Again, I highly doubt that either of those two ever see a Canes jersey. Raleigh simply isn't appealing for a young superstar. I am guessing that Toronto will be heavily involved in the McDavid sweepstakes, and Boston will likely have an interest in Eichel. Yes, because the kids are from those areas respectively, but also because Boston will be looking for future help on the blue line, and TO is already rumored to be shopping Lupul.

There are two sides to every story I suppose, but Jack Johnson reiterated his commitment to his sophomore year at Michigan repeatedly pretty much from day one and in fact maintained that commitment even after being traded to Los Angeles. Maybe he really just didn't ever want to play for the Canes but I doubt it; seems to be like more of a story of Jim Rutherford trying to rush another prospect then throwing a bitch fit and mortgaging the team's future when he wouldn't play ball.

Either way, you won't see the same thing with a player like McDavid or Eichel, because they are going to be ready to play in the NHL their rookie year and most definitely are not going to be willing to simply sit out for four years waiting for their rights to expire.

Florida also stopped giving away free or discounted tickets this season in order to stop devaluing their season tickets. If Carolina did the same thing (ie no more $2 tickets on StubHub) the arena might not look a whole lot better.

Let's see what a picture of our arena looks like on when Ottawa rolls in on a Tuesday in a few months while we're battling Buffalo for last place in the league. It'll look slightly better than that thanks to stubhub cheapos and ticket handouts, but not by a lot.

Hopefully Ron isn't JR and decides to start dealing in a few months when we're already out of it instead of trying to patch things up because "we like our group."

In the cold light of day, I'm not as depressed about the Buffalo loss as I was while I was there. At least there were some flashes from the younger guys, especially Murphy, Boychuk, and Terry. I don't see how this team can do much down 3 of the top 6 forwards AND losing Sekera in the first, when we were already thin in the first place.

That said, Semin needs to SHOOT THE FUCKING PUCK.

With Eric's no-trade clause, I don't see a Leafs trade happening. The amount of shit he gets from media and fans around here when he's playing poorly is a tiny drop in the bucket compared to what he'd get in Toronto. And honestly, I don't think the Leafs are significantly better than a healthy Hurricanes roster, especially if the trade ends up costing Kadri and Gardiner.

I don't think Staal gets traded, but I suspect he would waive his NTC, even for Toronto. His career has kind of slowly started circling the drain here and there doesn't exactly seem to be a ton of hope on the horizon for this franchise. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he jumped at the chance for a new start. He has one season left on his contract after this one and I'm not sure he's going to sign an extension so the team could look to cash in while they can.
