Just finished a money league draft picking #2 overall (12 team snake, 0.5 PPR, passing TDs 4 pts):

QB: Philip Rivers
RB: Arian Foster
RB: Trent Richardson
WR: Roddy White
WR: Dez Bryant
TE: Greg Olsen
W/R/T: Steve Johnson
K: (didn't draft one since still have a couple of weeks to see if any injuries occur)
DEF: Bills

Bench RBs: Doug Martin, Cedric Benson, Kevin Smith, LeGarrette Blount (handcuff)
Bench WRs: Mike Williams (TB), Denarius Moore, Randall Cobb
Bench QB: Jake Locker

I'm pretty satisfied with that outcome. Loved that Foster slipped to me in the first round, though I would have been satisfied with Rice. Kind of wish I got another TE, but I feel like Olsen will be pretty solid this year. Got Kevin Smith in the 13th round, I think that is pretty solid for a starting RB (at least for the first few weeks). Kind of reached for Williams in the 9th, but I feel like he will be much better this year as he should see more single coverage.

nice... little weak at WR with Bryant's injury, loaded at RB assuming Richardson is healthy and Martin starts...

if someone values Smith a lot you could bundle Smith and a bench WR for a better WR

Need advice on a possible trade.

I have been offered NYG D for BUF D and B Wells for I Redman. I already have Ryan Williams on my roster. I'm leaning towards doing it because I like NYG defensive line a lot.

I really like the Bills D a lot, especially since they have to play the Dolphins & Jets twice. They also play the Browns, Chiefs, Cardinals, Colts, Jaguars, Rams (and Titans, Seahawks, & Texans if you aren't convinced of their potential this year). As far as Wells for Redman, I would probably do it, depending on who your other RBs are. A handcuff for a rookie isn't a bad decision (I got Blout when I drafted Doug Martin), and Redman I believe is kind of hurt. Couple that with Dwyer looking good & Mendenhall actually practicing, I wouldn't want to take my chances on Redman.

Jesus god people, stop drafing 3rd QBs and backup TEs and Defenses. Especially the defenses.

What, are you worried you won't be able to pick up the Falcons D on waivers?

The goal this year is to get 3-4 quality receivers because its so deep.

Then you want as many RB's as possible because there are like 60 guys who could be good or bad. You want as many as possible so you have a greater chance of getting a good one.

If you use a shallow bench you probably don't even want a backup QB. Let alone a backup TE or D.

In most leagues I don't even draft a kicker, the roster spot is too valuable right now to waste.

its pretty dumb to waste the 10 points a week you'd get from picking a kicker in the last round just to have a 6th wideout on your bench every week

I'm not going into week 1 without a kicker.

Just dumb to waste a spot on one right now when you could have an extra RB.

I have James Starks on a team i drafted last weekend. I can cut him comfortably now after his injury for a kicker because i have 7 RB on that team.

If no one gets hurt I'll try to make a 2 for 1 deal on a team.

What if Rashad Jennings becomes the starter in Jax because MJD gets traded and you picked Mason Crosby over him?

Just found out I got the 6th pick (out of 12) in my $$$ league draft Saturday night. It is 6 pts for pass TD's, and I know for a fact Brady, Brees, and Rodgers will go in the top 5. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see Stafford or Newton go in the Top 5 as well. I just know the people who are in the Top 5 picks, and they will go QB in my opinion.

So my question is, at 6 do I go:

1)With whichever of the Big 3 running backs are left? (and hope I can get either Romo, Vick, Manning (either) or Rivers on the turn or in round 3.

2) Reach for either Stafford or Newton at 6?

3) Take Calvin Johnson at 6?

thoughts?

I had a draft last night that I wasn't able to participate in, but I was actually fairly happy with my Autodraft Results. I think it's the first time that I've felt an Autodraft team was actually worth something.

QB Philip Rivers
RB Chris Johnson
RB Darren McFadden
WR Larry Fitzgerald
WR Victor Cruz
TE Brandon Pettigrew
FLEX C.J. Spiller, Buf RB
D/ST Lions D/ST D/ST
K Sebastian Janikowski

Bench Tony Romo, Dal QB
Bench Ben Tate, Hou RB
Bench Nate Washington, Ten WR
Bench Brent Celek, Phi TE
Bench LaMichael James, SF RB
Bench Russell Wilson, Sea QB
Bench T.J. Graham, Buf WR

I added RW and Graham after the draft of course as hopefuls.

Quote :
"The best part about participating in a fantasy football auction is that anything goes, and you're never a victim of unfortunate, random draft order or someone else choosing a player you really want the pick before you. Don't get me wrong, drafts are awesome as well, but for anyone that has had that year in which they seemed to pick last in all their drafts can attest, it stinks never getting a shot at Aaron Rodgers, Arian Foster or Calvin Johnson.

In an auction league you can, in theory, get all three of those fellows on the same squad, though it doesn't come recommended. Certainly you can get two of them, though, which doesn't happen in a draft league without a trade. The point is, there are more options in an auction format for you to build your team your way, and our goal in this blog entry is to strategize a few different options to build teams.

