Beyond thrilled that the name is coming back but I am interested to see if the original colors are in fact implemented. The light blue in the advertisement there is concerning! Def kick that yellow NOLA crap to the curb and no funky logo redesigns! A slight modification that is true to the original is fine by me but nothing extreme like what they did in NOLA.

I'm all for this as long as the action lines remain that make the hornet look fidgety like a crackhead.

Dear Heng,

Today marks a monumental occasion for our franchise and for the city of Charlotte, as we have officially submitted our application to the NBA Board of Governors to change our name to the Charlotte Hornets beginning with the 2014-15 season. The response we received during the process of researching this decision was overwhelming and made it clear to us that you wanted the Hornets name back in Charlotte.

The Charlotte Hornets name has been a mainstay throughout the region for many years, and we are excited to announce our intention to re-establish this historic brand. We believe that its return will galvanize our fan base by unifying our loyal Bobcats fans with those who have strong memories of our city's NBA predecessor.

I remember playing against the Hornets when the Charlotte Coliseum was one of the most exciting atmospheres in the league. There was a genuine love for the team and a level of appreciation that few other places could claim. When I purchased this franchise three years ago, one of my goals was to bring that passion for NBA basketball back to the city of Charlotte. Today's announcement is the first step in a process that we hope will see our team take the floor as the Hornets in 2014-15 and then ultimately lead to that same widespread enthusiasm and pride in our franchise as we continue to grow our fan base.

We anticipate that the NBA's Board of Governors will vote on our application at its next meeting on July 18. Their approval would launch a year-long process that would include the selection of the team's colors, the designing of the team's logo, uniforms and playing court, and a number of alterations at Time Warner Cable Arena.

The next 18 months will be very exciting for our organization, and we thank you for embarking on this journey with us and for Backing the Buzz.

Sincerely,

Michael Jordan

Ouch we pick 4th. Poor coaching and management to win those last three games.

Not a disaster though we save a boatload of cash and there are still several quality choices between porter, oladipo, and mclemore.

Noel was risky with the knee and his frail frame anyway

Yeah, I'm fine with the spot. It guarantees they won't pick Noel, who I never felt good about. McLemore might fall to them at #4. Oladipo would be a good pick too.

Still, I'm betting they do everything in their power to trade the pick. Seems like they want one of the late lottery big men -- Cody Zeller or Kelly Olynyck (sp?).

I dont really agree with that.

I see some chandler in noel, some wade in oladipo, and not really sure to compare porter too his stats just leap off the page.

Bennett will be the best pro out of that Porter, McLemore, Oldadipo, Len group.

Dude will be an absolute BEAST in two years when he develops physically.

I wouldn't say this draft is that shallow. The high-end talent isn't there at all, which is why people keep saying it's so weak, but you can get some decent guys 10-20. Michael Carter Williams, Cody Zeller, Caldwell-Pope from UGA.

I just don't see much difference in a guy like Noel (who will probably go #1) and a guy like Dieng from UL (who will probably go around 20). Both are dominant 6'11 shot blockers; Dieng weighs 230, Noel weighs 206. Dieng is better offensively, Noel is a little more athletic (at least before the injury).

His numbers are so inferior to porter I cant imagine that. Particularly since it came against weaker competition.

Heres what id do as GM

Utilize our cap space by signing and trading for someone a team isnt looking to resign but doesn't wanna lose for nothing. EX. Paul Millsap

Trade Ben Gordon expiring deal for a bad contract + 1st round pick.

Trade sessions mid season to a team who loses their pg to injury or a team who desperately needs a back up pg for their playoff run. Could get a late first rounder or raw cheap prospect for him.

Obviously let mullens walk hes a disaster. Henderson is ok but you cant afford to tie up mediocre players before you get stars or you really fuck yourself with nba cap structure so he walks obviously. Its kinda the same deal with McRoberts but if hes cheap enough like 2yrs $6m you have to keep for his trade value.

Build around kemba, mkg, millsap, biyombo and your porter/oladipo/mclemore pick.

We have 2 first rounders banked, 1 more if we trade Gordon, and our future lotto picks will be high the next 2-3 seasons still.

Then in a few years we have tons of young talent, expiring deals with tyrus and whoever we absorb in the gordon trade.

Everything is looking rosy for us if we have a little lotto luck, our current players keep developing, we get something for our trade assets, and we dont sign any duds (average players to big deals or shitty mullens type players for ANYTHING)

"Some Chandler in Noel". - I wouldn't want a ceiling of Tyson Chandler with my #1 pick.
"Some Wade in Oladipo" - No...just NO. Wade carried his team to the elite 8 and when healthy is one of the most athletic and offensively gifted guards in the game. Oladipo is a defensive minded SG that can get out and run. Not even close.

