I'm 5 games into my Dynasty, so far I'm really liking the game.

Dynasty:
- I harped on recruiting a bit, but I think it was just the drastic change, but I'm adjusting and figuring it out a bit. Also read that with a "created coach" you start well behind the curve and have to make up a lot of ground in recruiting.(So far through 5 games no commits, and mainly battling for 3 star players, though was #2 for 2 5* star players and couldn't make up any ground on #1 team)
- Like how what game a player visits for matters when recruiting(bonus points for top 25 games, rivals, etc). Also like that they give you goals to get more points, like I had a LB visiting and I could get extra points for his visit if I got 2 sacks with a LB in the game he was visiting.
- I don't like that it tries to make me create an EA Origins account every time I just try to get to my Offline Dynasty, there might be a way to disable this(other than not signing into Live) but I haven't explored yet.
- TOO MANY UPSETS. Seems like every game I'm getting a scoring update of another ranked team losing(USC loses by double-digits to UNC, WF beats Clemson to make Clemson 1-3 through 4 games, BC beats FSU, etc)

Extras:
- I like the new "leveling" up your Coach to unlock more abilities and stuff, think it's a nice twist. Also glad it incorporates the idea of you leveling up not only your HC, but also an OC and DC.
- Haven't tried out Road to Glory or Ultimate Team but both are getting positive reviews, so I might have to actually give them a chance.
- As stated, menu is streamlined and loading is much faster. Also like the new loading screens for games because you can check out stats and top players and stuff.

Gameplay:
- Liking our new offensive scheme, but I do think they've put a LOT of emphasis on making the run option a little too effective. Guess they had to make it usable since so many profile teams are switching to it.
- Number of penalties and turnovers are WAY down compared to previous installments, which isn't necessarily very accurate for college football. Probably an adjustable slider for these.
- THEY FIXED THE LEAPING LINEBACKERS!
- Shoestring tackles look nice, but man they can be annoying when you're on offense and you turn the corner and go down.
- Seems a tad bit tougher to get pressure(could be that I've faced 5 top 25 teams with above average OLs) and QBs are on FIRE(70+% completion rate and relatively few drops by CPU WRs)
- Physics engine/graphics solid, everything looks/feels solid/smooth.
- Haven't noticed any huge glitches(couple of voice-overs saying "and they don't get it!" and in fact I did get the first-down/conversion.
- Like the new audio from players on the field, makes a nice/more realistic touch. Such as players yelling "SCREEN" when the CPU throws a screen.

Curious to see how it'll feel when I play "easier" opponents.

and they seem to have upped special teams a bit... either that or Devrin Young is really good. In about 6 quarters of play I have had 2 kickoffs returned for TDs and one punt

Yeah special teams is a bit easier to return in this game. Underwood has been killing it for me on KR's, no TDs yet, but 2-3 returns have been nothing but green in front of me and someone caught me with a shoe-string tackle or caught me in a run down.

that good that this is more up front. i always used to wonder if i had, say, a running back visiting, if it mattered how many times i ran the ball.

I guess this is what happens when passing lanes don't matter anymore. I always liked the leaping linebackers because it was a check to how good the passing game could be. If I think about any of the past games without leaping linebackers, nobody would ever get a stop. Games were already in the 40s and 50s all the time.

this worries me as it has been the problem the last several games. Sounds like it might be magnified by more human-like defenders. What level are you playing on?

All-American. Never ran the Pistol, wasn't trying to throw it on Heisman until I got use to the new offense.

In the past games I could still get pressure with my DEs(just moving around pre-snap a bit to hit different gaps, more like a 3-4 standing blitzer). So far I think my DTs have had better luck getting sacks than my DEs in this year's version.

I can't tell if I'm playing against really good QBs(changed schedule, played Boise St, Ok. St, Clemson, and Oklahoma) or if our secondary is just atrocious.

Zone D seems like its more effective this year. Last year it was worthless, you could key to the pass, have it thrown to the center of the zone with a defender standing there and the catch would still be made 9 times out of ten. This year I've noticed its a lot more effective. You can still pass over/under and through the holes if theres the right time but it works like its supposed to.

