Alejo oversees the S&C for the entire athletic department, and also serves as the head of S&C for the basketball team. This guy is the new head of S&C for the football team.

Yeah, i thought he was hired as the overall S&C director, as well as the head b-ball S&C coach, or something like that.

"According to sources close to the situation, former NC State standout Corey Edmond will be named new S&C coach for the Wolfpack football program.

Edmond, 42, was previously the associate director of athletics and director of performance enhancement at Arizona. He was hired by the Wildcats in 2004, and he was promoted to director of performance enhancement in early 2005, serving as the football program's chief strength and conditioning coach. He also worked with the UA men's and women's basketball teams, among others, during his tenure. He was named as associate AD in 2010.

Prior to being hired at Arizona he was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Oklahoma. He accepted the position at Oklahoma in 1999 after serving as the head strength and conditioning coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga from 1995-1999. He had been an assistant football coach with UTC, coaching defensive ends and linebackers from 1993 to 1995.

Edmond, who grew up in Sussex, Virginia and played high school ball at Sussex High School, earned his degree from NC State in 1993 after spending two seasons in the NFL with the Houston Oilers.

He played football at NC State under Dick Sheridan lining up for the Wolfpack from 1987-1990.

According to sources, Edmond will have complete control of the football team's strength and conditioning program and will be able to hire his own staff.

Pack Pride hopes to have more on Edmond in the near future so stay tuned! "

TIME TO BOAST BOAST BOAST

Quote :
"

24. NC State Wolfpack: After a 2-3 start, in which Wolfpack coach Tom O'Brien was criticized for turning quarterback Russell Wilson loose, NC State rallied to win six of its last eight games, including a 31-24 victory over Louisville in the Belk Bowl. Quarterback Mike Glennon ended up being a more-than-capable replacement for Wilson, throwing for 3,054 yards with 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He'll be without three of his top four receivers in 2012, with wideouts T.J. Graham and Jay Smith and tight end George Bryan each departing. Seven defensive starters are expected back, but the Pack will have to rebuild its defensive line and linebacker corps. The secondary should return intact, including ball-hawking cornerback David Amerson. NC State opens the '12 season against Tennessee in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game and also plays nonconference games against Connecticut (road) and FCS foes South Alabama (home) and The Citadel (home).

hope so. don't know though.

fwiw, from wikipedia:
Quote :
"The 2012 season will be South Alabama's final year in the transition phase to full Division I-FBS status. The Jaguars will begin to face Sun Belt Conference teams in 2012 in a full conference schedule but will not be eligible for the conference title race and post-season bowl games."

they'll apparently be a full sun belt member in 2013.

^^^,^^ Under 2012, it says transitional FCS classification. Wouldn't that mean they count like an FCS team? We'd only be able to use one of USA and the Citadel for bowl eligibilty, but that better not be an issue we need to worry about next year.

Mark Schlabach has us as preseason #24 . With a win against the Vols, we could be actually ranked.

^^ I didn't follow Tennessee much this year, but I would assume so. I bet Jaybee1200 would be the best person to tell us.

The Vols actually looked really good before Bray was injured. They easily handled Cincinnati who made us looked foolish. With him back, we'll be slight underdogs.

^^^They count towards bowl game eligibility.

In 2010, they didn't count for anyone.
2011, they counted for the FCS playoffs.
2012, they count for FBS.
2013, they can compete for a bowl game/etc themselves.

the Vols did put up 24 points on middle tennessee... in their last 8 games they averaged 11.5 points per game. including games against middle tennessee (1-7 sun belt), kentucky and and overtime game against vanderbilt.

But at the same time... that stretch included: Bama, LSU, arkansas, Georgia, and South Carolina.

They lost a few coordinators and their coach is on the hot seat. We should be favorites, but I'm not sure by how much.

The wording is certainly ambiguous, but considering they have to play at least 11 games against FBS teams, it seems they would count as an FBS team.

^^I guess I should have read the whole thing instead of just skimming it at work:

Quote :
"• South Alabama will not count as a Division I game for future opponents on their schedule until the 2011 season for NCAA Division I-AA (Football Championship
Subdivision) schools and ’12 for I-A/FBS schools due to a moratorium set by the NCAA. Thus, it is possible that USA may offer the same or more scholarships as
a potential opponent in 2010 and ’11 but not count as a victory toward bowl game or playoff eligibility those years"

Edit: Wait, that still only says they count as D-I. It could still be FCS. Does someone have another source?

By the wording on the document, I think our game vs USA last year would not have counted towards bowl eligibility even if we had played FIU (etc) instead of Liberty. Since we played Liberty, they were our 1 allowable win vs an FCS team to count towards the bowl. This coming year, USA will count towards a team's bowl eligibility, but as an FCS team. Since we play The Citadel, we have 2 FCS teams on our schedule next year.

^I agree with this, based on the wording of the document. Other people think they'll count as an FBS team though. It'd be nice to see source with a more definitive answer.

"3. NC State is on the rise again. For the second straight season, NC State finished with a bowl win and with higher expectations heading into the offseason. The Pack finished the 2010 season in similar fashion, with a bowl win against West Virginia (um, yeah, that team Clemson lost to?) and ranked in the top 25 of the Associated Press Top 25. This year they beat Louisville and finished on a hot streak heading into the offseason again. If NC State can stay healthy, it could be a surprise team in the ACC race. "

Tenuta Now official

http://www.gopack.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/011112aac.html

Quote :
"Raleigh, N.C. - NC State head football coach Tom O'Brien has announced that Jon Tenuta, who has served as the Wolfpack's linebacker coach since 2010, has been promoted to Associate Head Coach for Defense.

"Jon has played a key role in our team's success for the past two years, including our back-to-back bowl victories," said O'Brien. "He adds an enormous amount of experience and expertise to our staff and we are happy that he has accepted these new responsibilities as we work toward our goal of winning an ACC Championship."

Tenuta, who has spent 16 of his 31 years in coaching as a defensive coordinator at seven different schools, will also receive a contract extension, which will run through May 31, 2014. "
