i mean i get that the coliseum sucks, but it looks really lame when the a's are playing great baseball and they sell out a friday game because there's fucking star wars fireworks and then the entire upper deck is empty the next night

avoided the sweep at DET.

really need to start winning more games, but matchups against pitchers like sherzer and verlander are tough.

Hopefully Bret Anderson can make a comeback before too long?

solid win today, but I hope this means they'll be playing like this from now on

won't be able to beat yankees and rangers if we play like we did during the first two games of that series

looking forward to tomorrow

yeah, given remaining schedules across the AL contenders - the A's really do draw the shorest stick. BAL and NYY get to beat up on BOS and TOR, while we duke it out with TEX and LAA.

Unless a miracle happens and we can take the ALWest, I think our best hope is to win the WC2 and try to beat BAL at camden in one friggin game... I just don't see any way the A's win the WC1 unless BAL tanks to vastly weaker competition

Realistically I think we can take 4/7 from Texas, 1/3 from NYY, and 3/3 from Seattle. That would put us at 93 wins. Sadly, even that might not still be enough.

Our only hope for the division is that Texas continues to drop games against LA

yeah, tell me about it

it's always difficult to feel 'good' about a loss, but you can't say they didn't play well. Parker was terrific

Quote :
""We went very quickly from thinking, 'What are we going to do with all these starters?' to 'OK, we're down to five,'" said Oakland assistant GM David Forst.

If the A's make the playoffs and Anderson is unable to return, they could become the first team in history to start exclusively rookies for the entire postseason. As it stands, Milone made the 80th start by an Oakland rookie Tuesday night in Texas. That blows away the previous rookie record of 69 starts set by the 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers.

O's pretty much have WC1 locked up with their easy remaining SOS.
TB has to hope CWS continues to tank, but they have a pretty tough SOS.

A's have got a looong way to go before WC2 feels safe.
according to ESPN, "america needs to see mike trout and LAA in the playoffs"

Honestly, the best hope we have is that TEX throws games to us and beats LAA for us. You know they would rather see the A's in the playoffs than LAA....

I think that's pretty pessimistic to be honest

If they continue playing like they did last night, I think they'll win the division.

Texas is GOOD, but they aren't THAT GOOD. We win today, and they drop a game or two to LAA (which is pretty likely given the way both teams have been playing), and I see no reason why we don't have the momentum to sweep them at home.

Of course, with our luck. We'd sweep Texas and drop some to the Mariners

Unless something drastic happens, it looks like Texas will win the West.
Mathematically though, as long as we go 3-3, the WC2 is ours...

<fingers crossed/>

If LAA had beaten SEA last night the heat would be ON. Given that we both play SEA and TEX 3 times each, I agree with you on going .500 to snag the WC2. But couldn't TB still sweep their remaining games and force a playoff?

theoretically yes,

but if they sweep Baltimore, i think it would actually help us, since we hold tie-breakers over BAL, TB and LAA, so it would be a game at home if it came down to that though. If we go 4-2 it's not really an issue though and all of this doesn't matter

Not saying going 3-3 against the Rangers/Mariners is a given, but out of all the possible WC teams, BAL/OAK seems like the most likely scenario.

I'm not really afraid of Baltimore or Texas tbh, if we get into a 5 series game, I think the sky's the limit

Annnnnd the A's sweep!

Texas losing 2 straight to LAA- while currently losing 4-0- makes this a perfect scenario. If the Rangers lose today, the A's need 2/3 at home to win the West. If the Rangers end up beating LAA, a sweep is needed for the division. This is so exciting!

Pretty sure if Texas loses to the Angels and the A's take 2 of 3 they will be tied with the Rangers and have a one game playoff for the West crown. Glad to see more late inning magic from the A's today.

well LAA lost, so we're still 2 games behind

If we sweep, the crown is ours. If we take 2/3, I'm not quite sure what happens. Tie breaker in Texas?

ive been pulling for the A's all along, but now I need the Rangers to get best record in the AL and the O's to win the East so that the Tigers can play the O's in a 5 game series and let either the A's or Yanks battle it out with the Rangers for the other spot in the ALCS

I feel bad for saying this, but if the A's end up getting the WC, I hope the O's lose. I'd much rather play them than the Yankees.

I'd say it's been nail biting baseball since the beginning of September. If they win tonight, I will be going absolutely ballistic tomorrow.

Insane how they can either sweep and win the West, or get left playing a play-in game to be WC2. THREE GAMES...

lets say
A's go 2-1 vs TEX
O's go 1-2 vs. TB
NYY sweeps
....
we would tie BAL for the WC1.

where would home field be for the playoff game?
