I liked how long it took for Don to say anything with the exception of the voice over. Slightly confused by the sequence of the doorman heart attack at first.

Guessing the comedian was probably George Carlin. Heart transplant. So we're what...Christmas of 67? Just half year from end of s5?

Glad mad men is back. My Sundays just became complete.

That first episode was a little "meh"...but I'm glad its back.

I also thought Don was going to be fucking the other dude's wife (the blonde who was hitting on him all night)...and not the doc's. But I'm just happy the chick from Freaks and Geeks is finally getting some decent work again...she fly.

I totally didn't catch that Don switched his lighter with the guy at the bar. At least I remembered that Roger wanted the shoe shine guy.

is the reason why Don started freaking out so much because his lighter likely says D. Whitman and he is worried that the other guy will know who he is?

If so, it seemed a bit extreme that he would be so worked up over a lighter he could say wasn't really his.

This new guy, the wharton MBA in accounts. I found that interesting. I think he is supposed to symbolize the transition of business, with a high value on college degrees, MBAs, etc.. rather than the traditional person who maybe was ex-military and then had worked themselves to the top.

The Betty rape conversation was a little odd but to me it illustrated how she has become more comfortable and relaxed in her own skin. I can't see her ever saying anything like that in the years she was with Don.

It was cool seeing the Peggy story.

Pete clearly considers himself at or above Don's level by now. "and then you walk away from me and the you take a nap".

I also agree with the above comments, though, that the episode could have easily been an hour and was mostly "meh". Just a lot of the show felt forced.

he wasn't afraid of being outed, just upset at losing something that important to who he was/now is

and it was really two, one hour episodes, just like last season. they work as one episode, but it's better to think of them as two different eps

I've been wondering about this lighter all day. I've heard it was actually the original Don Draper's lighter and the lighter D. Whittman used to accidentally blow real D Draper up. I gotta go back and watch that scene.

Clearly it was the lighter given to Dick from Jacob when he was named the new protector of the island

It's just a damn memento

very meh episode. megan's coat in the scene w/ the doorman bothered me a lot. i guess it's just bc it's sloppy. idk. she came in wearing a spotted dark colored coat with a giant furry hat, cut to doorman falling over, then back to her screaming & she's wearing a bright orange jacket & no hat. wtf? i backed it up to watch it again. did i miss something or did they just fuck up?

MAN OH MAN

(but seriously, has there ever been a show so meticulously planned out/written/shot as Mad Men? and you think you caught them being "sloppy"???)

Well yeah I was dealing with the baby for part of it then was looking at Pinterest, so yeah I missed it bc I wasn't paying attention. I backed it up only about 10 seconds so whatever was going on before they walked in, I missed. I'm sorry I wasn't devoting my full 100% attention at the time

I was confused at first as well, but when it cuts to the orange coat that's a flashback. Months prior (assuming this is when don meets the drs wife--Lindsey Weir--for the first time and their affair starts after) the doorman has the heartattack, and Don was recalling that incident when they were arriving back from their trip. All ties in to his internal demons on who he is, the heavy death looming tone of last season and this premiere, and his affair and friendship with the dr/husband of his mistress.

^hahaha for real. When I finished watching it I was like "why do I bother?!"

Other than the lighter, there has been something else bothering me. Some people took the opening scene in the premiere as Jonesy's heart attack. But during the show I really wondered if it was Don's. As the show went on there were a few things I noticed as subtle clues that confirmed this suspicion. So last night I went back and watched the opening scene and then watched the scene where Jonesy had his heart attack. They are definitely different scenes. Both the doctor's tie the words spoken vary from those which we see in the Jonsey flashback.

Also I don't buy that the lighter is just a damn memento would so heavily distract Don during his photo shoot and then cause him to start drinking so heavily. This is a man who has left a lot behind and has had a lot of things happen to him. Just losing his lighter wouldn't put him that much on tilt.

I also thought it was Don's heart attack.

And regarding the lighter, if anything we saw how people reacted differently to mementos this entire episode. Don and the lighter. Roger and the shoe shining kit. Roger's daughter to the water from the River Jordan. Jane and Roger's mother's ring. Betty/Sandy to Sandy's violin. What means something to some people means nothing to others, and something so small can bring about powerful emotions.

that scene was crazy to me because I am just staring intently at Henry to see what his reaction was goign to evolve into at any point of that exchange. I was expecting him to be all "What the hell??" and then I expected him to at least laugh about it as if it were an obvious running joke between them or something...but the whole time he just teetered in this indifferent-but-sightly-entertained demeanor which probably makes it even more odd to me. That whole family is just weird man

The funniest part was when they flashbacked to that doorman havign a heart attack and they asked for someone to call a doctor and that dumb woman walked over and pushed the elevator button

i think the whole point of that brief and sudden flashback was to introduce this doctor without any dialogue from Don; as in why these guys know each other and why in the hell of all people might Don have befriended this guy

im not gonna ride her too hard for that, it was a very sharp cut but at the same time it was somewhat of a (dont know the technical film term but i am sure there is one) "very continuous, seamless" shot. But I would question myself before questioning the editing of the mad men staffers for sure LOL

I don't this episode had anything to do with that. So although you might be right...it wasn't an issue last night. He just didn't like that fat fuck from Jaguar.

I want to see Trudy start fucking around and show her tits. Maybe Don will fuck her.

he clearly intentionally sabotaged the Jaguar thing, i was actually thinking in thet scene that Don still has the ability to be great in advertising; in this instance he used it in reverse

sounds like pete and trudy have arranged something of an open relationship so long as pete kept it tight. That is an interesting development id love to know how the hell Trudy wound up being down with that.

In the beginning of the episode when don was in bed with whats her name and he paid her I had assumed this was a prostitution sort of relationship and hes giving her money to help her out financially like he did with junkie art seller midge. Thats why they could talk so openly about each other's spouses; but by the end of the episode that doesnt seem to be the case at all, maybe its all the guilt from poor megan not being able to provide a child. I dono its just kind of a weird dynamic to me I cant shake that this is a pay to play thing going bad.

I thought he gave her money simply because he bumped in to her that morning asking her husband for money for something. He said he would go by the bank later. Dr said in the elevator to Don, "I give her an allowance every month, but I think she sends it to our son. You're lucky your wife works." So Don just doubly did her that morning.

Don telling Lindsay Weir exactly what he was going to do to her and how much she was going to love it was probably the best thing ever

So much good stuff in this episode, and I'm definitely gonna watch again. Off the top of my head, I really liked Pete getting perturbed about Don's references to Munich. LOL

I would be more disappointed in Don if he he didn't have such a consistently compelling type. Still, the doctor is probably the realest dude we've gotten to see in Don's life, and it is all kinds of messed up what he's doing with his wife.

Megan was considering an abortion prior the miscarriage so she felt guilt due to her Catholic upbringing. she was hoping Sylvia, a fellow Catholic, would back her up, but nope, "bitch, abortion is murder," she said, essentially.

I don't see how you all doubt some of the obvious things that happen in the episodes such as Don sabotaging the campaign or that lady being anti-abortion.
