"We noticed someone hiding in the janitor's closet, it's John Anderson from Classroom H."
[Alarm sounds] "A student named Blake Stone from Classroom E entered into a restricted area. Please intercept."
[Alarm sounds] "A student named Harold Mack from Classroom B just left the building. Please intercept."
Why would you have to analyze every second?" |
Actually all of those sound like positive uses of RFID technology that would just aid the enforcement of existing rules in school, not add additional constraints.
I like how you make it sound a lot scarier by adding [alarm sounds] and phrases like 'restricted area'. You should have gone all the way and replaced the student names with "STUDENT NUMBER FIVE SEVEN TWO TWO ZERO ONE". You'd be a decent propaganda minister if you weren't so fucking dumb.11/29/2012 9:49:19 AM |

How would an RFID tell you that a student was hiding in a janitor's closet?
This is RFID, not GPS. Does anyone else care about these giant gaping plot holes? 11/29/2012 10:27:05 AM |

RFID can be used like that in a building, it just wouldn't be because they wouldn't spend the money to do it. 11/29/2012 10:31:11 AM |

You base your conclusion on whose spending habits?

There are far worse things about public schools than tracking their students" |
The fact that you accept that you have no freedom and then rationalize it with "it could be worse" is frightening. Your appeasement tells the government they're allowed to take more and more of your liberty as long as you can think of something worse. ]11/29/2012 10:32:23 AM |

If the events were actually that scary, you wouldn't bother to try and scary-it-up with those phrases.
Let's review the scary events:
-A bookbag goes missing and teachers try to get ahold of students who were in the room when it went missing
-A student gets caught skipping class and gets in trouble for it
-A student sneaks into the boiler room and gets in trouble for it
-A student tries to leave school and play hookie and gets caught11/29/2012 10:36:52 AM |

Quote : | "How would an RFID tell you that a student was hiding in a janitor's closet?" |
Rundown on RFID (From someone who's used it in robotics related stuff)
-The maximum range an RFID tag has without a battery is about 2 meters.
-The most common use of RFID tag is in those cards you use in hotels (Not the magnetic ones, the touch ones)
-For location-tracking, typically RFID tag readers are placed in doorways or other choke points.
So yeah, you can easily set up a system where you know when a student enters the janitor's closet, or leaves the building. But as soon as he leaves the building, good luck finding him unless you've placed a 2mx2m grid of RFID readers across the entire county.11/29/2012 10:42:16 AM |

So you went to school in a Robocop movie, got it.
No, seriously, what's scary about kids getting in trouble for stealing a bookbag, hiding in the janitor's closet, sneaking into the boiler room, or trying to leave the school in the middle of the day?
I'm seriously trying to understand how you think a school is supposed to function if there are no rules requiring you to do things like, oh I don't know, be in class.

They have police all over the county. Schools have contact with the police now. They radio it in. They know how fast people can travel on foot. They know where he lives.

In a dark, dystopian future, children who skip school are chased down by the police using super advanced radio technology and forced back into classrooms. Check out this video of just what it may look like:

Tell me in a your own words what your problem is with RFID tags being used to help school administrators enforce the rules (No stealing, no skipping class, no playing hooky). If your problem is the rules themselves, explain why. Use complete sentences like an adult who is literate. If you can string them together into a whole paragraph that's bonus points. 11/29/2012 11:27:57 AM |

We are taking EASY out of the equation.
More like "no contest", "lockdown"......................................... "prison"
Mandatory school is forced indoctrination of federally controlled material.
Any wavering from school itinerary and the teacher is out of a job.

A loaded question is a question which contains a controversial or unjustified assumption
What is the assumption in the question "School administrators being able to easily locate students and track attendance is bad because" ?
