I mean, if the argument is that XPs are essentially automatic and therefore boring, then couldn't/shouldn't the same argument be applied to FGs in general? That's why I'd argue, if anything, make the fg posts more narrow. In addition to that you could also move the XP distance back as well. " |
I was trying not to open that can of worms and stick to one point at a time, but I am not against tightening the goalposts. I would still rather see an extra offensive play than an XP through 50 ft or 5ft wide goalposts in either case.1/22/2014 11:21:20 PM |

Put a lintel (ooooooooohhhhh, motherfucker just said "lintel") over the uprights.
It would force all fied goals and PATs to be kicked at a lower angle, causing more blocked kicks, and less judgment calls by the officials as the ball would clearly go in or out of the box.
Plus, seeing a giant yellow box sit atop a yellow pole would make me laugh.
That's not a serious suggestion. I just wanted to say lintel. 1/22/2014 11:40:03 PM |

we should put a basket at the back of the endzone.
if you score a TD, 6 points
after that, you have to fight your way through other players to get the ball in the basket, and anything goes
also, have various melee weapons on the sideline for when a player taunts the other sideline, a group of guys can chase him back to his sideline
if the game is still tied after the overtime period, then both teams have an all out battle royale on the field 1/23/2014 8:39:01 AM |

Random question, but this thread reminded me of it:
Why can't the "defensive" team return a blocked XP for 2 points? That pisses me off when they call that a dead ball. 1/23/2014 9:05:20 AM |

because from the 2 yard line the kicking team has almost no chance to stop a return. 1/23/2014 9:44:48 AM |

meh. I think it'd make things more interesting keep it a live ball. Want to kick a 99% chippee for one point? Fine, but take the risk of it turning into 6+ points for the other team. Don't like that? Go for 2 instead. 1/23/2014 10:22:34 AM |

Thereby making almost every enclosed football stadium in the country too short for a football field.
Genius.
Get rid of the kicked extra point and have a 2-point conversion be for one point.
I play rugby and kicking it from the spot of where scored would be fun, but I don't know how many people on the rules committee follow rugby and the NFL got rid of that rule 80 years ago. Compare NFL hash marks to college hash marks, they're tiny, so the NFL doesn't like side-to-side field position changing anyway.1/23/2014 10:46:48 AM |
