Italian manager was smart to get between the pitcher and ump after walking off the mound. Dude was pissed.

^ This was a repeat of the Dominican Republic-Italy game. Italy went up 3-0 early, was up 3-1 in the 8th and just collapsed. Puerto Rico scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th going through their whole lineup once (and they left the bases loaded). The Italian infielders just couldn't smoothly catch the ball in the infield and make a throw all of a sudden. Puerto Rico for example took the lead on some very good baserunning by Alex Rios. He's on 2nd, a chopper is hit to short, ball does not hit Rios but he's running in front of the infielders and his running distracts them but not like it's foul play or anything, the third baseman goes for the ball and misses, shortstop gets it, throws to first, and it's a bad throw so first baseman is off the bag and the hitter is safe at first. Rios meanwhile never stopped running and scored from 2nd on an infield hit. Italy just had some braindead fielding, don't know if it was nerves or whatever.

Tonight's game has Dickey starting for the U.S. against Samuel Dudeno starting for the Dominican. The loser plays Friday night against Puerto Rico.

Dominican Republic 3, United States 1. Tight pitchers' contest game. U.S. picked up a run in the 1st, and Hanley Ramirez just belted a ball in the 2nd so far it went into the standing room bar behind left-center field. It was a home run with a lot of room to spare. Only thing Dickey gave up though in 5 innings. So 1-1 in the 2nd and the next run wasn't scored til the top of the 9th when Craig Kimbrel gives up a single to pinch hitter Erick Aybar and a run comes in from 3rd. Aybar scores on a later hit and that's the final score, 3-1. Kimbrel lets up 2 runs and 3 hits in 2/3rds.

Umpire had a funky strike zone all night. But at least he was consistent for both teams.

U.S. and Puerto Rico tomorrow night to see who grabs the final spot in the semifinals and once again it's win or go home. I imagine Vogelsong is starting.

crowd of 34466 in Miami which because the stadium has been in existance for one year and because the home team is the Marlins, that's one of the top 5 attendances in the stadium's history

Wright has been the hottest offensive player of the entire tournament, this is really going to hurt our chances.

Down 4-0 in the 7th.

We should make PR the 51st state just so we can claim their baseball players.

Or field a team of the best players from the USA. Imagine a pitching staff of Verlander, Kershaw, Cain, Price, Strasburg, Sabathia, Lincecum, Weaver, Greinke

Puerto Rican pitching doing a good job shutting down the Japanese bats. They didn't get a hit til the 4th inning. Alex Rios hit a 2-run homer in the 7th inning for Puerto Rico to give them a 3-0 lead.

Miguel Tejada just did a Bill Buckner in the 9th.

Thankfully for him the Dominicans are up 3-0 and it was the first baserunner.

Undefeated...pretty damn impressive.

Why are the best Dominican players willing to put themselves on the line like that but American players won't?