Switched it up and tried the Ultimate Team mode last night. Was curious if everyone started with the same basic team or if it was indeed completely random.

I chose NC State offense/defense to base everything on, so I was hoping they'd at least give me a semi-mobile QB. First I saw Sanchez and was like "you've gotta be kidding me", and then the back-up was Dennis Dixon...to which I was very happy, haha. Took me a bit to remember these were "Freshman" level cards, so all of the players suck compared to what you think of with their names. Ex: Mason Crosby can't hit a 40 yard FG with max power and wind at his back. The 2 NC State guys I landed were Graham and Pressley, which have been solid additions(mainly because for some reason as Freshman level cards they're both ranked 70 while guys like Percy Harvin and Dixon are sitting at 65-68 overall).

Decided to play one of the EA challenges this week/month, and it was a game against the All-Miami team. As if that team wouldn't be challenging as it is(85 overall ranking compared to my ~67-68 overall team ranking), they added other stars to their team too. So their WR core is Michael Irving, Andre Johnson, Devin Hester...and Larry Fitzgerald...with Doug Flutie throwing to them, haha.

Digging the whole game type, winning "coins" to unlock new/better players and such. Not sure how much time I'll devote to it or if I'll use it as just a little break from my dynasty mode, but it's a nice addition.

What's our playbook like? Outside of the spread... is there a lot of option? Is is mostly run and pass? I have NCAA 2012 and I was thinking of playing again, only to use the new playbooks. Thanks for the advice.

^If it's close to the offense Doeren runs, it's going to be super boring. Mostly run and pass? The NC State playbook is only run and pass. I hope his actual offense has more variety.

Well fuck me, I meant to type "run-heavy or pass-heavy".

I'll import the Northern Illinois playbooks. 2012 was Doeren's first year at Northern Illinois, so IDK if the playbooks will be accurate, but i guess it's the best I can do.

damn 10 years since NCAA 04,the height of the series imo. I think EA had some timer on the game where it counted how long you spent playing in total. I played for something like a week and a couple days

Does it have the classic games feature where you had to rewrite or duplicate the ending?

I think they took out the Historic/Classic game mode where you had to re-enact some miracle comeback or goal-line stand.

Just wrapped up my first season. I didn't like the off-season recruiting as much as the older games(1 week versus 5), but I did manage to end up with a top 10 recruiting class my first season(with a created coach) and won some solid 2-3 team battles for some recruits(usually battled Clemson, UNC, and Tennessee).

I'm not sure how I feel about the coaches tree having an effect on player ratings. I mean I was more than happy to add points to the Man Coverage boost for my DC as he leveled up(and this really helped my pass D), but just seems a bit odd. Esp. once you get the trees filled out completely, you'll be getting bumps in basically every skill category for all of your positions. Guess they're going with the more proven your HC/OC/DC are, the better they'd be at training the players.

what the hell am I doing wrong with the rosters? I downloaded the completed set, and they show up when I go to team management, but when I start a dynasty it reverts back to just QB #16, etc.

if you feel like you may want to play at some point you might want to go ahead and get this year's edition...

Quote :
"The NCAA announced today that it will no longer license its trademarks to EA Sports for use in the popular NCAA Football video game series. 2014's will be the last edition to feature NCAA school names, logos, uniforms, and fight songs.

We are confident in our legal position regarding the use of our trademarks in video games. But given the current business climate and costs of litigation, we determined participating in this game is not in the best interests of the NCAA.
"We aren't afraid of the Ed O'Bannon lawsuit, yet we're getting the hell out of the highly profitable video game market." Makes sense.

The class-action suit led by O'Bannon, you'll remember, charges the NCAA with profiting off the images of current and former student-athletes without sharing a dime. The NCAA has always maintained, and continues to do so in this statement, that the players in the games are not meant to represent actual unpaid laborers. (This despite common sense, and former EA employees saying of course they're meant to be the specific athletes.)

