^^^^how is disagreeing with a male on male kiss homophobic? Your comment proves my point exactly. You can't disagree with anything without being a bigot.
He disagreed with that kiss. I guess he shouldn't have done it publicly, but as the Sterling thing has shown us, it doesn't matter if you do it privately either.

telling another person something is never going to be 100% private. You don't want people finding out how you feel about something? Don't say it to anyone. Sorry if that's too difficult for some people 5/13/2014 3:19:18 PM |

the line between private and public is rapidly disappearing.
I think that is sad and I dont agree with a person's private conversations being used to hang him (ie...Sterling). I dont care what he did, I dont want to encourage things like this.
while you sit on your high horse and condemn him and those like him, take a second and think all of the rotten shit you have said or done in private, jokingly or otherwise, and how those things would look represented to the public at large. I imagine every one of us has things we are not proud of and could be made to suffer greatly were those things presented in an unflattering manor.
fuck this overly sensitive, fake-outrage generating, PC bullshit society we are creating. fuck it in the ass like those two on draft day.

I do get irritated that people are so sensitive, but thats not the point here. the point is the line between private thoughts and opinions and public thoughts/actions. there has to be a difference, no matter who you are.

look, my point is not to defend this windbag. I dont give 2 shits about him. my point is to defend the idea that a person should be allowed to have private thoughts and private conversations. not everything is meant for public consumption, nor should it be. think about if someone taped a conversation with you trashing your work for one reason or another, and then took it to your boss. its the same thing, basically.
also, does this mean the entire NBA will be held to the same standard? there are a bunch of guys playing and coaching right now that have a lot worse than use racially insensitive language. Jason Kidd, for example, beat the shit out of his wife. should he not also be banned for life? that seems a lot worse to me.5/14/2014 9:19:41 AM |

It's their decision how they want to handle each case, but I wouldn't have a problem if they decided to ban Kidd
I just am not understanding what you'd like the NBA to do in this situation. You think he should be able to say something like that to someone in private and not have it become public. But it has become public. Even if the girl making that public is illegal and we throw her in jail, it's still public now, and the NBA still has to make their own business decision about how to handle. You want to impose some sort of rule on what decisions they're allowed to make? 5/14/2014 9:59:29 AM |

thoughts and conversations are actually quite different. thoughts are words that you say to yourself in your head but don't actually say them out loud, and conversations are when you actually take the next step to utter those words to another person. the cool thing about thoughts and that it's impossible for anyone to really ever know them, since nobody can actually read your mind. you can actually think/believe horrible, evil, ridiculous things all you want, and not one single person will ever know unless you convert your thoughts into spoken word. sorry, but even billionaires aren't immune from this important distinction.

So why aren't you mad at the bimbo who made these comments public? Anyone can say what they want in private; but there is no right or guarantee that if those comments become public, that you are immune to retribution. That's always been the case. Sterling isn't the first person that this has happened to and won't be the last. As soon as you open your mouth to anyone, your thoughts aren't in your sole-private domain anymore, as you have willingly shared them. If I were trashing my work to someone and they told the boss, I'd sure as hell expect some recourse.
As far as holding the NBA to the same standard, players and owners have always been held to different standards. I don't see what's different about this. Not saying that's right or wrong, but what it is.

You are defending him. He was trying to force his mistress to stop hanging out with black people in public. She didn't like this and got back at him. When he was given the opportunity to give his perspective on national tv, he continued to say dumb racist things. His privacy wasn't violated, he did this to himself.
When a person with wealth and power tries to use their power over their acquaintances to push their racist viewpoints, that's not a private thought. That's wrong.
Sterling is the only one responsible for sterlings predicament. What happened to personal responsibility...?

^ i think that's the issue.
People who have been known to semi-publicly espouse racist or bigoted ideas (people in this very thread... who have such a record on TWW) are now worried that society has started to work against them, and are trying to frame this as a "privacy" issue, rather than being honest with themselves and acknowledging their opinions are backwards and unwanted by society at large.
The fact of the matter is that how you treat people matters, what you say can come around and haunt you. Don't tell your half-black concubine that you don't like black people, and she should stay away from them. 5/14/2014 4:50:59 PM |

When it comes to Sterling, the OP is concerned about privacy - assuming he didn't know he was being recorded. There are some here who say he might've known. If that is the case then oh well, he's an idiot.
As far as Jones goes, he should have the ability to give his opinion. If there was language in his contract that says otherwise, then oh well, he's an idiot.
