I got rear-ended by this lady a month ago. Damage wasn't bad and no one was injured, so I trusted in her enough that she'd pay me out of pocket to buff the damage out (if possible) and I chose not to file a police report. She was very grateful at the time and thanked me repeatedly.

Well, a week goes by before I can take it to a shop (due to bad weather, you couldn't see much of the damage). I end up going to a detail place, and the guy can buff out about 60% of the bumper, but when it's all cleaned and polished you can still see damage.

SO I call the gal back and tell her for $200 I'll consider the issue resolved, to which her husband agrees and says they'll mail a check. In a few days, I get the check along with a card from the gal stating that she was surprised to hear that I went through the trouble of fixing such minor damage and that it cost $200, and that normally she'd ask for an invoice of the repair, but that she was trusting me.

Though I shouldn't complain since I got my money, I couldn't believe how ungrateful-sounding that card was. I could have filed a report, giving her a $230 ticket, and increased insurance rates (maybe).

^^^ It's a woman... most don't understand that most men cherish their cars (as long as its not the beater) and the surprise is mostly on the idea that if she was in your position, she would have given no fucks about her car with scratches or dents on it and rather spend that $200 on beauty products or a hair cut... But yeah, the way you have it worded, she sounds like a dick.

a guy hit my car on campus and admitted fault because he didn't want to get the police involved. i gave him the option to either wait for the cop or have him give me a recorded statement of him admitting fault (to which he agreed). insta-peace of mind. everything went smoothly after that.
