goes super-bitch-i'm-going-to-kill-the-shit-out-of-you for no discernible reason. At least in the original it made sense why Richter wanted to fucking kill Quaid so badly.

Also having not watched an episode of Breaking Bad (i know, I'll get to it) I can't shake "Malcom's Dad" off of Brian Cranston and seeing him as Vilos Cohaagen was a little silly.

I thought it was a pretty entertaining and good movie. Loved every minute of it. Sure a few plot holes came to mind, but what movie (especially one this complicated) doesn't have that?

Also I'm pretty sure that Kate Beckinsale is the finest creature on Earth.

I was entertained. But I wasn't paying close enough attention at the very beginning and didn't get through all the text as to why digging a tunnel through the middle of the earth was easier than just flying around it.

Anyway a few things that kind of bugged me (SPOILERS):

Why wasn't The Fall destroyed immediately by the colony as soon as they realized they were about to be invaded? I mean I realize they are probably less militarized than Britain, but don't they have enough weapons to take down a single skyscraper sized building? Or mining explosives? Something? It's not like they were defending the Maginot Line or the shores of Normandy here, it's one freaking entry point.

Speaking of which, why didn't the resistance destroy The Fall? It didn't seem to take much. And if they weren't the ones conducting the terror campaign, what the hell were they doing besides camping out in their little post-apocalyptic clubhouses?

Finally, when he went outside during the ascent after leaving the core, the Fall looked to be going about the speed of a decently fast train. But it would actually need to be going many thousands of miles per hour in order to make it to the other side of the world in the speed it goes.

SPOILERS

^Every point you raised were things I thought about towards the end of the movie as well, though mainly just your 2nd and 3rd points. I thought that if there was a tunnel through the core of the earth it would be in a vacuum to help the transport vehicle travel at the high speeds necessary for the trip. Clearly it wasn't a vacuum so I'm just left wondering, lol.

My wife brought up the "why didn't they just blow up the fall?" I think the answer is that the British Union already has a lot of military presence in the Colony and the Fall is well protected from that side.

Another thing, although this was less obvious IMO so is less annoying, was the way they did the gravity. They should actually experience weightlessness the entire first half of the trip, then 2 Gs on the 2nd half (but that's assuming it was in a vaccum which clearly it wasn't).

But again that was just a nerdy point that I can pick out of any movie so I won't complain too much about it. The other three were points that anyone who has any idea about the size of the planet or has ever watched a war movie/documentary could see.

I really like the original and I really hate Colin Farrel, so I'm refusing to watch this.

To me it's like Michael Cera remaking a Chuck Norris film to me.

^^If they made that a full-on comedy, I'd consider seeing that.
Then again, the crazy fighting in Scott Pilgrim vs the World wasn't too far off from some of Norris's previous work.

it was decent, but I still like the original better

I paid 1.50 for bluray at the redbox, it was only worth the 1.20 for dvd

watched this last night. the action and chase sequences felt so clunky. It was almost painful to watch. Bad jumps, slow running and obstacle scaling, and the bedroom fight scene looked like it was a first run through. Not sure if it was poor execution from the actors, or just poor shooting from the director. I'm thinking the latter since Farrell and Beckinsale are both action veterans.

but through all that it was a decent red box film. Definitely glad i passed when it was in theaters.

I was disappointed they didnt go into the "which world are we in" a little bit more. I thought they would have a big twist at the end, but it never came.

And Biel and Beckinsale are easily two of the finest human beings on the face of the earth. I would watch anything with them in it and enjoy it.

They did an unbelievable job on the scenery in this movie, the car chase especially. My eyes were darting back and forth everytime they would pan across the city scape. The artwork on the slums and commercial areas were fucking ridiculous. The story pissed me off though. Really run of the mill action flick that went too quick and left the story malnourished.