Otto Porter would be interesting, however what happens next year if you get the #1 pick and choose Wiggins or Parker? Your last two picks would be guys at the same position. I'd take Anthony Bennet in the hopes that he turns out like a Zach Randolph type.

Tyson Chandler has been one of the elite players in the nba the last thres years and hes certainly the best big man in the game now that dwight is injured.

He carried Dallas to a championship and singlehandedly turned the knicks around. Lets not be silly here. If noel is a poor mans Tyson Chandler you take him #1 without thinking twice.

Oladipo has some of the most efficient shooting and scoring numbers in the country. His steal and rebound rates are off the charts.

Hell he could end up being the next paul george. I cant imagine a scenario where he doesn't become a quality starter.

McLemore is high risk high reward.

Zeller seems like low risk low reward. He can score but he can't rebound. Tough to win like that unless you pair him with a dominant rebounding center like howard or Chandler.

Who's being silly? This is the most idiotic thing ive read in a long time.

Dirk singlehandedly carried that team to a title, and Carmelo turned the damn Knicks around.

They are going to get Dieng at 20 after Chandler was entire reason that the Knicks got their ass kicked by Indiana.

Agreed about Oladipo. He shot over 50% from 3pt range. He can't create his own shot very well, but he can definitely shoot. With his athleticism, defense, and intensity, he'll either be an All Star or one of the best role players in the league. Not bad for a #4 pick.

Don't agree about McLemore. How is a guy with the sweetest jump shot in the draft and incredible athleticism a risk? I don't think he'll be a superstar, but he seems a lot less risky than someone like Noel or Bennett (who supposedly is really only about 6'6).

Chandler played the postseason injured so I gguess hibbert got the best of him in this series but cmon lets not be silly.

Hibbert was pretty productive last year and average this year. But prior to that he was woeful his first three years.

This is like comparing Jordan to kendall gill. He had a good year in seattle once but lets not get carried away

Lol at dirk carrying them to a title he struggled mightily in the finals. He was a productive player a long time ago but he let Chandler carry them with some solid contributions from Marion and kidd, hot shooting from terry and Stevenson.

Dirk is completely washed up now his game deteriorated a long time ago and hes fortunate Dallas built a super team before he lost it completely so he gets credit for winning a title (though he wasnt able to contribute much and he almost cost them it)

Carmelo turned nyk around is revisionist history. They were nothing before chandler and denver improved by shedding him. The guy just doesn't have it and its likely never going to happen for him. Hes on the downside of his career, hes never figured out how to translate his skills into star production, and nyk has locked in a lot of aging players to huge contracts.

Carmelo is most likely going down as a never was. Open your eyes

Chandler has been in the league 12 years, this is Hibbert's 5th year

who cares if it took him a few years to become a superstar? Hibbert is a better center than Chandler right now, and you're all about judging players in the short term, hence you constantly saying things like "Player X was great last year, but he's average this year, therefore he's not a star anymore"

further, Chandler averaged 8 points, 9 boards and 0.9 blocks during Dallas' championship postseason, on 58% shooting

Dirk averaged 28 and 8 and 0.6 blocks on 49% shooting, as a shooter, not someone who got putback dunks all game...he also shot 46% from behind the arc

its extremely laughable to shit on dirk and suck chandler's dick for the 10-11 playoffs, unless you think FG% by itself is 10x more important than everything else, which maybe you do arturo does

I, too, like to compare Chandler to Jordan

Also, if you're playing the role of Charlotte GM & your first move isn't amnestying Thomas, then you're already wrong

I wouldn't amnesty thomas. We have plenty of cap space and the team isnt going to spend it all regardless.

They are trying to save money and amnestying thomas will cost them a ton of money as you are required to meet minimum salary requirements. I.e. if we amnesty him we have to sign someone else expensive.

Since signing a free agent now will harm us in the long run id keep thomas.

Theres a very minor chance he becomes a good player again when healthy. Or that he facilitates a deal the year his contract expires that we couldn't have made otherwise.

The negatives to amnestying thomas outweigh the positives anyway you look at it...

And comparing Chandler to Jordan isnt ridiculous. They were both top level players in their prime.

And Chandler was much better than Hibbert THIS season. In the postseason Chandler was hurt and tried to play thru it.

And I should have been more specific. Dirk was a non factor in the finals when Chandler carried them. He was pretty good against the lakers iirc

Chandler shot 10% higher from the field than Dirk shot from behind the arc