Let's assume a standard ESPN lineup and $200 budget, and point out three types of teams below, explaining the virtues and potential drawbacks. We'll use ESPN's published auction values as a guide, so whether you think a player is worth $10 more or $10 less isn't a factor. We have to start somewhere, but for any of us that have been in an auction are aware, with some players you do pay more, with others you might pay less, and often timing is everything. In the end, there are myriad ways to construct the final product. My advice is to go in with a plan but be willing to adjust it on the fly, numerous times if needed, and spend all your money. Oh, and have fun.

Team 1: Stars and scrubs

The problem with an all-or-nothing team is what happens when one of the guys you'd call an "all" player gives you nothing. It happens way too often, like with the unfortunate Jamaal Charles injury last season, and that's why it's dangerous practice to load up on stars yet leave yourself with so little depth that you're not even properly prepared for bye weeks.

Then again, who wouldn't want to secure multiple players that would, in general, be viewed as safe first-round draft picks? There's inherent advantage there because owning the potential best at two positions can carry a team. This team to the right has that, at least on paper, but it also lacks a usable bench devoid of much upside, and a few starters come with question marks. For example, last season Michael Vick and Chris Johnson certainly could have played the role of "all" players, clear first-rounders to many that didn't work out so well.

Ultimately, this team, which is just an example of a stars-and-scrubs entry, can win if the big-time talents stay healthy and productive. As we know, often things don't work out quite that well. How do you fix this team should Foster go down? There was no bench allotment to afford Ben Tate. What if DeSean Jackson doesn't feel much like trying? What can you possibly trade since the bench is all dollar guys? The answer is, your season becomes a problem.

Overall thoughts: The team looks shiny and pretty with its stars, but there's risk without proper balance.

Team 2: Better balance

This team has some depth to it, but doesn't possess players who would warrant consideration in the first round of a draft, and, except for the tight end, the second round, either. Rather, there are quite a few players who would end up in rounds 3 through 7, which is safe and obviously, balanced. If and when there are injuries the bench is built in such a way that there are clear fill-ins ready for action, and there is a clear handcuff aboard in case one of the running backs goes down. It's tough to get a handcuff running back with the stars-and-scrubs focus. Of course, that starting lineup seems to trump this one, as will others in the league.

Because this team wasn't forced into dollar purchases at the end, it was able to bid on more and better players, and acquire a sleeper here or there as opposed to settling for rookies or past-prime veterans. Also, because of the inconsistent nature of players from year to year to start with, this team has a better shot of having someone emerge from the bench to become an immediate star. There are definitely positives to choosing a team in which one, perhaps, sets an imaginary dollar cap on individuals to avoid temptation.

Overall thoughts: An overall upgrade on Team 1, and seemingly a contender, but it can be improved upon.

Team 3: Stars and balance

I've participated in many auctions and can admit to evolving into a more patient fantasy owner that likes this version of a team more than the others. I used to just grab numerous top stars and assume I could find the dollar guys I like. Problem was, everyone else knew the dollar guys I liked! Sure, it's a blast to secure several top players, but it comes with risk. It's also nice to have a bench, since we all know it will be needed. Ending up with a team in this group might be the toughest to execute, but it's preferred.

You've got your first-rounder, if you want to compare it to a draft, and there are a few upside choices represented in the starting lineup and the bench. There was money available for a handcuff and a sleeper or two, and unlike Team 1, the flex spot doesn't have to be the same guy each week. Unlike Team 2, there's more star power here.

In a way this is a team that someone might actually draft, as the players fit neatly into that format. The nice part is, if you're sitting in the third round and really wanted Trent Richardson in a draft he might go with the pick before yours, but here you can get him by topping bids. The best auction policy is really to treat it somewhat like a draft in terms of the final product of players. It's not top-heavy or mid-round-heavy. It's balanced across the rounds.

Overall thoughts: The best team."

Ive got the #1 pick in a 10-team PPR league (snake draft) with 6 pts per passing TD. Take Aaron Rodgers or Ray Rice? Im leaning Rodgers because he will have way more pts than Rice on a consistant basis but RB1 is very very thin.

Note: Im not sold on Arian Foster repeating the success of last season and think Rice will have the best year of the RBs.

people say nowadays that since its such a pass-friendly league that you have to spend an early pick on a Rodgers or Brees or Brady since they get so many points

I say the opposite...guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andy Dalton can throw for 3,500 yards nowadays...stud running backs are more rare...unless Rodgers slips to the end of the 2nd round or something, I'm pretty much always gonna go RB/WR, RB/RB or WR/WR with my first two picks

i think guys like Brees and Brady were a lot more valuable when there were only a handful of elite QBs...now there are 15 QBs that could approeach 4,000 yards and 30 TDs

If someone has a better QB either as a starter or on the bench, or us a Cowboys fan, maybe package Romo with Gronk? Hell, you could easily go after one of the top 3 QBs with that package. Fred Davis is starter worthy, and I'm not totally sold on Gronk reaching the numbers he did last year. Other than that, I think your WRs are great & RBs are solid.

Our league is doing a beer pong tourney for draft order. Cool idea. The winner gets to select their draft spot. So the question is... what draft spot do you like.
