Honestly I am waiting to see how the ACC responds to the upcoming UNC sanctions. Swofford is hopelessly biased and you can bet your bottom dollar he won't be advocating stricter sanctions like was the case with Clemson (Swoff orchestrated an additional year of sanctions for Clemson).
Funnily enough his argument was:
"the now-ACC Commissioner stated, essentially, that the ACC was a hallowed collection of academic institutions that shouldn’t be sullied by the rule-breaking of one member institution interested only in winning. Therefore, Swofford continued, all should agree that what the NCAA handed down simply was not severe enough." Sounds familiar doesn't it?
FYI the NCAA levied 2 year bowl and TV ban and the ACC added 1 additional for extra benefits and recruiting violations.

the only reason I mentioned the SEC is because that is the conference I've heard most people talk about.

also the only reason you mentioned the SEC is b/c it's the only conference that comes anywhere close to being worth leaving for.

what are we going to do, get mad and join the big east? throw money away and doom ourselves to being irrelevant just to make a point?

Again, if you guys aren't trolling, why do you keep replying to this thread? There are plenty of people that were able to comment about the topic without trying to suck their own dick or be a complete toolbag. I'm not advocating for State to leave the conference. I don't think it would be good for us in football at all. Basketball, on the other hand, I'm not sure about. I also never thought the ACC would expand to bring in a team from Pennsylvania. I know the topic seems ridiculous but there are plenty of people starting to talk about this regardless of how likely it is.

If by relevant, you mean second tier behind VT, clemson and fsu, then yes we can be relevant.

(I'm perfectly fine with that, btw)

I'm sure fans of Ole Miss and Mississippi State can cite dozens of examples on how they've been held down by the powers that be in the SEC.....

We don't stand a chance at ever being a top 4 program in ACC basketball. Why are we still here? We'll consistently struggle to be in the top 7 once pitt and cuse are added.

where else would we go? if we went to the SEC, we'd struggle behind kentucky, vanderbilt and florida.

^^^wtf has Pitt ever won? they haven't been to a Final Four in over 70 years

we might not be a top-2 team in the ACC

of course with our recruiting class next year, if Barnes, Zeller and Henson go pro, we could finish 2nd next year

Vanderbilt and Florida? Really? They are teams like us that benefit from being in the SEC. The ACC has two kentuckys going on three and going on having 4 Floridas.

we are talking about basketball, right? not sure what extra "help" being in the SEC would provide. we recruit well enough. and vandy already beat us this year.

Football programs that are currently better than NCSU:

Auburn
Alabama
Georgia
LSU
Arkansas
South Carolina
Florida

Football programs that are equal or worse than NCSU:

aTm
Miss State
Tennessee
Kentucky
Ole Miss
Vanderbilt

This "we would get blown out and lose every game" shit is just as pussy as leaving the ACC

^haha yeah i hear that, but we're a top-half of the ACC program this year, hopefully we're "only" losing CJW since he's our only senior, and we have at least 3 McD's AAs coming in next year...our biggest problem this year is depth, which we should improve on next year...and if UNC loses their top 3 players to the NBA, they're bound to at least take a small step backwards for a year...it could happen...especially since theres no official timeline of when Cuse and Pitt join

I think our undersized front court is another huge concern. I am sick of any halfway decent center scoring over Howell with ease. Hopefully Vandy can help both those issues next year...

our frontcourt will be better just because hopefully 2 plumlees, a zeller, and a henson are gone. but then duke will get the younger plumlee off the bench, and probably amile.. and henson will come back.. fuck.

this thread sucks.

one of the reasons our undersized frontcourt is a concern, is depth...we basically have CJL, Howell and Painter...Howell will invariably get into foul trouble...Painter is good to spell him...but getting Vandy back will help with just another big body...and when does that Bojanglsky dude come in, 2 years from now?

The problem with Howell is without help he can be scored over pretty easily. Basically if you don't have ready to help for a block all a center has to do is back him down and throw up a shot. There is no way Howell can contest it without fouling.

and even if he doesnt foul, he gets called for a foul

Don't get me wrong. I think Howell is awesome but it is sometimes hard to ignore that he is a PF being forced to bang with some legitimate centers this year. Hopefully next year he develops more of a face up game because he could be playing more of a traditional PF role next year (especially if Leslie goes).

I don't understand the people who claim the SEC wouldn't want us.

It looks like we would improve the states they would be broadcasting in and therefore bring in more money for them. Am I wrong here?

yeah lets jump to the Big East so we can compete to be a top-3 football team for 1 or 2 years while our conference continues to dissolve

Who would you put at center to put Howell at PF? Vandenberg?

optimally Painter, height wise...but Howell is more polished...and plus that would push CJL to the 3 and either bench Brown/CJW/Wood which we don't really want

the UNC game wasn't nearly as bad as the Duke game in terms of bad calls but there were definitely a good percentage of them

the Howell steal/foul from Zeller comes to mind

[Edited on February 22, 2012 at 9:52 AM. Reason : I swear the refs target him. ]

[Edited on February 22, 2012 at 9:53 AM. Reason : i know they watch tape but it just seems like they pick who they are going to call fouls on ]

The old Damon Thornton ACC ref guide thing should be modified for Howell since it's pretty much the same thing.
