Pretty cool article about cost of living during the Mad Men era
http://www.cnbc.com/id/46848844

Quote :
"Since “Mad Men” began, in 2007, it has been suggested over and over that the series’s appeal lies in the sublimated wishes of an upper-middle-class audience that longs for the kind of erotic abandonment and barfly afternoons that have all but vanished in a culture enraptured by third-grade soccer games and antioxidants."

The girl's name is Dolores.

That has got to be foreshadowing Lane getting into some funky shit this season.

^^ yeah. It's not against the rules to criticize an awesome show every now and then. Not every episode can win an Emmy.

Such a sophisticated viewer. Because every other Mad Men is only here for the "action."

^^well what im saying is that why does something blockbuster have to happen?

i dont see anything wrong with a pedestrian episode, but its obvious that people that didnt like the episode were somehow expecting immediate, fairly profound plot developments. Can you deny that? no im not thinking people want to see a gunfight on a fucking runaway train or anything

im the last person to call myself sophisticated about anything...youre just hurling masked non-specific insults way to go

^i looked it up and its from some song by sophia lauren or something and it means "o that kiss" or something loosely translated

anyways, thats why shows dont last anymore, we have no attention span and if something major with the plot doesnt happen each episode the ADD nation gets bored and turns the TV off...in my opinion. I felt like i stopped into the office after being gone a few months on a normal day seein what was up with everybody...i like that personally

I agree with you.

Also good article on the song: http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2012/03/25/mad_men_season_5_premiere_why_did_don_s_wife_megan_sing_that_french_song_.html?wpisrc=obnetwork

Others will weigh in I'm sure, but she's always been very childish (and child-like), shallow, selfish, and very used to being taken care of. She's insecure and Don's infidelity has not helped with that, but from what I remember from other seasons her mother (I think?) contributed to a lot of that.
Her harpy-like qualities have just gotten worse and worse, and now she's unhappy because she has not been able to find perfection even with Mr. Francis.

I can, personally. There were just a lot of parts that dragged. Maybe that's because combining two episodes into one just made it feel that way, I dunno. But I was checking stuff on my phone during a lot of the party scenes because it was boring me and I never do that during Mad Men. The slow pacing and dialogue usually ends up somewhere but I didn't feel like that was happening with the party scenes at all. So Don doesn't like parties. We didn't need a whole episode built around that.

BigHitSunday,

I rag on Betty, but I really don't think she is a bitch. She is just angry. A lot has been taken away from her. Her marriage, her father. And she doesn't have anyone to lean on.

I think you will sympathize with her more if you watch Season 1. In particular, check out Episode 13. It's the season finale. And even though it features Don's famous "Wheel/Carousel" pitch, I think my favorite scene from that episode (maybe the whole season) is a moment between Betty and Glenn.

All I'm saying is it's okay to not be blown away by an episode of Mad Men. And it has nothing to do with a lack of "profound plot developments." Mad Men is still one of the best shows on TV, I'm not here to trash it like Walking Dead. Season premieres are usually weaker than the end of a season anyways so I'm not worried about it.

I don't know that anybody is arguing that Mad Men is beyond reproach, I just thought it was a good episode and probably one of the funnier outings to date.

i love Mad Men and always will...

however...after seeing Jon Hamm in Bridesmaids, it will never "quite" be the same to me again

i really hope Pete Campbell gets gang raped at some point...

and the only thing that keeps Lane Pryce from being a complete creep ball is that he's British...haha

this quote describes him perfectly..."He’s such a funny mix of propriety and perviness."

for me it proved that the amount of weight you have makes a different in the level of your attractiveness. I don't think that any of that was really fat suit.

it looks liked fat suit and a little make up but you can tell by the wrists she defintiely still was pregnant or had babyweight They might have had to even out the "fat" distribution so that it didnt look like pregnancy

it seems like with each episode of megan i am becoming more and more of a fan, im actually dreading when don does her bad because I see that he is severely underestimating her as a person in my opinion and it seems inevitable that he is going to fuck her over

yeah, the last 10 minutes were great. the dream, Joan dumping Greg, Peggy and Dawn, etc. i'm thankful it was a dream, because Don killing a woman would've just been too much drama. wonder if the entire encounter with her was a dream, or just the part where she came back in and found him in bed?

im relieved that he seems to actually like Megan

I was so disappointed when it appeared that he had sex with the chick. I ws strongly convinced that her return was a dream but i was sure when they banged it had actually happened

and im so glad AMC started showing the series again with episode 1, 2,and 3 of the first season so i can get the backstories. they come on 6-9am on sunday

Joan Holloway is a boss

^it was all a dream, because megan (who was lookin gorgeous in that scene btw) said she had come straight home
