Hudson will probably be a coach one day. Good luck to him in SF although I hope the rest of his team eats a dick.

Same to McCann.

I agree, business wise it doesn't make sense. As a Braves fan, though, it's hard to watch great players go elsewhere when you know that they will probably always consider the Braves as one of the best organizations to play for. Braves players over the years have become a fraternity, even if they only played 1 or 2 season there.

^^He tweeted:

"What if Huddy takes the mound for the first time in SF next yr, and no one is there to catch the 'first pitch'? Maybe the mascot? #karma"

Then he tweeted:

All butthurt shenanigans aside, I wish Kim all the best in San Fran!

then he tweeted:

Whoops, meant to say Tim! And Kim too. Sorry

8.5 with incentives

for some reason I like Floyd. and that's probably a fair contract. If he bombs, then $4M isn't all bad. But $8.5M is a bargain for a good season for 1/5 of your rotation.

Gavin Floyd is either really good or really bad. He's like the Dan Uggla of pitching.

Here's a better one

Quote :
"Mark Grace was on the Jim Rome show, and told about the time he was with the Cubs, and Greg Maddux was pitching. Maddux appeared uncomfortable on the mound, leading Grace to think he might have pulled his groin, thinking "Great, there goes our Cy Young pitcher." Upon going to the mound, Grace asked Maddux what was wrong. Maddux told Grace that, for some reason, he was "very aroused" and couldn't stop "being aroused." Grace responded: "Dude, you love to pitch, don't you?!""

Seeing that Cox, Glavine, and Maddux will all be going in together, I am very strongly considering going to the induction in Cooperstown. My wife is from upstate NY so I've got a place to stay already

Anyone have any idea what to expect?

Good move by the Braves to lock up their best hitter long term at an affordable rate. If he hit the FA market, he would have commanded more than that assuming he continues to hit like he has. They are getting Heyward at a bargin too assuming he stays healthy.

Kimbrel will probably command $15+M whenever he's a FA.

It looks like the Braves are going to avoid an arb hearing with Kimbrel. An extension could be announced soon.

Buster Olney ?@Buster_ESPN · 2m
Long-term extension is the only way ATL would be able to keep Craig Kimbrel. Dollars wouldn't work for ATL going yr.-to-yr. in arbitration.

Ken Rosenthal ?@Ken_Rosenthal · 1m
Source: #Braves indeed close to extension with Kimbrel.

The #Braves have agreed to terms with @kimbrel46 on a four-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration.

I've never really followed National League baseball before, but my friends convinced me to give it a run with the Braves this year.

It will be nice to finally get to watch on tv everyday instead of the MLB package on my laptop.

Awesome news on Kimbrel. Best reliever in baseball at $10 M annually or so is a steal. Locking down Teheran was a solid move too.

A number of articles on ESPN talking about the Braves latest moves and the future of the team. I guess some GMs are questioning giving FFF a long term deal since he's really only had one great year and signing a reliever (Kimbrel) at that price, but I honestly think both moves were excellent.

FFF may never be a 35 HR/yr 1B, but he does everything else extremely well. As one writer put it, he is the next best thing to Joey Votto. As for Kimbrel, the Braves are paying him for his prime years in which he should still be very dominant unless he gets hurt. Yeah closers are a dime a dozen, but not guys like Kimbrel. Hopefully if the Braves make the playoffs this year, they will use Kimbrel in the 8th and 9th innings (ala Rivera) and maximize his impact.

ugh. starting rotation is looking BAD

Medlen - did he blow his elbow out yesterday?
Minor - Urethra surgery. shoulder issues. should pitch, but is being delayed
Beachy - velocity, pitches are down
Teheran - best man standing
Garcia - brought in for depth
Wood - good looking young kid. unproven
Hale - good looking, but even more unproven that Wood
Floyd - still on hold from TJ surgery

Opening day rotation probably
Teheran
Garcia
Wood
Hale
?

spring has not been good to us

Aside from checking the occassional box score, haven't been able to keep up with the braves that much this spring. Does anyone know how BJ and Uggla are doing at the plate? Can't be having them being utterly useless again this year.

^^Ugglas actually having a good spring, not that it means much but maybe he worked a little harder. I wouldn't expect much but he would have to try pretty hard to be as bad as he was.

^ I'm not sure I like that deal. I don't really trust him as a pitcher, think he'll be average so we definitely overpaid a little, but I guess we need arms so whatever.

Did they ever say what happened with medlens MRI or whatever?

I think they initially said it was "forearm strain" or some such, then later said there was some "ligament involvement"... then going to get a second opinion.

I have a really bad gut feeling about it.

Medlen is done, Minor is likely to start the season on the DL, and Beachy has problems. Braves are screwed unless they hit like the Red Sox last year. Nats look stout too. Signing Santana is a reach, but when you are staring at a rotation of two rookies, two washed up vets, and one legit #2-3 starter, you get desperate. Braves with some NC State style shit to start the year.
