Anyone tried an antenna amplifier such as this:
http://www.amazon.com/Mohu-Jolt-HDTV-Antenna-Amplifier/dp/B00AW48DS0/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
I'm getting decent reception with my Mohu...but CBS breaks up pretty bad (for some reason, its worst on football Saturdays/Sundays). I can pull the antenna out and set it up in broad view and it gets a better signal, but I'm trying to keep my entertainment center "clean" looking (no wires and all that jazz). Thinking that my signal would get a good boost with this amplifier and then I could put it back behind the TV again. 11/11/2013 2:41:19 PM |

I wonder if they increase the bitrate during games? That could cause it.11/11/2013 2:58:22 PM |

Probably right...which is annoying. I'm diggin the Mohu and the money it saves me every month not having my Directv bill...I just wish I could watch a clean football game on a major network. I'm in a pretty big city, so it shouldn't be an issue. Hoping this amplifier is the solution. 11/11/2013 3:37:49 PM |

I'm also curious about the amp. I have a Mohu and I get CBS/FOX fine, except like you said, Sundays are the worst.
In addition, I don't get ABC or NBC. I'm in downtown Raleigh in a condo w/ the windows pointed west. Not the best for reception of anything, but if this amp got me ABC/NBC or at the very least made CBS/FOX no longer an issue, I'd bite. 11/18/2013 5:52:09 PM |

Jury is still out. First, it did add four new channels...I just don't think I know or care which ones they are.
Normally my Mohu picks up 10 channels and it picked up 14 with the new amp. However, sometimes my Mohu only picks up 9...and the 10th dropped channel is usually CBS. So it definitely helps with that.
CBS is now crystal clear. I use to have trouble with CBS on Saturdays (but not Sundays for some reason...fucking weird). Fox, however...struggled a bit for me on Sunday. I will say that it was still watchable (sometimes I just can't deal all of the lapses in connection), but I was a little annoyed that it wasn't crystal clear.
I'm going to give it another weekend or two and maybe move the Mohu behind the TV and see what it does there (it's behind desk right now). 11/19/2013 1:31:11 PM |

I literally have to put my mohu in the middle of the floor, usually stood up by a picture frame or something. I just get awful reception. The only thing crystal i get all the time are the .2's from CBS/FOX and CW.
In the middle of the floor I get fairly solid CBS/FOX. I'm hoping this would at least shore those up so the antenna doesn't have to be out in the open and if it gives me ABC/NBC that would be the tits. 11/21/2013 11:07:29 AM |

What's the consensus on the best antenna to get so that you don't have to move it every time you change the channel? 12/6/2013 4:44:59 PM |

I may have to give the Jolt a try - I already get pretty bitchin' reception with the standard Mohu, but what the hell 12/6/2013 5:44:56 PM |

I built one of those coathanger antennas a while back. It was ok, not spectacular. 12/8/2013 12:02:02 PM |

Anyone else tried this? I've got a TV in my kitchen and one that I am putting in my guest bedroom that I'd like to be able to be able to pick up the locals on. The TV in the kitchen currently mirrors the TV in my living room (DirecTV), but I'd like the option to watch something different in there without springing for another DirecTV box. If these antennas work, it would be a perfect option.

^ follow up to this
I built one yesterday and it works awesome. It only took me about 15 minutes to build. I get 38 channels. Interestingly enough, I get both Greensboro and Danville VA locals. I'm about 10 miles from Greensboro and 50 miles from Danville. 12/10/2013 9:18:23 AM |

Maybe it is Roanoke and they were just doing a commercial in Danville. I'll check again when I get home 12/10/2013 9:59:10 AM |

The station is actually WGSR out of Reidsville NC, which makes a little more sense. Covers the Piedmont and southern VA. 12/10/2013 4:19:26 PM |

I was considering building that and giving it a shot, but was unsure the last connector he attached and what it was. Assuming something you get from Radio Shack? 12/10/2013 4:21:25 PM |

^ It's a UHF/VHF Matching Transformer. This is the one I got at Radio Shack.

You can probably find them a lot cheaper though. I have several friends that want me to build them one, so I'll probably start researching tonight.
A quick search online shows that you can get them for as low as $.32 on Amazon. I was excited to try it so I bought one at Radio Shack, moving forward I'll buy them online.
As an aside, that video definitely over complicates the process. You can save yourself a ton of time if you use unpainted hangers. Plus, the measurements don't need to be nearly as precise as he illustrates in the video. Once you understand the basic concept, you can pretty much eyeball it.

Mohu leaf on amazon for $35 ATM. (I THINK that's cheaper than I've ever seen it). Mine has worked amazingly over the past few years.
