Where did you get that from? I think his main point was what do these people think they're protecting themselves from?"

I can't make out what's trolling from what's not anymore.

It shouldn't matter what people think they're protecting themselves from by making a small town of zealots into an armed castle with AK-47s.

If it's their own property, and they're not hurting anyone, then we should leave them be. When the cops come in justified or not (and we have plenty of examples of both), it's the crazies that die in a ratio of 10:1 compared to the cops doing the raiding.

I have no desire to join such a commune, but for the record, if we're interested in the lawfulness of it...

Not only did the founding of our nation allow from random pockets of small militias, it was kind of the entire point.

There are plenty of things that you might think you're protecting yourself against, but the hostile attitude our nation takes toward the "crazies" completely justifies their paranoia.

and nobody has said otherwise. somebody, on a messageboard, questioned what they thought they were protecting themselves from. nobody said they shouldn't have a right to set-up their on commune.

But can they set up a commune? If the Citadel is built then won't we all be suspicious? Won't the FBI be breathing down their necks?

How long before some trivial infraction causes the police to come knock on their door? At that point, do we recognize the presence of a local security force that replaces the police for domestic affairs?

In a sense, the liberals might be right - we haven't given these communes the right to exist.

Let them waste their money.

Less of it to buy weapons with.

I could have done so much more than this.

The funny imo has nothing to do with prepped weirdness. It's the idea abunch of freedom loving "patriots" will come together and some how get along. Everyone will be carrying a gun everywhere and they will self police themselves. Also all races and religions are allowed and there is no background check.

And everything is funded by a gun factory.

It sounds like an awesome tv show.

I really hope this becomes a reality in some form, but I doubt it will ever be completed. I know it won't be how they envision it. It would be an interesting social experiment that will inevitably fail, likely in spectacular fashion. I hope the media provides regular coverage of the compound if it is built.

If you're paranoid about the government, then why post the schematics of your adult pillow fort online?

looks like half-community, half-tourist attraction to me. the walls just make it that much more grandiose.

FWIW, from the FAQ's:

Quote :
"What Threats Do You Expect to Defend Against?

The Citadel is primarily designed to defend against a grid-down, economic collapse scenario. When most people ask this question they are thinking in terms of defending against violent action but there are other aspects to defending ourselves. Self-sufficiency in terms of food, water and energy are also a form of defense against a collapse scenario, so these are a major part of our plan.

The Citadel is not designed to withstand any direct .Mil or .Gov attack. Nor is the Citadel, in any manner, attempting to provoke any government entity."

Well, per their site, they plan on having one, along with the hotel, the air strip, the churches, the RV park, the museum, the amphitheater, the retirement facility and more. I suppose you can fit all of that and 7,000 families into 2 square miles, but it will probably be a tight fit.

I hope they sell a lot of guns, because this will be an expensive place to live if they don't.

I'm still hung up on the idea of a libertarian utopia sharing profits from a state-run industry
