Canadians only do two speeds: serious and satirical. And satire is the most serious of the spoof genres.

So there's that.

I'm surprised they put New Slaves at #2, thats maybe my 4th or 5th favorite song on Yeezus.

and whats up with Ciara getting all the love? She was high on Rolling Stones list too. The song is alright, didnt think it was top 5-10 material though

^^ the ending of New Slaves puts it over the top

I've listened to that song an absolutely insane amount of times and that ending still gives me chills

I don't like drake because he's a shitty rapper with an annoying voice

I don't like kanye west because he is one of the most insufferable douche bags in the music industry, and while I won't dispute the fact that he has solid musical chops, I don't feel like I need to validate him by listening to his music when the year of our lord 2013 provided me with so many other amazing options to filter through my ears instead. He's one of very few instances where I have a difficult time separating the man from his work, and I won't contribute to the circle jerk

So for me it's not like my distaste for the two are related

i don't get that, but a lot of people like the knife and alt-j's voices, which i find insufferable.

he's not the best rapper, but he's not shitty. besides, it's not about being the best singer or rapper. if that's what you're looking for, go watch the Voice.

i don't think he's too over the top. he clearly has some issues, but at least he's honest about it. the media will always report the worst of it.

kanye is drake's biggest influence, so it's probably more related than you think

this probably deserves to be best something of 2013:

Quote :
"I'm pushing the envelope! I wrote my fuckin' 'Run This Town' verse for a fuckin' month! When I heard Eminem's verse on the Drake shit, I went back and rewrote my shit for two days. I canceled appointments to rewrite! I fuckin' care! You know what I'm saying? And that's what I'm saying. Because I did that, Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé. As long as I'm alive! And if I'm alive, kill me then! Kill me then! As long as I'm alive, you gon' have to deal with it. 'Cause there ain't gonna be no more motherfucking Elvises with no James Browns."

he's not. that shit doesn't bother me much. he was drunk with friends when he said it. i'm sure you and i have both said pretty stupid garbage while drinking.

clearly he has some issues, and he has trouble articulating his thoughts sometimes, but he's passionate and honest, which i respect. i don't buy the garbage story the celeb-stalking media likes to paint.

the negative overreaction over anything he does absolutely baffles me, considering he is one the absolute rarest artists who consistently backs his shit up time after time

but I guess the "lolz Kanye did something again" headlines are enough for some people

yeah, the "kanye did something again" headlines are totally just to go after kanye because everyone hates him for being so good and not because he behaves like a ridiculous, petulant child at every opportunity and brings it upon himself. he's not the only egomaniac out there, but he's certainly one of the most disrespectful to other people on top of that. i don't care if he was nice to will ferrell on the set of anchorman. dude is pushing 40. grow up already.

i mean shit. he's railing against the business side of the music industry in that clip, yet he rubs shoulders with the biggest businessman in music who tries to get pictures of everyone drinking his champagne and knocks up a media whore who gets paid $10,000 just to tweet the name of a business. those things don't help when you publicly take yourself super fucking seriously and demand to be validated by everyone.

no, they are lazy and do absolutely nothing to actually look into some of the things he is actually saying

and if they are what keeps him going, keep them coming, because it's been a hell of a fascinating ride

what is he ACTUALLY saying though? i see this a lot where people try to defend kanye's inane outbursts like he's got an original, introspective idea, or that he meant for the line "i keep it 300 like the romans" to intentionally flub a reference to a movie because it fit whatever the narrative of the song was rather than just being lyrics he threw in that made no sense and were used to fit a rhyme scheme and assume you'll just kind of fill in the blanks. something something he's a genius.

at that show in london he criticized other artists for the way that they make money off of pop music. he took shots at justin timberlake and taylor swift because they don't treat pop music as Serious Art. imagine that. people figure out how to write pop songs that appeal to millions of other humans who only want a catchy hook and nothing else, and they're some how assholes because they're trying to make money instead of putting on some weird stage production to make some statement about who the fuck cares.

like, who gives a fuck? that's what people have been doing for fucking decades. why is this guy so upset about it? i'm sure he didn't start writing beats for people to get into the music industry and make money. and there was just so much creativity and artistic integrity in those first few albums of his that sold millions of copies. it's like somewhere along the way he thinks he turned into david bowie or something and now everything has to be a god damn spectacle, because Art.

the thing is, in my initial post in response to "huh huh the same people who don't like drake are also the same people who don't like kanye west," nothing i said about kanye west was incorrect. he's a pompous ass. i don't care who listens to him. i choose not to because of my personal convictions towards him based on his behavior in given contexts. i was also at bonnaroo 5 years ago for that fiasco. defend that one as the media blowing kanye's behavior out of proportion. he'd be fine if he would just shut the fuck up, make some records, and shut the fuck up some more in between those records. the media can't get you if you don't give them something to talk about. for all his genius, he can't figure that one out.

I honestly think Get Lucky is kind of by far a much better single (also a better song) than Instant Crush. everyone's opinion of it is skewed by hearing it three million times. forgot about Wild For The Night and Fuckin Problems, both are great. Todd Terje/Lindstrom - Lanzarote is another favorite of mine.

it's not so much that i get riled up about kanye so much as it's the whole "no, you see, i am an artist" mentality that people take to justify behaving like dicks. see also: amanda palmer.

it's also more people acting like i'm the dick for thinking kanye is a dick and not liking him who rile me up more than kanye himself.

For me, I just don't enjoy his music much - simple as that. I've tried way too many times to get into him because every album he puts out people fawn over. But every time it's the same: it's not offensive to my ears, but it's nothing that I'd make an effort to actively listen to either.

This of course is just a reflection of my personal taste. Not trying to say he is subjectively bad or anything.

he's only a dick sometimes though. it just gets blown up in the news every time it happens.

amanda palmer is objectively awful

simple fact of the universe. anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly deluded or misinformed.
