Living here for a year already, I can vouch for all of this. I would love to get the hell out of here and go back to the Raleigh area, but in my line of work it's hard to find immediate openings. But I can say its MILES better than living in Oklahoma (where I was before Columbia) or Kansas.

It's going to be hard for them to do much better. There aren't a lot of positives to being the basketball coach at VT other than season football tickets.

Their facilities are awful, Blacksburg is in the middle of nowhere and their fans don't give two shits about the program. They will end up with some assistant who will get fired on five or six years.

(Don't even mention Shaka Smart for this job, there's a better chance that Bill Belichek coaches Elon football than Smart downgrading to VT)

they always had one of the weakest OOC schedules. if there was anything to be learned after Gottfried's first season, it's that scheduling a difficult OOC schedule pays off

just because he was the loudest complainer every season doesn't mean they were deserving

yeah if you know that you missed the tourney because your OOC schedule was weak, then you do the same thing the next year and miss the tourney again, you have no one to blame but yourself. then you lose your job soon after.

Yeah, VT went the Clemson route of: weak OOC every year, go 14-1 or 13-2, national media talks you up, get nationally ranked maybe, then ACC season rolls around and you go 6-10 or 7-9
