Loved it.

If you want the cliche formula gadget wielding smug robo fucking Bond then rent anything before CR.
I did not see any of the trailers or anything. Just went in blind and one thing I was not, was bored.

I hate that I kept up with the production as much as I did because I was waiting for scenes to end just to see the next one, still really enjoyed it though. Really need to see it again.

To me, the Pierce Brosnan era of Bond films is analogous to the Schumacher era of Batman films.

Not to hate on this movie but there were a few things about it that bugged me. I think it was an OK bond film but it could have been much better.

******SPOILERS*******

How the fuck did he survive the initial shot to the chest with sniper rifle, fall 100ft into a river and sink to the bottom scene?

How the fuck did he survive the finale scene where he swims underwater for 3min fighting a guy in icy water. 99.9% of people would be dead. This James Bond is rivaling Mike Meyers for survive-abililty in this movie.

The scene where he just pulls out his knife and cuts a bullet out of this fucking arm.

The scene were he sneaks up on the sniper with a gun in his hand. Waits for the sniper to assassinate some one then fights him with hand to hand combat??? what the fuck James your supposed to be smart. Shoot him in the fucking knees or something. God Damn stupid writers.

Why if your sneaking away from the enemy in a secret tunnel do you pop out the other end and immediately start waving around a flashlight in a huge field?

Why if did James just drop kick Jaws and not kill him in the finale? Poor writing in my opinion.

Overall the finale was really weak. In most Bond movies the finale fight scene is interesting and involves all kinds of special stunts and unbeleiveable badass shit. This was some weak home alone shit, hide in a house out in the middle of knowwhere, whogivesafuck.

The movie peaked when they introduced Jaws. His intro monologue as pretty badass but after that it was kinda lame.

************* End Spoilers *****************

Honestly, I think the latest Mission Impossible and Borne movies both out James Bond this James Bond movie.

I really enjoyed it. Will probably see it again a second time next week.

SPOILER

One gripe of mine is that I felt the plot was too similar to The Dark Knight, in that the villain wanted to be caught and put in a jail near the HQ of the police/MI6. Made it a little unpredictable. Though they never explained how Silver managed to kill both of his guards bare handed and escaped.

I enjoyed it a lot as well, but it did have a lot of "just go with it" moments.

SPOILERS

The villain's plan was needlessly complicated. He blows up a bunch of stuff and steals a list of names to get M in trouble. Ok, I'm on board. But why the complicated "get caught and escape" plot? After the initial chaos, she was always going to end up in the courthouse scene. How about you don't get caught and just confront her there. Maybe it was about the prior confrontation then? But we already saw that a 00 trained agent could sneak into M's house when Bond did it, so how about doing it then?
Yeah, yeah. Its just an action movie, but if you are trying to tell me he's a super genius, make me believe it.

On the topic of smart people doing stupid things, any one else just start shaking their heads as soon as Q hooked the baddie's laptop to the MI6 network?

it was needlessly complicated in a retarded way. its not like hes trying to knock off fort knox and he has to come up with a way to get rid of the guards and break into a bigass vault.

his entire goal is to personally kill one old british lady. one who's homes are frequently broken into with ease by bond, who has the same skill set as the villain.

he spent all this time coming up with a scheme to disguise himself as a police officer and instead of just flying to london, getting the uniform, walking into the court room, and then killing M he has to get captured first? why? it doesnt make any sense. It seemed like they did a whole bunch of dumb crap just to cram in some bad techno-jargon about him hacking MI6, which ultimately didnt matter.

the plot was fucking stupid. there were some decent action scenes and the look of the film was great, but there were way way too many useless slow parts. They spent alot of time showing off the cool looking sets and locations at the expense of the rest of the film.

also the stupid fucking thing with the girl turning out to be moneypenny at the end was so forced and bad and pointless.

Overall i'd give it a C. Its a movie thats not a bond movie but relies on you thinking that it is a bond movie to hope you overlook the flaws in the plot and pacing. But atleast it looked nice.

I didn't think that was a sniper rifle. Especially in comparison to what the sniper was using later in the film.

I saw that as a means to gather intelligence on who he was working for. It went to hand to hand cause the guy saw his reflection.

I shook my head at this in the movie...

Quote :
"that the villain wanted to be caught and put in a jail near the HQ of the police/MI6."

I think I missed part of this scene, but did he WANT to get caught? Or did he just have a plan B for the contingency if he got caught?

I liked Q, although he seemed like he was very green in the movie and overly arrogant. But perhaps this is all the standards of the prequel that shows how he falls and isn't quite full of himself in the future.