This move will have no effect on the standing of O'Bannon's suit—that genie's not fitting back in that bottle. But it does provide a glimpse of how fucking terrified the NCAA clearly is about the wave of pending litigation. And it gives a preview of the NCAA's possible strategy for mitigation.

The suit's about video game money, yes, but it's more about the fraud of amateurism—the idea that college sports is somehow above money, even as the NCAA and its member institutions pull in millions by licensing off facsimiles of uncompensated players. All those athletes want is a slice of that pie. Rather than give it to them, the NCAA is declaring that no one can have any pie. Or, a more appropriate metaphor: the NCAA is that kid who, when losing at a game, hurriedly turns off his console."

wonder if they'd be able to keep making games without NCAA name

http://kotaku.com/the-ncaa-will-not-renew-its-licensing-agreement-with-ea-815771708

Quote :
"That applies to the NCAA's name and its logo. It's unclear how this affects the license EA Sports holds through the Collegiate Licensing Company, which is the all-in-one deal that gives the game its access to more than 120 schools' names, symbols, logos, stadia and the like. The CLC is separate from the NCAA and handles the licensing business for more than 200 colleges and universities, plus athletic conferences and bowl games. If EA Sports still has CLC licensing, the game could go forward, just under another name."

^Close but not really. Basically the team at EA put out a challenge and they took the base All-Miami team and added some players they liked to make it even better and more of a "challenge". Didn't go through the whole roster but it's just mainly Miami players with some other guys sprinkled in.

I just know I was banking on QB being a weak spot for that team and then Flutie comes out firing on all cylinders, haha. And adding Fitz wasn't a huge deal, already knew I'd have to deal with Irving and Andre Johnson. But just ridiculous to throw him in there and make Hester their #4 WR, haha.

http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/7/17/4532588/ncaa-ea-sports-college-football-video-game

Quote :
"Here are seven college football things that EA Sports could use in a video game without the NCAA's consent:

1. School names

And colors, logos, mascots, stadiums, fields, fight songs, cheers, and so on.

Universities sell their athletic licensing via the Collegiate Licensing Company, not via the NCAA. Additionally, each individual school and conference can choose whether to sell its rights solo.

2. The College Football Playoff

The Playoff, like the BCS before it, is not owned or operated in any way by the NCAA. The NCAA runs the postseason tournaments for all other NCAA-sanctioned sports and for FCS, Division II, and Division III football.

3. Bowl games

Almost all are owned by ESPN, not the NCAA. The few that are not also like attention.

4. The Heisman Trophy

And all other player and coach awards.

The Heisman is run by the Heisman Trust and sponsored by an array of huge corporations. The NCAA has virtually nothing to do with it.

5. Conference names

Like schools, conferences handle their own branding.

6. Coach names

Not currently used in the game, perhaps in order to enforce the flimsy NCAA/EA claim that player likenesses aren't used. But coaches could be added, once EA is either no longer worried about the O'Bannon case (which would likely mean paying a players' union for name rights or using something like historic rosters for each team). That would just mean buying coach likenesses from, say, the American Football Coaches Association.

7. ESPN

This could be the big one. The series already uses ESPN graphics and announcers, and nothing about that would change.

My best guess? EA Sports will either call its next edition of the game College Football 15 or ESPN College Football 15. It already uses ESPN branding on its packaging for current games, and ESPN is a far (far) better brand than the NCAA at the moment, and even more so in the future.

Either way, nothing about the NCAA's move changes the future of the game series."

I doubt they'll be able to continue exploiting these kids after the O'Bannon lawsuit. The NCAA stepping back from this game is a pretty sure sign that they know the jig is up, at least on video games. I can't wait to see the NCAA get its clock cleaned in civil court. I hope that suit breaks them.

picked this up for 360. one of my favorite things to do on the old college hoops 2k series was to start at a low tier school and work my way up the food chain so I figured I'd try something similar. found a shitty low-major at which I started at OC, we'll see how many seasons it takes for me to get NC State's HC offer.

looks like our jerseys for this year are going to say "NC STATE" on the front with some striping going down the sides of the pants/shoulders.
