A friend of mine who had a comic book store got a case of free Corn Nuts back when they were doing major promotions in DC comic books. He couldn't give them away, and when I was asked I offered to take the whole case.
I'd never had Corn Nuts before. I ate maybe 5 out of one bag, and the rest of the case lived in my trunk until my car got totalled on I-40 like 5 years later.
If you like Corn Nuts but are feeling bougie, go to Whole Foods and buy a thing of Quicos. They're the same thing, but they're bigger and from Spain so they cost $Barcelona. ] 8/29/2012 9:46:38 PM |

I always see Tillamook jerky at gas stations (and only at gas stations) and it's very tempting but too expensive for a gas station snack. 8/29/2012 9:50:31 PM |

haribo gummy bears are right up there with my favorite candies.
esp. when you leave them open for a day or so, and let them get just a little stale....tasty. 8/30/2012 10:55:05 PM |

Rarely do I find them, but when I do... Oh. My. God.

I get them for $0.85 each out the vending machine at work. So I make sure to buy a couple before I go on a road trip . 8/30/2012 11:01:21 PM |

Haha. I know it's terribly unhealthy, but even after eating one of these I still manage a <1,500 calorie diet
So sometime I eat 2.

I don't do wheat a whole lot, but I do some grains, steel cut oats, quinoa, and brown rice. I will sneak in some pasta every now and then. I'm asian, I can't ever not love carbs though" |
I'm about 80% paleo too, but my cheats are rarely grains and more often sugars and dairy.
This thread has inspired me to try pork rinds. I've always wondered what they were (I just assumed they were pork-flavored funyuns. No idea they were actually pork)8/31/2012 12:02:23 AM |

You should try! It's crunchy and airy. There is also a dense version called chicharon ( pork cracklings), you've probably seent hem in smaller bags, they have more belly fat from the pig's skin than prok rinds, which is just dehydrated top layer of skin.
And I love sweets too, but I can't imagine what kind of sweets you're talking about that isn't made with bleached/unbleached flour Macaroons and ice cream come to mind, but what else? Most of the sweets Im weak for are cakes and pies.
I can't get enough carbs from fruits and veggies to sustain a heavy endurance day (I've tried it sucks). When I added some kind of complex carbs like whole grains to my meals, and it made a huge difference with energy. 8/31/2012 12:27:45 AM |

dehydrated? even the puffy ones are deep fried in their own fat until most of it is rendered out. They have about the same amount of fat as an equivalent serving of potato chips. they are crazy salty though.
you can make your own hahaha

when I was super veg one of the only things i could eat from a gas station (besides unripe fruit) was cape cod potato chips. the russet ones were my fave 8/31/2012 12:38:32 AM |

well you have to dry them until no more water content in the skin, before they can be fried ( otheriwse they don't puff), is what i meant.
speaking of which, has anyone had these thai shrimp chips before?

Dark chocolate (although mark sisson allows for that , candy, cookie butter (which does have flour), sorbet/gelato/ice cream, buckeyes, and I could keep going but now I'm just torturing myself
^ummmm, I'm not sure if those are the same thing, but I had something eerily similar looking at a Thai place in NYC a few years back. Crispy, airy, "foam" chips with little flavor, served as a complimentary starter with peanut sauce. I've been dreaming about them ever since but had no idea what they were or where to get them. Is that what they are?8/31/2012 2:09:43 AM |
