Actually, that $61 is for the iCP1 not the iCP2. So, if you want the version with the keyboard it ends up being $81 or $87 if you want a box and cable and the holder for your phone. I have an iCP1 that I bought last year for close to $100 and I think I've used it maybe 2-3 times at best. I definitely regret purchasing it.9/15/2012 6:12:32 PM |

Very cool project from a Grad School colleague of mine. He's been working on this for the past 3-4 years and is SOOO close to making it happen 9/27/2012 11:55:10 AM |

^Looks like a wonderful idea, but I wonder if the yield can be high enough to support rent of a 50x50 lot in an urban environment. Anyhow, they seem to be very close to getting the funding. I am interested enough to pitch some money towards the prototype. 9/27/2012 4:42:07 PM |

No way they can afford to put that in any urban lots. They also don't seem to have done a code review for their design. 9/27/2012 6:08:26 PM |
Igor All American 6672 Posts user info edit post |
If the urban lot is in Manhattan, probably not. But if it is in Richmond or Cleveland, it may be possible. Hydroponics can give a much better yield than conventional farming, and gourmet mushrooms bring in a lot of money (assuming they will be shipping those to a region larger than the neighbourhood served by the store). The only way to see for surwe what the yield will be is to build a prototype and give it a go, which is what this Kickstarter is for.
I assume the code review is not necessary for the prototype as final design of each individual Farmery will have to be tweaked based on the code of municipality it will be serving.
Anyhow, 8 hrs to go, anyone elase wants to see this happen? If so, help your fellow alumni and pitch in!

yeah, this idea has a much better chance in large sprawling cities that have a lot of suburban properties that's still inside a city limit. I wouldn't doubt such an idea would be a hit in the EU as well. 9/28/2012 4:33:46 PM |

Goal reached with 3 hours to go! Although I suspect that someone involved in the project ponied up from their own money towards the end as not to loose the pledge, because it jumped 3 grand to just $76 over goal within last 10 donations or so Could be a friend/relative as well I guess. Or 10 very concerned outsiders. Either way, it will be cool to see this prototype completed! 9/28/2012 5:14:43 PM |

^It may have been an angel supporter or something. But I know I spent several hours yesterday exhausting my networks (tdub included) making sure this got the exposure it deserved to get over the top And apparently so did a LOT of other people!
Makes me feel good to kickstart something that isn't a video game or electronic gadget too.

^^ Madoff separated people from a few billion dollars of their money.
People putting money up to fund something doesn't mean it's a good idea. (This and Cheetahmen II come to mind)
However many good ideas do get huge backing on Kickstarter (Most of the linked kickstarters in this thread)

I'm just going to say I disagree, I think this is a huge idea, and it's been a buzz around our office (a bunch of designers) and while this particular product may not succeed, the idea is a good one and would be extremely popular. From the videos it looks like it actually would work just fine. 2/21/2013 6:20:56 PM |

So let me get this straight, when those buckyball magnets were banned, adults all over the US started crying their eyes out. But somehow playing with this collection of magnets means you are in elementary school?
Pen Stylus Compass 12 powerful MAGNETS
All in the shape and size of a pen? Yeah, I like it. If you think it is immature, good for you.
[Edited on September 20, 2013 at 5:28 PM. Reason : Who doesn't like playing with magnets? How do magnets work? It is magic!] 9/20/2013 5:27:16 PM |
Igor All American 6672 Posts user info edit post |
Pen and stylus combos already exist, and most don't require disassembling the damn thing to go from one to the other.
I don't remember last time I needed a compass in the office or in fact anywhere else. IF i ever needed one, there is one already built into my phone, which I am more likely to carry.
I like my magnets inside my speakers and as far away from my wallet as possible.
Any adults crying about buckyballs must have had developmental disabilities, hence the crying.
Obviously, there are at least 1,472 other people that think these pens are worth 15 dollars. But then there are people who think there are watches worth thousands. There are people who like bacon on their ice cream. And there are some people who like to dress up in mascot costumes and circlejerk. Don't get left out. 9/20/2013 7:58:06 PM |

I heard that this video game (which got funded) was shopped around to several publishers, all of whom wanted the main character to be a man, even though it was part 4 of a franchise in which both the protagonist and the arch-nemesis were women: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero 9/26/2013 2:44:06 AM |
