Pay no mind to the ghey roofrack. It was the only way to fit a 35" spare in there with all of our camping/wheeling shit for the weekend.
Eventually welded up a hinged rear tire carrier.

Holy short wheelbase, batman!
I did want a 2-door Cherokee Chief when I was in high school. Still wouldn't mind an SJ of some variant (or a Gladiator/J10) once I become a homeowner and need to be able to haul shit around.

if you want a TJ, and that is a good choice, Westgate Chrysler has a ton of them.
please don't dick up a nice XJ...they are getting harder to find that aren't beat to hell 'cause they are cheap' by a bunch of mouthbreathers

we just snagged a beater TJ for a hunting wagon, it is a base model, 4 cyl and a 5 speed and bone stock. It will run on fairly good woods roads with some creek crossings to get through occasionally. I dont want to lift it nor re gear it. I am leaning toward some 30s or 31s to avoid a lift and to still have the power to spin them to clean the lugs out. 31s on a 4 cylinder will be about max size for any road speed....but having the 5 speed really helps you wind out each gear. Not a bad combo, and pretty bulletproof. 4/24/2013 10:01:46 PM |

I just feel like people ask an arm and a leg for anything CJ. and be prepared to do a lot of little upgrades just to be decent. When I had my 83 CJ7 I spent more time working on it than driving it. I like simplicity, but I think a YJ/ TJ is pretty hard to beat for a soft top jeep.
It can really go either way when you're buying something built- you can get a total hack job, or something that was done right, or just one thats been beat on. you can save some coin on mods, but lots of problems can arise too. I found that out the hard way when I bought my FZJ80. Just learn as much as you can and check it out real careful, or take someone with you who knows what to look for. 4/25/2013 12:30:30 AM |
