Do you still feel like it is unwilling to rev? 5/2/2012 12:55:25 PM |
Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
I mean it's pretty responsive and powerful, no denying that. The engine is sweet but it's a bit unpolished and sounds terrible -especially from outside the car. It's still a very willing package, I wouldn't dismiss how capable it is. The coil overs/bushings really wake it up. I have fun in it, I'm not going to lie... That said, it's just more satisfying to drive the 911. The M3 is far more poised though, way more stable. They're rather different. 5/2/2012 3:46:52 PM |

It’s a solid car. Reliable as well. I drove mine for 3 years. Eventually just got bored with it and wanted something different. They have rasp eliminators. You seem to be the perfect customer for one if you don’t care for exhaust note. I also preferred E36 growl over E46 whine. E39 was just the boss of all! 5/2/2012 5:01:43 PM |

Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
What is this rasp eliminator you speak of?
I like e39s but they're getting a bit dated and I've heard too many horror stories about their reliability so I've passed... I need to take pics of the e46 then I'll advertise it. I am going to sell both and move to a turbo. I put a new trans (and clutch) in the 996 as well and yes it's on the road and is already advertised for sale! I don't care which sells first honestly, but I hate having two cars when I want to buy yet another, so one of them better sell soon! 5/2/2012 10:03:16 PM |

Not mentioned in the ad are the GT3 splitter/side skirts/shifter and the extra wheels.
The rasp pipe is awesome but I'm not spending almost $600 on removing sound (though I would if I was in love w/everything else). It SHOULD sound beautiful and I can almost taste what it's supposed to sound like, but it's never quite there... I'll never make fun of Audi tuning their exhausts for sound again! 5/3/2012 1:17:03 AM |

The garage dude w/the turbo? I'm not sure I get why that's significant... These things aren't that expensive anymore (I'm sure many here have more expensive vehicles) and a C6 Z06 easily outpaces a stock one.
I could possibly end up w/a GT2 but I doubt it. Whatever I buy would have to be a good deal. 5/3/2012 12:54:33 PM |

Dude, I didn't drop my superfly, didn't crash it, nothin'. I was chatting w/a guy at the 6 hour race @lake crabtree, at like lap 4 or 5, his pedal hit my rear chainstay and put a crack in it. That's OK I guess I've been wanting a new bike w/a tapered steerer tube...
Anyway, when are you coming to Raleigh man, let's bike! I'm riding Matt's Jabberworcky at the moment. 5/4/2012 10:34:07 AM |

Yea yea, it's not bad but the 911 still sounds better, and has better steering, certainly better brakes. Feels like the M3 has more grip though. :/ 5/7/2012 12:42:17 AM |

umm.... does it have better tires? 5/7/2012 8:12:06 AM |
BigT716 All American 3458 Posts user info edit post |
Eh. It's awfully big don't you think? I mean sure it has more grip, but that's just because of the AM coils. I don't know how I would feel about driving around a car with front gills if I were you. Especially one that had a functional back seat. It might as well have 2 extra doors. You can't even really call it a sports car at this point. 5/7/2012 8:31:47 AM |
Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
They're on comparable tires but the M3 is lowered quite a bit, has coil overs and solid bushings.
Despite it's grip levels, I do think it's too big. I don't like big cars. I'm only friends with small people, they fit in the backseat of the 911 (sideways). 5/7/2012 9:02:38 AM |

Driving an Audi for 3 months would make anyone forgive a lot about an M3... And I mean really, the silent bike rack, the huge trunk, the inconspicuous looks and the subdued handling can be nice when I don't feel naughty. And when I do, oversteer is available in a way that it's not on a sub 350hp modern 911. Yeah, sure I like the car OK. It's a nice change of pace.
Also, come to Raleigh, let's bike! 5/7/2012 11:16:31 AM |

I'm 5'11" 205lb and I fit fine in back of E46 M3. It's no 7-series, but it's fine. It is actually bigger with more headroom than E92. 5/7/2012 1:23:58 PM |
Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
There's not really a back seat in the 911. It's technically there, but I use it as a shelf w/the seatbacks folded down. I've put people back there many times, but it's like putting somebody in a trunk and not a seat. 5/7/2012 1:37:55 PM |

Nonono, you see German cars have accurate oil pressure gauges. Even the E46 has proper working warning signals. This thing has digital display between max and min marks between the speedometer and tach. 5/12/2012 9:16:54 AM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
Oil pressure gauges usually don't show low oil till the pump cavitates and with some cars you are toast by the time that happens. 5/12/2012 10:01:17 AM |

Um, hello? Why don't we have more pictures of this car and it's own thread? I'm pretty sure it's currently one of the (I'd say top 3?) awesomest cars in the garage, so yeah get on that.
Congrats dear sir, M-azing active M diff. color co///Mbo. MPower!1 I do think the e90 is one of the highlights of the brand (whereas the current M5/M6, X5M and other atrocities are... not).
In other news, I haven't driven my M since I put the Porsche back together. But dang it I will! I moved it today to change the oil on the 911 and thought to myself, you know, I ought to drive this thing some. 5/12/2012 4:04:08 PM |
