30M for Shaw is ridiculous and just highlights the problem with English football

English player extremely overpriced by English club being purchased by another English club. Rinse. Repeat. No other club abroad with half a brain would pay that sum.

Really though, England fans wonder why the EPL is flooded with cheap foreign players, which in turn halt's English progression. This is a perfect example.

Another example of England's progression is somebody like Rodwell toiling away on the bench for City. Could easily be a more than competent DM at international level if he could get some games.

£25m for Lallana to Liverpool. Like him but for that price you can get Alexis Sanchez who is better... In any case I hope this helps Sanchez to Arsenal. Ozil with his runs...... Yes!

Also isn't Sterling/Lallana redundant? I know big squad is necessary but for £25m?

where'd you see that? and yes, I agree with you. Especially now that Suarez probably won't be around, we need a goalscorer.

Herrera probably slightly better value. At least Lallana has proven himself in PL already though.

^ I agree. It will be interesting to see how each one pans out. Obviously they are different kinds of players but lets see what happens. I hate the premium you have to pay on English players these days.

Jeez Liverpool all over the transfer rumors today. Lallana, Origi and Markovic.

Curiously not a hint at a defender which is really odd.

Debuchy is all but official. He confirmed but Arsenal hasn't. He's OK I guess and probably will be about the same as Sagna but no real improvement.

Sanchez seems close as well. Still need a new CB and a legit holding DM...

I know jack shit about Markovic but it seems like a really high price for an unproven young talent. Feels a little like LFC is trying to do what Spurs did after Bale left.

Hey Ribs here is another Arsenal post.

Thinking about Ozil having runners who can finish like Alexis and Walcott flanking him is mouthwatering. He had Rosicky and Cazorla out wide half of last year....

Too bad a donkey like Giroud will surely still be up front..

I get a kick out of how you think Ozil is some kind of god to football. He's a one footed mid that had a decent two months and then was basically non-existent post Feb. He should be counting his blessings that he's still getting a run out for Germany at this point.

Eriksen this year > Ozil this year

I was critical of Ozil but he will settle and have a better surrounding cast this year. Even in an average/poor year Squawka comparison with Eriksen isn't really even close.

Ozil created ten more chances and his total score was far better. Eriksen scores more from set pieces though.

[Edited on July 10, 2014 at 11:19 AM. Reason : I like Eriksen. He could potentially reach Ozils consistency soon]

[Edited on July 10, 2014 at 11:19 AM. Reason : Also leads Germany in chances created this WC]

I think Ozil is a bit overrated as well. Completely disappears from a ton of games but it's a decent trade off because when he's good, he's really good.

The story behind Pique's success
Quote :
"
"During Van Gaal’s first run as manager at Barcelona, he was having lunch at the home of a club director, whose grandson happened to be the 14-year-old Gerard Piqué. The young defender was already a student at Barça’s famed youth academy, La Masia, and, eager to impress the Dutchman, was introduced as the team’s future center back. Van Gaal walked over to Piqué and shoved him to the ground. “You’re too weak to play for Barcelona.""

Suarez to Barca is officially on LFC website.€80m.

Pool fans, what are your thoughts on Bony? I know he started slow last year but he finished with 25 goals in all comps. Not a bad return... if they do pull trigger would he work well together with Sturridge?

Most importantly, what are some defensive targets? I'm not seeing a plan other than doubling up at midfield and attacking positions so far this year (admittedly with quality).

Sucks to lose that talent but a nice return on someone mentally unstable who is likely to be permabanned at any time. Hoping the Reds don't pull a Spurs and make a ton of stupid buys just because they have the funds.

Lovren has seemed likely for a while. Bertrand, Davies and Moreno have also been mentioned. Not major upgrades in my opinion, but still improvements nonetheless (but no on Bertrand please). A proper left back can move Flanno back to RB also. And we all know that I rate Sakho higher than you.

I like Bony from what I've seen and I like that they're going after proven entities in the Premier League. Here's how I see it - Preferred front 5 of Studge, Gerrard, Henderson, Coutinho, Sterling. So there's 4 players available for the 6th if all these signings go down like they're rumored to. Bony/Lambert for midtier/lower table PL games. Lallana/Markovic for better teams and CL. Almost all of those players are interchangeable at various positions so it gives Rodgers a ton of flexibility. Allen/Can to give Gerrard/Henderson rest on a regular basis.

re: the defense. It's just the way Liverpool plays that's going to open up the game a bit more and make it harder on their defense, in my opinion. Certainly they can improve but it's pretty difficult to play that style and lock down defensively every game.

Ribs should clearly be managing a top top team. I mean what are Jogi Low and Wenger thinking wasting their time and starting Ozil? He is such a waste of space. Ribs for armchair manager of the year.

For what its worth I don't disagree about Ozil. He goes missing during games. But the thing is, after the game you check and he still created 3 or 4 chances -- most on the field. His finishing is awful but I think that's confidence more than any thing else.

A lot of the stick he gets is about tracking back which is retarded but the English media has it out for him. He is a true AM (shit, Germany has had him as a false nine even) and when he is wrongly played out wide be simply doesn't have the pace or stamina to track back consistently. Funny, I've never seen the media or other fans rip Silva or Mata for not tracking back from a AM position...
