well you have to pre-pay on your account, I think $20 was the minimum plus $5 for the sticker. So if you drive it once every 2 or 3 years it doesn't make sense. 12/7/2012 8:25:09 AM |

i have the window sticker.
but the cameras malfunction on occasion (its happened to me 3 times) in which it bills my sticker account AND sends me a separate bill to my house. So I keep getting dinged twice.
Then, I go to the Quickpass place, they say they've removed the double charges, but I get a notice in the mail that I had to pay the civil penalty fee as well as the toll they said, in writing, that they removed, PLUS the stupid processing fee.
I went to their office (it took three times to finally get it settled) and calmly walked them through the paperwork to show them their error. They removed all the charges plus the civil penalty.
But it's far from a perfect system, and it doesn't matter whether you have a sticker or not, it's been a nightmare to get off the ground.12/9/2012 8:10:43 PM |

I drove on the new toll road once and my car was registered at my parents place. My parents got a few letters and tossed them out without letting me know. Long story short, my $0.45 toll turned into a $43 fine. Total BS. 12/9/2012 11:19:14 PM |

^ I don't really see how that's BS. Not their fault you didn't say, "Hey Mom, I should have gotten a toll bill by now. Have you seen one? wtf do you mean you've been throwing out my mail?! "

Yep, that's why I haven't gotten one yet. And I can't use my EZ Pass since the General Assembly won't sort out the nonsense associated with that.12/10/2012 9:42:06 AM |

I was just complaining about the speed at which the fee went from $0.45 to $43. Seems a bit excessive.12/10/2012 11:33:15 AM |

So how did you end up here paerabol? Did you get your $25 back?
In related news, I owe $38 on a $1 toll. They had previously waived a $6 fee, so they refuse to waive anything else, of course threatening me with collections, DMV hold etc. What a fucking racket.
So I can get a sticker that will work in NC for $5, and the minimum pre-load amount is $20 (of course), and if it's unused for 12 months they start pulling fees off that balance. Also if you sign up online you have to consent to auto-bill, so when your account hits $10 or less they automatically bill you for another $20. Since I drive north on occasion, I'm considering the $20 hardcase transponder so it'll work with the EZ pass, but fuck, at that point I'll be giving these assholes $38 + $20 + $20 = $78.9/23/2013 1:30:27 PM |

Just as an FYI to anyone that tries to obscure your tags. Their system is set up to take pictures and locate identifying features (like stickers or vehicle damage) so that next time they get a picture and match the vehicle they can bill you for both trips.
Also if your truck tag is covered by your trailer then the trailer tag will lead them to the owner. 9/23/2013 1:57:21 PM |

hmm. I used this road 2X this year while back in Raleigh for a wedding and bachelor party. I live out of state though and I have never received a bill for either time (both trips were prior to early or mid June probably). Since I haven't driven over that way in a long time, I just assumed the system wasn't working yet even though the signs are up since I never received a bill.
Now after seeing this thread and the date on the thread, I am wondering if I might see something like this soon...

We drove through a toll in October with Florida plates. But we'd moved back to NC, so I was worried we wouldn't get our bill in time to avoid fees. I called them something like 35 days after we went through the toll, and they said the charge hadn't been billed yet. I paid it anyway, then got a bill for $0 3 days later. I like how there's giant lettering on the envelope that says "This is a toll. if you ignore it, there will be fees and extra charges!" 12/5/2013 8:46:57 AM |

you should be able to pay the bill online with only the plate #. how do they expect you to know the invoice # if you never got the bill?
also, i know a guy that says you wont get a bill on a motorcycle if you ride to the right of the white line when going under cameras... 7/20/2014 7:53:53 AM |

I would think most motorcycles that dont have the plate clearly visible (ie not under the rear wheel guard) or some other non-standard attachment place, would get a free ride.

BTTT..
my girlfriend received a bill this week for roughly $75. The bill was for a past due balance of ~$40 and a ~$35 penalty for non-payment. The weird thing was that neither of us have been on toll roads this year and the license plate that is shown on the bill isn't even hers.
Has anyone had this happen and been able to dispute the charges? 9/19/2016 11:49:32 AM |

I bought a vehicle from state surplus (in case you don't know, when you get a vehicle from them, you drive it home without a license plate, and then you go to DMV, they give you paperwork in case you are pulled over)
I drove it down the toll road home, just my way of sticking it to the man 11/16/2016 3:11:22 AM |
