I have only a cursory knowledge of his views. If he is like Ron Paul, then no. Too far out there. If he is like Ron Paul if Ron Paul decided to join us in the real world, then yes. Sounds like a winner.

Is it wrong to have no intentions of voting for Johnson but to tell pollsters you plan to just to help get him into the debates?

It's ridiculous the uphill battle he has just to get heard.

^^^ To be honest, I hadn't even given any thought to your username. I assess your politics to be somewhere between those of mine and destroyer's...probably closer to mine; maybe somewhat more of a middle or even left-libertarian, as opposed to me being somewhat more of a right-libertarian (and probably slightly more moderate, on the whole).

Gov. Johnson is, in my view, considerably more of a pragmatist than Ron Paul. I would say he is still a little out there beyond me on some things, but by (L) standards, as mainstream as could be possibly hoped for.

[Edited on June 13, 2012 at 6:56 PM. Reason : though he is speaking a little more to the moonbat contingent since pushing for the (L) ticket]

[Edited on June 13, 2012 at 6:56 PM. Reason : i wish he would chill out on the drug issue--it has become WAY too central in his campaign]

I'd rather vote for Gary Johnson than Turd #1 or Turd #2. I know one is white and one is part black... if you polish a turd, its still a turd.

I am voting for him, this is the closest I have come to agreeing with most of one person's policies. Also, much better suited for presidency than Ron Paul.

I thought this interview was pretty well done if you haven't already seen it:

Well, he's succeeded in one thing so far this election.

Making sure NM goes to Obama.

Maybe Nevada and Colorado, too.

As much of a disaster as Obama is, Romney being elected is worse. I'm fine with supporting Johnson and getting his name out there for 2016.

I am torn bc voting for Johnson will count as a win for Romney, but my one vote is not going to make that happen, and aren't we supposed to vote for the candidates we support, not the one we think will win? Shit isn't going to change if we keep the same players.

ideally.

well the reality is that we are going to have the same players for now, and in 2016, and probably 2020 and beyond...but if they are forced to cater to our demographic [which is growing, partly due to a generational shift) beyond lip-service at best, that's a meaningful win. For now and the foreseeable future, I'd be very happy with being the special interest du jour.

I think Johnson would pull voters from the Dems and the Reps in fairly equal numbers, honestly. Sure, lots of Libs have been in the Republican Party for decades, but his policies jive pretty well with liberals too.

Actually you might as well just jerk off into your own mouth because that's all you're doing by showing up at all to a vote you think doesn't matter.

If you show up to vote for your stupid pet candidate all you're doing is increasing the perceived legitimacy of that vote by upping voter turnout levels.

^I disagree. There's absolutely no reason for liberals to continue supporting the Democratic party, in my opinion. They've shifted so goddamn far to the right, that they've become pretty detestable. Until liberals start leaving the party, then the party will continue the drift. They're not going to change until they fear their own base.

A slow march toward fascism isn't any better than a rapid one, in my opinion.

Is voting for the lesser of two evils the correct way to go about things though? If the Republicans lost more elections, they would eventually be forced to shift to the left to gain more support. Not voting for Democrats will not all of a sudden create an extremely strong left-wing base of support. Plus, by doing this, incredibly bad policy would be introduced by Republicans. Ideological shifts are created generationally and the United States is a center-right nation at present. Bringing the Republicans back into a more sane view of reality is a better option than forming a new left-wing base.

Right, because letting the Tea Party take over this country is the desirable outcome.

It doesn't really matter though, if anyone but Mitt Romney is elected, we're going to have 4 more years of unprecedented obstructionism from Congress. Politicians are fucking ruthless and would rather this country go down in flames than give up a modicum of political weight to fix our country. If he does get elected I fucking hope the Dems give him and the presumable Republican majority the same shit that they've gotten the past 4 years. Giving in and being the better men doesn't count for anything any more.

In a world where he had half a chance, I'd vote for Gary Johnson in a heartbeat. I would have voted for him if I lived in NM when he was running for Governor.

I think he might have an outside shot. He's on the ballot in all 50 states, and the power of the internet is very strong. It levels the financial playing field more than anything in history. He only needs 15% polling to get into a debate as well. I'm positive more than 15% of Americans would at least like to see him on the same stage as Obama and Romney. If enough people like his message, he might stake a claim.

I'd say he has like an 80% chance to make the debates and a 10% chance of winning the election.

Oh geez, how can you not be embarrassed to repost shit like this?

Libertarians seem absolutely incapable of being honest in their attempts to convert people, here's the formula for every single libertarian pitch.

1. Get all the positions of the libertarian party that line up with goals of one or more major parties

2. Get all the positions of one or more major parties that are largely unpopular

3. Ignore all the positions of one or more major parties that are popular but aren't shared with the libertarians

4. Assemble these in the most loaded language possible

5. "SEE? YOU GUYS ARE ALL ACTUALLY JUST LIBERTARIANS IN DENIAL!"

edit: Lol the "special treatment for minorities" part is especially funny. The author forgot the "maintain white privilege while denying its existence" bullet point, but that wouldn't work so well because it would have to go in both the republican and libertarian lists.

I'm not saying that Romney would actually be worse, I'm saying that Romney being elected is worse than Obama being re-elected. My reasoning there is that both candidates are abysmal, but Obama can't get another term after this, so at least we would get another chance in 2016.

b. I want them to tell me they are giving it away to good people, and by people we mean AIG.

Hell yeah!

The thing is, I have little faith that our government is going to fix anything. I have zero faith that the Democrats will fix anything that is even tangentially a fiscal matter, and not a whole lot more for the GOP. In general, I'm most happy when nobody in Washington does much of anything--at least they aren't fucking anything up any worse. Sooner or later, we're gonna have to fix a lot of stuff, but that's just not even a possibility in the near future, so I'd rather just not aggravate the situation(s).

When I first read this, I was like, "Fuck no, that's stupid." Then I thought about it and reluctantly agrees with it. Which is sad, because there are so many things that need to be done.

There are so many things that need to not be done. The majority of our problems could be resolved by repealing legislation, not writing more of it. If politicians were capable of writing good legislation, they wouldn't just start doing it all of the sudden in 2012.

Unfortunately, I have just about zero expectation of anything ever being repealed. The political system just doesn't work. The systems builds and builds and builds and then collapses under its own weight. There will be no political revolution. There will no sudden epiphany on the part of the politicians and the people. There will be no understanding that, my god, individuals working for the government sold us out for their own gain.

So how does the Paul Ryan pick, a socially conservative DC insider for over a decade multi-millionaire, affect Gary Johnson's chances this fall? Not that Romney would have seriously considered him, but it's too bad Johnson couldn't have been the VP pick.
