Don't know if any of you saw this yet, but Rachel Maddow offers what I view as a more plausible (but still despicable) explanation for why Christie's people did what they did.

The whole endorsement thing never made any sense to me after all. Fort Lee's mayor is not that important a politician to begin with, and given that he's a Democrat, it's not like you'd expect him to endorse Christie in the first place. 1/10/2014 2:58:44 PM |

Apparently there was some controversy in New Jersey about the state Supreme Court. Christie did something really shitty and unprecedented and then Senate Democrats started blocking his nominees. Some stuff happened, Christie didn't like this and withdrew a Republican candidate from consideration who was the wife of someone in his administration. He was clearly pissed and he gave a hastily called together press conference to criticize the Dems literally the evening before the bridge shutdown. The leader of Senate Dems was representing Ft. Lee. Boom, nailed.
There's probably some stuff I left out but that's the gist of it. 1/10/2014 3:41:53 PM |

If we threw that kind of conspiracy you're way regarding Obama you would tell us how we're being blindly led by our conservative news outlets. Oh yea and you would call us crazy too. 1/10/2014 5:45:41 PM |

We don't know that it came from Christie, but we do know that someone did it on purpose and what she said makes a lot more sense than the endorsement theory. The idea that its about the supreme court stuff is a lot less crazy than the idea that its about an endorsement.

Just days after dismissing two top advisers for their roles in the George Washington Bridge scandal, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is facing questions over the use of Superstorm Sandy relief funds.
CNN has learned that federal officials are investigating whether Christie improperly used those relief funds to produce tourism ads that starred him and his family. 1/13/2014 9:13:38 AM |

The fact that the money may have been used to advertise tourism for the devastated coastal area is fine. The fact that they turned down considerably cheaper bids to produce the video is eyebrow raising, however. 1/14/2014 4:39:15 PM |

nothing in the entire first half of the Maddow report is new or different or any worse. it's pretty obvious and clear that when he said he "did not interact with him for a long time" he is talking about the gap between meeting him in high school and recent times, i.e. they are not childhood friends, so its not scandalous that he had recent interactions with him. i mean, he explicitly admits to interacting with him a few times, its not a lie or scandal. they could have cut 9 minutes out of that piece.
its hilarious that he's dug himself such a big hole over something so dumb. 1/16/2014 5:40:37 PM |

If true, ouch.
Ironically, his love of money seems to have made him act more bipartisanly, at least outwardly. Seems like that's how capitalism is supposed to work... Those wealthy developers are just trying to provide value to those local residents, and the rules are getting in their way. If they can use their money to let the market work, what's wrong with that.... 1/18/2014 11:48:56 AM |
