Not pathetic enough to actually get upset over a thread on the wolf web when someone disagrees with me.

It is the internet buddy, just take a deep breath, it will all be ok

Just noticed one of my favorite races is coming up in Charlotte this week:

http://www.usmcmudrun.org/ - They are extremely well organized (have apparently been doing this for much longer than mud runs have been popular), have great obstacles, and capable of handling tons of people

Also I'm anxiously waiting to find out dates for this one:

I love the USMC Mud Run! But I haven't done one since 2011 It's in South Carolina, not Charlotte though. And that ridiculous race looks fun as hell.

It is the length of the Tough Mudder course that scares me more than the obstacles. I suuuuuck at distance running. On one hand I think signing up for one would help me finally get over whatever it is that makes me so awful at it. Either that or I'd still suck and I'd drag the team down, which is probably more likely.

I did my first tough mudder last weekend.... I had fun. I did better on some obstacles than I thought I would (Mt. Everest.... Warped Wall), but WAAAY worse on others b/c I'm apparently not as coordinated as I thought I was. The 10.5 miles wasn't too bad either... but I had to walk b/c my GF was out of shape...

I know this is what sparked the annoying chit chat in the thread but I wanted to post a link to the article that talks about the injuries and the death from last week's tough mudder that was mentioned on the last page

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/24/avishek-sengupta-tough-mudder_n_3144759.html

Quote :
"Ten people had hypothermia, orthopedic injuries or head injuries. And two people were treated for drowning, including Avishek Sengupta, a 28-year-old Ellicott City man who died Sunday."

Quote :
"City Hospital took in a total of 20 patients from Tough Mudder on Saturday and Sunday, so many that regular trauma patients had to be sent to other area hospitals at one point Saturday. One person admitted to City Hospital on Sunday after suffering electrical shocks was not discharged until Tuesday"

It's also important to note that Sengupta's death is the first in the race's 3 year history.

Have fun doing what you're doing! Be safe and I'll be cheering for you from home!

I did the Spartan Race in Charlotte about a month ago, and will never do another obstacle race again for sure.

Despite being miserable for the most part, I also saw some dudes almost die when a huge truck tire came flying down the hill and barely missed them. I think it would have seriously injured or killed them had it hit them.

There is a video of it on youtube.

Also, I broke two fingers and had a terrible rash for two weeks after my run. Shit sucked.

it's pretty horrific It also has a video of a guy completing the walk the plank challenge around the same time as the death
