Are they still playing "Madness" every 15 minutes?

Thats the worst part about 95.3, they overplay songs about as bad as 105.1 does. Its really off putting to hear Madness and "Sail" every 15 min.

Whats up with that song Sail anyway? Has it had a resurgence in popularity because it's used in ads for Vikings?

Song's like 2-3 years old, wtf.

^^^Same here. I had never heard of Sail or AWOLNation until Grinding the Crack was posted on here. Was interesting to me how I never heard it on FM until recently either.

Good to hear that some better radio options are returning to the Raleigh/Durham market. Though I think I've gotten used to XM--I was hearing awolnation a lot early last year, whereas they seem to have broken through to FM just recently.

The one modern rock station I've found in Richmond kind of sucks. One moment they'll play something good, and the next two songs will be some generic-rock bullshit that sounds like the love child of staind and nickelback.

Let's see..artist list on the way home today:

Awolnation
Linkin Park
Imagine Dragons
Grouplove
Offspring
30 Seconds to Mars (Or at least that's who I thought it was)

Yeah, they still have the annoying thing where they play certain songs almost every hour or every other hour. I won't complain too much about it since they have to grab listeners somehow. That said, based on my music tastes, it's moved to the top of my list. Between this and 99.9, I can tolerate the driving commute.

This channel has been playing that I Will Wait single from Mumford and Sons SO MUCH that I actually get angry when the song starts. Talk about running it into the ground.

This station provided a unique opportunity for me and my fiancee to learn more about each other over the weekend. She has no idea that I loved alternative and grunge music.

I just wanted to point out that this station STILL is playing Madness by Muse, I Will Wait by Mumford and Sons, Sail by AWOLNATION, and Ho Hey by The Lumineers regularly.

I was in Wilmington over the weekend and their "new rock" station 98.7 actually plays new music, it is everything 95.3 should be, but isnt.

My drive home commute yesterday consisted of a mid-2000s Foo Fighters song, Wonderwall by Oasis and Ho Hey by the Lumineers. Fucking horrible, lazy playlist

I pretty much only listen to music in the car (15 minute commute each way per day), so I don't mind hearing some of these songs. I do like 95X because I catch some new songs before they become popular and overplayed on other stations (Royals, Pompeii), but they also have a habit to play older songs that I like and never expected to really hear on the radio like Gary Jules Madworld.

But they also do play "Mumford and Sons" (and overplay it at that) which irks me. Just don't really like their music.

Yeah. While it is definitely "better" than the other corporate FM offerings, it's still not that great.

oh yeah, and "Eggs" has the worst DJ voice ever

this station had so much promise, but since its another I heart radio station, their playlist selection is only slightly better than 105.1

I listened to nothing by 98.7 when I was down in Wilmington last weekend and it was great.

I am on the road a lot in my company work truck and I've got nothing but AM/FM radio in there, so I listen to a LOT of terrestrial radio

^ I thought he was referencing 95x...didn't notice who was asking about LRR.

Though isn't the idea of LPFM that the transmitting distance would only be a few miles? As such you would need internet access to listen it outside of that range?

It's a few mile radius, which is good for most of downtown Raleigh. That's the idea, since it's a downtown-centric community station.

Also, what's the big deal about listening online? Tons of people use Spotify and Pandora, not to mention significant online listening of stations outside of one's area, like WFMU.

Sure, but it's just more of a pain to listen to in the car than normal FM radio stations if you're outside those few miles. Just like I use Spotify in the car, but I'm not going to use it if I'm just going for a 10-15 minute drive. I'm not knocking LRR, I'm excited by the development...speaking of which, when is it scheduled to come online?
