Would you trade RvP to Madrid for Higuain + cash?

How much cash? Key point.

You know what, never mind. I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Is Twitter saying that's in the works?

Can you imagine Dzagoev at Spurs? If only they could get Vertonghen and Gylfi...

They linked by rumor even to Dzagoev??

AVB is a good choice and I'd bet on Moutinho, Vertonghen and Sigurdsson in with Modric out (obv Corluka and Adebayor already out).

Still think Top 4 will be tough not because Spurs have regressed but the other sides have gotten more better.

I hope Ribs isn't angry with me

if you're already assuming Modric's out, I think you should also assume RVP is out, in which case Arsenal did not improve their squad overall

Different situations obviously but in reading it appears Sahin is blocking the move so I guess I'm being presumptuous. I'd be surprised if RvP isn't back though. I've been wrong before..

Modric will end up at either Madrid or PSG by the end of the summer, I'm thinking.

Man U looking at Joao Moutinho for ~£25M (contract buyout is £32M)
Liverpool looking to snatch Demba Ba for £7M (buyout clause)
Ganso is refusing to resign with Santos which makes a move to Europe seem possible.

AVB official.

I think it's a good choice. He will be determined not to be defined by his Chelsea time.

Should expect to see the Modric saga start to move in to high gear now. Really interested if AVB can spin Modric's £ into Moutinho..

Levy is instituting a very interesting power structure at spurs. Sherwood is going to be the director of football operations, whatever that means. But that will he a significant role. Avb will have a much easier time than he did at chelsea

They won't get big money for a player with one year left on his deal.

It'd be better to keep him and improve the squad even more to win a trophy to convince him to stay after next season. Basically it's now or never for RVP and Arsenal.

The statement he released makes keeping him around to play out his last year a lot less likely I think.

sell him, and buy a world-class center-back and a world-class Makalele-ish defensive midfielder. Arsenal continue to spend money on pacey, slippery attackers while leaving their defense mediocre and unreliable.

maybe this is simplistic, but I really don't understand why Arsenal continue to splurge money on attacker after attacker while leaving their back lines soft. for me, this is the root of their decline.

so there ain't too many players like Claude Makalele around...but somebody roughly in the mold of Gareth Barry, say, although a bit more defensive-minded. a solid holding midfielder who can be trusted to make tackles, plug gaps and take defensive responsibility.

oh wait, it's the last year of his contract so they ain't gonna get shit for him. (took a few minutes for this info to process.)

Take what you can get for RvP and put it towards M'vila. While there is only one year left on his contract, the good thing is there will be no lack of interest for him and every club in the world will want him on their squad.

Also, wow, Guti at West Ham next season?

Enjoy City. Hope you don't miss out on the CL because of FFP.

Not sure who is going to want to come to Emirates at this point but the £60m or so they should have to reinvest needs to be spent. M'Vila, some defensive cover and a top forward (who am I kidding.. It'll be a Bendtner extension).

Usmanov wrote a letter to the Arsenal board and "accidentally" let it leak today. Basically saying the current financial policy sucks and RvP leaving is just further proof of this. It's all over Twitter and from what I can tell most Arsenal fans want him on the board now. He says he isn't going to pump any of his billions into the club like Sheikh Mansour but I think by having him on the board that would be the hope.

No they don't. Most Arsenal fans from what I've seen agree with a lot of what he said but still think he's a slime ball and don't want him having any part in the running of the club.

He becomes more attractive with each passing day, though...

Still can't believe SAF didn't start the best two way right winger in the world against Man City. It's akin to Ronaldo or Messi not playing a SuperClasico to determine La Liga..

just to play the devil's advocate here...

I'm not totally sure what you mean by "two way right winger" (it seems kinda self-contradictory) but Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are both considerably better wingers than Ji Sung Park

and if you require them to be ambidextrous, could-be-called-upon-to-play-on-either-side wingers, they are probably both better than Ji Sung Park at that, too (since they both play so as to cross with their weak feet, anyhow)

for the record you guys never did present a better RW than Tony V except for - arguably - Robben and maybe di Maria.

You just pish-poshed the idea but never backed it up with facts or statistics... you just made a big fuss to distract from the reality that you don't have an answer. That being said, Tony V just got united's #7 for a reason, and it ain't because he's a joke of a RW.

If you can't name at least 5 players in the world who are better than any given player at their main position, then i think you can safely assert that the player is world class. Any chump can be like "oh so-and-so is better 'when he plays there'" but if he doesn't sit at the top of the manager's team sheet at that position, then it doesn't matter. You could then plonk down a Ronaldo or a Messi at any position and be "OH HE'S THE BEST LEFT BACK / CENTER MID / TREQUARTISTA IN THE WORLD!!!1" and look like an absolute twat.

[Edited on July 7, 2012 at 9:39 PM. Reason : there wasnt a better RW in the EPL last year, fact. ]

I'm hoping they can sign a striker this window. Maybe put in another bid for Leandro Damiao.

In 2008/9 when Wayne Rooney got stuck out on the left wing, you wouldn't have dared called him a "natural LW", so get off it.

There are players like Rooney, Ronaldo, Hulk, Messi, and others who can play anywhere across the front 3 and they are not considered "wingers," but instead "strikers."

JT already defeated your point in the previous discussion:

Quote :
"hulk and sanchez are forwards. you cannot sit here and tell me they consistently track back and help in defense"

you carry on grasping at straws, though, it's cute

JT didn't defeat shit because tracking back defensively or not tracking back defensively isn't the thing that makes you a winger or not a winger. Fucking stupid argument.

You and JT are both saying if you score goals, you're not a winger but a striker. And it's dumb.
