Lincoln was my favorite president before he was cool.

i haven't watched the trailer, but if this movie doesn't portray him as the war criminal he was, then i'm boycotting it.

^Don't watch the trailer then. Looks like the entire focus is how Lincoln freed slaves, nothing else.

The movie is based on the book A Team of Rivals and focuses on the part of Lincoln's decision over the Emancipation Proclamation.

There is a shot though where he's talking about his power as president, so yea, they may cover some of it. Still the only president that I know of that suspended the Writ of Habeas Corpus.

If you want action, go see Expendables 2 at the $2 theater. This will be about as boring as There Will Be Blood.

Clearly if I think Lincoln looks boring I only watch mindless action films.

Probably won't be boring as much as overly sentimental.

Too effeminate of a portrayal with that voice. Give me Bill the Butcher.

currently at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes (and the 9%ers have admitted they were just trolling)

also kind of crazy that this and Skyfall both open this weekend

Will I feel like a piece of shit for being a white Southerner while I watch this? My psyche is fragile enough after the election.

This is getting limited release today. Does anyone know if there are any theaters in Raleigh that will be showing it?

based on the trailer, this movie has as much historical relevancy as Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

it was great! I really enjoyed every moment-- I had no idea how long it was until I got back in to the car. The sound effects were amazing btw, I read somewhere that the guy who did the sound effects tracked down a lot of historic artifacts-- Lincoln's pocket watch, carriage (he was able to record the sound of the carriage doors opening and closing) and he found churches in DC that still have their original bells, so he could record the sounds of bells that Lincoln would have actually heard

I thought it was well made. some parts dragged. I feel like Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in all my damn movies lately. He's reaching Mark Walberg(sp?) level.

I dont know how the hell they got things done back then. Getting a topic, calling each other names, pointy elbows, strong undermining persuasions and just voting.

Day Lewis did the damn thing. Sally Fields was a DIME PIECE compared to real Mary Todd Lincoln.

kinda upset about them not showing the assassination but whatever. Ill live.

Thought it was boring. The opening scene with the soldiers reciting the Gettysburg Address was so horribly acted, I'm not sure why it made it to the final cut.

This most definitely was the wrong way to start the movie off. Especially because that speech was not well received at the time due to its brevity and being succinct. The other thing about the movie is that I felt that it focused entirely too much on the conflict of abiding by the constitution versus using your power and influence to change the constitution. In a way, the film seemed as a ploy to echo out our current struggles and issues with politics. It would have been nice to include a story of black people fighting for their freedom, as opposed to politicians doing all of the dirty work.

Lincoln played much more of a minor role than I would have thought, and I didn't really like DDL's delivery even if it was authentic. There were very few strong and emotional scenes. He just meandered about like somebody's grandpa after scotch time.

The whole movie just rank of current politics as opposed to portraying interesting historical insights as to the civil war culture and era.

well, I have calmed down a little bit. I guess that since the movie is about passing the amendment that it would make some logical sense that they would not touch on slavery, but I am still not buying it. It is not like they have to go into Nat Turner's rebellion but, some culture of the time would have been appropriate.

Ya there should have been a scene with Lincoln fighting vampires that would have been awesome.
