^^Seriously.Move Galaxy to the current Harris Teeter location.Win, win. [Edited on June 29, 2012 at 4:53 PM. Reason : Re: So what happens to the HT around the corner from Galaxy if this happens?]

It closes when the new one opens. No clue what would happen to the building--it's probably owned by the mall so I guess they'd decide if it could be a large freestanding tenant (a la the Crate and Barrel at Southpoint), subdivided, or razed. Perhaps it could become another grocery with a small footprint, like a Trader Joe's or an Aldi.

11/8/2012 5:50:37 PM
I went to see The Master today. I was all excited, commenting how I was glad it was still showing as showtimes hadn't worked out that I could before now, and he responds, "I'm glad for you too cause it's a great movie, and we're closing Sunday." "whaaaaaat!? nooooo" Very sad they aren't able to stick it out til Spring.
11/8/2012 6:37:49 PM
Mortal Kombat 2Austin Powers 1Y Tu Mama TambienThe PianistSpellboundThese are but a few of the movies I saw in this building. What was it called before Galaxy? Imperial 6 or something?
11/8/2012 7:00:20 PM
Damn this sucks. Loved how everything was local. I know all my Indian friends in the area will be really disappointed too.Welcome to Obama's America
11/8/2012 8:02:34 PM
^^ Prior to Galaxy it was Madstone. Before that was Imperial 6, and before that Imperial 4.
11/8/2012 11:11:49 PM
do they still show The Walking Dead on Sunday nights? Any chance they'll be doing it their last Sunday?
11/9/2012 6:27:34 PM
It's kind of funny how people come out of the wood work to save something when the end is near. Perhaps if all of you people had cared this much over the years this place could pay its bills. Move over. GTFOOTW and let a business that can thrive make use of this space.

This type of theater should be closer to ncsu anyhow, but even then, our own cinema at Witherspoon already appeals to independent and documentary films for students; who'd most likely see this kinda stuff.

11/10/2012 12:06:25 AM
Downtown independent movie theater. Do want.
11/10/2012 12:29:10 AM
^^ that's cause we already have witherspoon... Students going to cary to see some documentary or foreign film is a bit out of the way for that demographic; even then, it should really be centered more towards Raleigh area rather than Cary.Or the very least show more profitable films to help fund the independent showings more.and Downtown Raleigh isn't exactly that far away from NCSU...

ITT spöokyjon proves to be a hipster.
11/10/2012 10:26:03 AM
thanks to spöokyjon for hiring me working at Galaxy Cinema for 4 years was a life saverthere were a lot of cool people there, both selling and buying ticketsthe death of any cultural landmark is a loss for the community as a whole
11/10/2012 3:28:43 PM
90% of the population that go to our independent movie theater in Charleston are old people. Very few student aged customers.
11/10/2012 4:05:29 PM
Witherspoon is not competition for Galaxy. It wasn't competition for Studio I & II on Hillsborough.
11/10/2012 5:53:02 PM
yeah, what are all the independent, foreign, and documentaries that are being shown at Witherspoon? I never thought of the Galaxy and Witherspoon as competition when I was a student, nor do I now.http://www.ncsu.edu/cinema/

i never went to the Rialto or the Colony much, but they seemed to skew older, tooi'm in Portland now and their independent theaters attract more youthful audiences
11/10/2012 9:29:40 PM
i would've guessed portland skewed more towards the 30-40 crowd, what with the dream of the 90s being alive there and all
11/11/2012 2:22:29 AM
fair and kinda accurate assumption, but 30s is still youthful compared to the senior citizen dominated Raleigh art housesthere seems to be a larger film going scene here in generalthere's more theaters that show indie, foreign and classic films the Portland Art Museum screens movies daily in conjunction with a local film school; lot of seniors there, but they show some really cool stuff. they just had a music series and played Wild Style and Downtown 81 and some cool recording of a Stax Records revue performance from the late 60s somewhere in Scandinavia.has anyone mentioned Galaxy's popcorn yet?
11/11/2012 4:31:24 AM
I saw The Man Who Wasn't There at the Rialto my senior year in high school. I might've been trying to outthink myself on that one.
11/11/2012 8:31:06 AM
I will miss Galaxy's popcorn

BTW, the lady in the video game to Galaxy 2-3 times a week for as long as it's been open. It's really sad to leave those folks without a theater. Also, while I try not to talk about how I would have done things differently since I left, I ran that shit for seven years and we never ONCE showed a Twilight film. JUSSSAYIN'.UPDATE: I have just been informed that they put that poster out for the last night as a joke and had no idea the news mentioned it ]

Anyone know how they intend to liquidate their assets? I wouldn't mind picking up some memorabilia for my home theatre.
11/16/2012 12:04:57 PM
When I worked at Park Place 16 like 10 years ago there was a Matt Gronke working there. I remember he jumped through a large cardboard advertisement thing on my first day and the manager kinda chuckled....this has the be the same guy...edit: to be clear he destroyed the damn thing. It was awesome.[Edited on November 16, 2012 at 10:57 PM. Reason : ]
