^ I think it's clear from your comments that you don't understand how competitive individuals truly feel.
While this is a business and money matters, the idea that a player like Mario would PREFER a team that isn't going to the playoffs is laughable. There are those individuals like Haynesworth who do the job for a paycheck, but Williams isn't even CLOSE to being like that.
When you spend all of your life working at something, you want to win. Losing fucking sucks. Everything about it sucks. You do what you do because you want to win. I wish you could be inside the head of that type of competitor for just a few moments, because it's a completely different mentality.
Any team that is willing to spend $100 million on him shows they want to do the things needed to win. All your other comments notwithstanding, this really does show you don't understand the mentality of a true competitor. Or maybe that you just think Mario isn't that type of individual. 3/15/2012 2:06:23 PM |

If I'm Debbie Yow, I'm asking Mario if he wants to help our football team land an indoor practice facility. We can even name it after him ... the Super Mario Dome3/15/2012 4:57:37 PM |

Mario talks about why he chose the Bills, video on front page of http://www.buffalonews.com/
As a country boy from eastern NC, I really don't think Mario is going to hate it there. With global warming in full swing, Buffalo winters really aren't what they used to be (srsly folks), although he'd still be better off to leave his orange lambo in NC outside of the summer months.
Dave Wannstedt is a hell of a defensive coordinator to get teamed up with.
How epic would a Chargers-Bills playoff matchup be?
This past year the Sabres got new ownership and the team finally starting spending the amount of money needed to contend, and while it hasn't paid off for them this year, it put some serious pressure on the Bills to get real about making big deals too. This deal and the deal for Stevie Johnson should at least put the league on notice that the Bills are sick of being decade-long doormats.

^^ Buffalo is still cold as shit. I spend about 1/2 my winter in Cleveland which regularly gets 12" inches of snow within 24 hours and Ive heard Buffalo is much worse. 3/15/2012 7:00:30 PM |

^^^^^ I intentionally didn't make the comment about me, but yeah, I know something about the mentality of competitiveness. More importantly, I know about the mindset of winning, and what it takes to be successful. As an athlete when I was younger, it's what I did. As a coach, it was my job to be inside the heads of my players, and understand how they functioned. I also take that mentality in my professional life.
And in my current field, I know what it takes to win, and the difference between success and failure, and the mentality of winners. I'm not going to list a detailed resume, because, again, that's not the point of this, but if you'd like more details, I'll be happy to send it to you in a PM if that will somehow show that I more qualified to make a determination about the mentality of winning and competition.
I do think it is reasonable in a sense to be skeptical...I mean, why should my perception of a competitive mentality be any different than anyone else's? This is the internet, where anyone can say anything, without any knowledge or background.
The point of the whole thing is that I think it's absurd to think Mario took the position with the idea that he would get a month or two off because of no playoffs. An individual like him does not work out over the summer for months, go through a month of training camp and preseason, and then a four plus month season to cash it in and lose in the end and sit on his couch. 3/15/2012 7:18:22 PM |

Lots of professional athletes don't care about winning. Lots of professional athletes barely care about they sport they play. It just happens to be the best way for them to earn the most money in the shortest amount of time. Just because its your dream job doesn't mean its theirs. 3/15/2012 7:53:47 PM |

if Mario has a mediocre season (5 sacks), he'll pass HOF'ers Warren Sapp, Andre Tippett, and Charles Haley on the all-time sack list
if he has a good season (10 sacks), he'll move into the top-25 all time
if he somehow manages to play another 5 healthy seasons, and averages 8 sacks per season, he'll finish his career top-10, and will be a lock first-ballot HOF'er
