I don't think it will make up that much. I am not surprised this bombed, the source material is a century old and I wasn't compelled to see it from the trailers. Rough loss for Disney though, as they really thought this could be a mega hit (advertising fucking everywhere).

Wow, everyone keeps calling this a massive flop, but it appears it's already made > $263 million and is still going...most of international obviously as it only got $800k this weekend domestically.

remember, theaters keep roughly half of what is being reported and the movie cost a total of 350,000,000 (production + advertising).

It hasn't madea dime yet. 263/2 = 131,500,000. 131.5 - 350 = -218.5.

^^ good find. Some of it was as expected (making a movie 3d allows them to jack the prices up and make more money), but I didn't expect some of the stuff. For ex., that they got such a small cut of overseas proceeds.

disagree, this movie was fun and entertaining ... I too didn't know who the fuck "john carter" was so I didn't pay it any attention, watched it last night and am now annoyed I never knew..


Disney fucked up the marketing, the movie itself was just fine. Not gone with the wind, but a good action movie with some pretty big actors, and good enough acting to bridge the gap between action scenes.
