That wasn't really finishing a check. The puck was gone and Carcillo was going in late, then turned to target Yakupov when he tried to avoid the hit. I mean, it would have been called "finishing a check" had Yakupov been injured and the hit debated, but yeah, Carcillo just got outsmarted. If he's allowed to finish a check, Yakupov certainly should be allowed to avoid it.

Disclaimer: I hate Carcillo.

somehow Erik Cole was traded but to the Stars, not the Hurricanes

Clipping is throwing a check at the knees. Yakupov is standing still at the boards.

^ Montreal wanted to recycle Ryder. That explains Cole's involvement.

I'm well aware of what clipping is. He wasn't exactly standing still. He ducks that hit, creating contact with Carcillo low. Probably not a penalty, but if it were, that is what I think would be called.

This was a good point though:

I don't see a clip, but I'm not sure what it was... I don't think I liked it, but I didn't like what carcillo did either. Call it a wash and move on...

I agree that he should be allowed to avoid a check. Generally this is done by rolling it off or skating to avoid it. What's dangerous is flipping a guy headfirst into the boards. It could be one of those moves that simply becomes taboo within the NHL and hopefully isn't being taught as a valid way of avoiding a check.

Markstrom yanked from Florida net after giving up two goals on two shots in the first three minutes against the Caps.

Clemmensen goes in, gives up two more goals before the clock hits 10:00.

Quote :
"Scratch Corey Perry’s name from the list of potential unrestricted free agents to hit the free-agent market this summer, after the 2011 Hart Trophy winner came to terms on a new eight-year contract worth $69-million (all currency U.S.) with the Anaheim Ducks Monday.

Sources put the average annual value of the contract at $8.625-million, which is slightly more than the $8.25-million that Getzlaf will earn. It is a significant financial commitment for a Ducks team that was in the bottom third of the NHL in payroll this season (at $56.15-million)."

I figured he'd test out free agency.

Iginla a healthy scratch for Flames against Avalanche
Quote :
"With the trade deadline a week away, the Calgary Flames may be preparing for life without their captain.

The Flames announced about two hours before game time that Jarome Iginla will not be in uniform when they host the Colorado Avalanche.

The team said "no further information will be provided at this time."

TSN's Bob McKenzie reported via Twitter that an Iginla deal is not imminent, but rather that Flames management is protecting its captain from possible injury. Calgary will also host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday before visiting the Edmonton Oilers on Monday."

I wonder if it's ever happened before where two captains were traded to the same team before the trade deadline.

Supposedly Luongo asked to be pulled off the ice to troll the media

And had this gem: "My contract sucks -- that's what's the problem," Luongo said. "I'd scrap it if I could now."

However, that's exactly where I saw it.

I think I saw it on Bobby Mac's retweet and didn't pay attention to original Tweeter
