I think it covered the book throughly. I never looked up the song references in the book

Loved this movie.

The only thing I thought was stupid was how they ostracized Charlie for saying Sam was the most beautiful girl in the room, especially how Sam would do that. Kind of a lame plot device that led into him having to beat up the gay haters to get let back in the group.

I mean he essentially cheats on his girlfriend while she's watching with her best friend. they also mention that there's a past with said girl losing guys interest because Sam is prettier/cooler and he's supposed to be such a nice guy, it's a slap in the face. also, it's not just that he beats up the haters but because that girl has, in that time period, moved on to a "college guy" that's so much "more sophisticated".

^^I agree, it did follow the book well.
