Lewis played Larkin straight up in our game. Larkin should be 2nd team.

Larkin really doesn't have great numbers.

13.8 pts, 4 rebs, 4 ast

You can argue Brown and Cook have had better years

Larkin is a very good outside shooter, and he turns it over much less than Brown.

Larkin's main selling point is that he's the PG of the best team in the ACC. That goes a long way in a year where there is no clear cut favorite to win POY. I personally think Joe Harris deserves it as he's taken that team to the top 4 (as of now) in the ACC and UVa is a pretty horrible team talent wise. Really it is just Harris and Mitchell.

It could come down to who has a big game this week. If Plumlee goes for 30 and 15 against UNC, he might win it solely on the fact that voters sometimes have short term memories. Howell will make 1st team, I am confident of this.

Who the heck should win PotY if not Green? Plumlee can't (he's stunk most of second half of ACC), Larkin shouldn't. Harris?

Also, Sulaimon shouldn't be a lock for RotY.

Just saw in the Duke/VT game that Green averaged about 2.5 points his freshman year.

Larkin making 1st team for a point guard over Zo is absolute shit, IMO. If anything Larkin should take Seth Curry's coveted 1st team spot because Zo is clearly the best point guard in the ACC right now.

Gold made a great point on 99.9 this afternoon about it being Player of the Year and not Most Valuable Player, so Green being on a bad team should have nothing to do with his case for POTY

"Not that good"?

This transition from red to mostly green disagrees.

^ Exactly. And nobody has been able to stop him this year or really bother him that much. And he leads the league in assists by a large margin but also has good rebs and ppg. Don't know why he is not considered at this point.

honestly, i see zo as just an amazing basketball player. when he wants to he will get to the basket, and not only that but by the time he gets there 4 times out of 5 it's an empty lane somehow. his handle is beautiful, he rarely gets out of control (though he can get careless). if he would just get his jumpshot going like he did at the end of last year, he will be unstoppable again. when he's comfortable pulling up from 12' he's just too good for college basketball.

Zo and Larkin have similar per game numbers, but Zo got hurt and we lost a few games, and Miami is going to be regular season champs

so he's gonna be the PG on the first team, no sense in getting mad about it

^You forgot to mention we didn't have Zo for 3 of those 4 loses.

I know he technically played in the UVA game, but he was out before he could make an impact. Completely caught us off guard.

Quote :
"Pomeroy picks a national player of the year based on a proprietary formula that combines player performance with team success; Plumlee has been among the leaders all season and went into Tuesday night's games ranked fourth nationally. (Louisville's Russ Smith was No. 1.) Applying that same formula to the ACC, Pomeroy said Plumlee had a significant lead within the conference.
The rest of his all-ACC team going into Tuesday night's games:
Plumlee, Duke
Joe Harris, Virginia
Akil Mitchell, Virginia
Shane Larkin, Miami
Kenny Kadji, Miami
(The influence of Virginia's slow-tempo, high-efficiency offense is obvious here; Kadji, at the moment, is on the first-team bubble for most voters I've talked with -- totally worthy, but behind Erick Green and Richard Howell as things stand.)"

mitchell is a pretty key part of virginia's defense this year

however, if that is factored into his rankings I don't get how plumlee is that high. he's used the gottfried "dont contest shots because you might commit a foul and have to sit" strategy all year

His "draw" with Paige in that UNC game really hurt us. He should have destroyed that spindly freshman.

Cook averages more points, has a much higher eFG%, has a better A:TO ratio and (IMO) plays better defense.

It's close though.

Upon further inspection, Cook averages 0.1 more points and .22 more A/TO than Zo a game.

I like Cook, but I just dont think he's on the same PG tier as Zo

"ROY: Rasheed Sulaimon, 6-4 guard, Duke. North Carolina point guard Marcus Paige made a strong closing case, but Sulaimon has been terrific from Day 1. Aside from a mini-slump in January when he was benched for one game, Sulaimon started every game for the Blue Devils this season. He was the team’s fourth-leading scorer (12.0 ppg), but he did a little of everything, including blocking an average of 1.6 shots per game, which was tied with Plumlee for the team lead. All in all, Sulaimon had a remarkably productive and consistent freshman season."

Seth Davis just tweeted this. Very confusing. Sulaimon has 2 blocks... all year long.

[Edited on March 7, 2013 at 3:49 PM. Reason : also warren averages a full point more and obviously has a higher fg% and rpg]

^ lol. He probably looked at the wrong column in the stat sheet as he put together that article.

I hate that Warren is getting no mention at all. Paige has played well in UNC's new smaller lineup, but dude was garbage for much of the season. Warren has had some off nights, but he's been pretty damn solid all year on a team with a lot of weapons. Sulaimon benefitted heavily from Kelly being out.

Call me when Rasheed puts up 31 and 13 against an ACC opponent...then we can talk about naming him ROY. Otherwise, TJ wins it in my mind. Sulaimon will end up winning it because hes a Dukie though.

OBTW...TJ had 1 less point last night than Sulaimon has had in his last 3 games.

Remember when Hodge got beaten out for ROY by Ed Nelson? Yeah, neither does anyone else.

Warren may lead the ACC in scoring next season.

so?

he still played at a semi-high level

and in no way am I advocating him for ROY, but that's a dumb thing to argue against his candidacy

Sulaimon did put up 27 and 25 in two ACC games. I don't think he should win it though. Hanlan and Warren have had more consistent seasons. fuck Paige.

I'm pretty surprised by the fact that Warren has barely gotten any hype at all. He's had a great season.

its funny how much hype the blue teams are getting right now with the small lineup for UNC and Kelly returning for Duke. Whats gone unmentioned is the fact that we're 6-1 since Lorenzo returned and he was out for half of our ACC losses. Looking forward to the ACC Tournament...
