If Calvin stays hot, CJW plays his best game, Alex johnson continues to hit 3s, Zo continues to be a monster, Wood shoots 60% from 3, Howell doesnt get in foul trouble, Painter discovers his jump shot, and we hit all our free throws, I think we can beat anybody and win it all.

Are we going to have our home games in reynolds or PNC? I loved the marist game in reynolds and we should try to recreate that atmosphere.

I give it 50/50 we're in the play in. Didn't Clemson have to go through one once upon a time?

^^^Our best game is enough to compete with most teams in the country, but let's be realistic. We played inspired ball yesterday but still lost to Carolina without Henson.

With fair officials we win that game by 10+

Henson was out but he is their defensive anchor. Leslie went off on his replacement but Leslie actually had a BETTER game against Henson. I don't see Henson making that big of a difference in that game as the refs did.

Howell and Leslie basically missed half of the game between the two of them from foul trouble. Williams missed at least 10 minutes from foul trouble. All of those extra minutes for painter cost us about 10 points indirectly.

If you add the 10 points officials caused us directly to the 10 points they cost us indirectly then we would have won by18 points. I know the game isn't played in a vacuum but that was the most slanted officiating ever in an NC State game. Usually the worst games have about 2 or3 bad calls go the other way.

That's part of the "inspiring" - we didn't fold after losing Leslie. Henson (particularly when you couple him with Zeller) is the game changer for them. We don't get nearly as many rebounds or drives with him in the game.

Edit - I know we're improving but we were obliterated by them in Chapel Hill, played leagues better and still lost big at home, and THE REFS WILL NEVER LET US WIN ETC. I wish our starting five could stay in the game for 40 minutes; foul trouble is part of the game and is magnified by our pathetic bench. Aside from their starters, Carolina usually receives one or more big contributions from random bench bitch N. This is also the primary reason we would lose to Syracuse 9 times out of 10; they have the best depth in the country.

RPI isnt NEARLY close to being the only thing you should look at.

SOS yes, but they have stated numerous times that RPI alone doesnt mean much.

And we will NOT be in a play-in game.

thats not remotely close to what the definition of last 4 in is.

The selection committees last four in play 65-68 in the play-in games. ESPN's last four in won't be the same as the committees but if it is, then yes, we will be in a play-in game.

Last four in play two of the first four games

How is that not remotely close?

Except that the last 4 in in espns definition is the last 4 at large teams so they are basically the same exact thing

so ESPN now knows exactly what the committee will do? it;s a projection of what ESPN thinks is the last 4 teams in, not of what the committee actually says are the last 4 in. Who the fuck knows, the committee could already have decided that we're in, and we're a 3 seed. ESPN is saying, though, that we just made it in with our play. there's a diff, dude

We all know that what the committee does is not what any of these projections are. If you look at the resumes though to think its not likely that we are in a play in game is just foolish especially if st bonaventure wins. Sure it's possible we are the fifth to last team in but not likely.

I would think S Bon getting in would push us out of a play in maye? Or help at least. Am I reading that situation wrong?

No. St bona would be an auto qualifier who couldn't play in the non-16 seed first four games

[Edited on March 11, 2012 at 2:05 PM. Reason : Clarification, originally didn't specify non16 seed]

the only way St Bon is getting in is if they win. Do they put conference champs in the non-16 play-in games?

I wasn't aware that auto qualifiers couldn't play in the first four. I always sort of thought that everyone calls them play in games but they aren't literally play in games.

Sorry I meant only the non16 seed playin games.

From the official NCAA rules for selection / seeding process

Quote :
"The last four at-large teams selected to the field, as well as teams seeded 65 through 68, will be paired to compete in first-round games on Tuesday and Wednesday following the announcement of the field."

Officially the NCAA calls it the first round. But they're not fooling anybody. They're play-in games

Agreed which is why I hope we win it if we get in. I think for the experience I'd take a NIT run over a loss in a play in game. I know it counts as making the tourney but not really in most peoples minds.