The home alone bit was...something....

I was expecting him to just waltz in with a gunship at the end and take out the house though. The lengths villains will go to get personal revenge...

i loved the Moneypenny tie in. I thought it was great. Forced, sure, but so was Mallory as the new M. Now had Daniel Craig just so happen to wear a hat at the end of the film and toss it on the coat rack, then I would have screamed foul. But I have zero problems with this at all.

The Moneypenny thing could have been worse. This could have been a Batman movie where a character is revealed to have the name "Robin" at the end of the movie.

I thought this one was great. If you expect action sequences to be believable, you shouldn't be watching a Bond movie. I thought the Moneypenny bit jumbled the Bond chronology. Can someone set the record straight - if it's something like CR, QoS, Dr. No through Die Another Day in order of release...where does Skyfall fit in?

yeah if you're looking for realism in a Bond then you dont know what Bond is. it's over the top grand scale shit. Now I admit this Bond (Criag) is a little grounded in reality than the other Bond films. slightly. I mean I dont expect to see invisible cars and rocket launching skis, and midget villains in this new Bond era.

I didnt think there was a chronology to the Bond films. I considered this all a reboot anyway and now they are doing their own thing.

Technically Craig's Bond is a reboot of the series from Connery-Brosnan, but I look at it as CR-QoS-SF-DN.....With the ending of Skyfall setting up the beginning of Dr. No. A lot of things don't make sense (like Dench's M, Moneypenny, the Goldfinger DB5 appearing in Skyfall, etc.), but that's the easiest way for it to make even a little bit of sense in my mind. It's never like Bond has been big on continuity anyway, I mean from the begininning there was stuff like Blofeld having no idea who Bond was in OHMSS after having file photos of him in FRWL and seeing him face to face in YOLT.

Movie was good but not as good as expected given all of the review. It had a very Bourne meets Dark Knight feel to it.

I like Bardem a lot - the tooth speech had a nice darker side that some of the older Bonds didnt have, so I felt that was a nice touch to keep pace with some of the current movies out there but at the same time, the whole old vs. new fight at the end felt like some Home Alone skit.

Correct. I understand that but for what ever reason those two scenes that I mentioned bothered me quite a bit. I didn't have a problem with the intro action sequence, that all seemed like normal action sequence type stuff.

*********************Spoilers ***************************************

I don't get all the hype in this movie. The finale was boring. I wanted to see super over the top jet packs, rocket launchers, laser beams and shit in the end. Not a helicopter shooting up a old house and Bond shooting the villain in the back for a lame kill. At least we should have gotten a fist fight were Silva beats the living shit out Bond, you know because Bond is an old washed up fuck who can't do pull up or shoot the broad side of a barn now. God, Bond used to be such a bad ass, he is the biggest pussy in this movie.

yeah, you are on my list of people to pay zero attention to.

I saw this flick as setting up the Connery series.

There will certainly be more Bonds with Craig. But if no Bond films were ever made again, Skyfall is set up for Dr. No to follow.

Its low key, dramatic but still unrealistic. I wanted more of the action like in the intro. Maybe I should go watch old Bond movies.

Not trolling. Its just I disagree with the majority on this one apparently. I was really surprised to see 90%+ ratings on rotten tomatoes after i watched the movie. I expected it to be in the 60-75% range. I don't think it is a bad movie. But I don't think it deserves all the hype its getting as the "Best Bond Film Ever".

Got back from it. I for one loved it. I was entertained. To the people complaining about the "lame" killing at the end, what exactly were you expecting? Daniel Craig as Bond is all about the action being grounded in gritty reality (even if it's still over-the-top). Go watch a Roger Moore film if you want jetpacks and lazers and shit.

So I guess this is Judi Dench's way of saying she's done with the Bond series?

You've never been put in a headlock or a sleeper hold playing around as kids? It's more than air flow, there's two giant ass arteries in your neck too.....you can render someone unconscious in under 30 seconds if you cut off blood flow to the brain, and if Bond made the guy pass out underwater, the body would drown itself trying to breathe subconsciously.

^No. Bond is an orphan. Both of his parents died in a climbing accident when he was very young. MI6 likes to recruit young orphans because no one will miss them and (I assume) they're easier to train and indoctrinate.

Admittedly, I thought the "motherly M" thing was kind of weird. Judi Dench's M never came off to me as being motherly, least of all to Bond. She wouldn't simply send agents off to their deaths for nothing, but she understood the line of work they're in and had no compunction about sacrificing her agents if it meant results.
