Cat missing free throws, Dez turning it over... Hard to watch us choke this away. Been a state fan long enough to know how this ends.

my optimist: hope this becomes a good win by end of season...

pessimist/realist: this was a terrible win, that should have been 10+ point win easily.

Gotta make FTs and offense is still a work in progress. Defense looked encouraging.

A win is a win, but this wasn't pretty.

Since when is a 10 point lead a safe cushion in college hoops?

I think that if you consider how well allen played for them down the stretch, and that we did come up with some good plays at the end (Barber), it wasn't all that bad.

I dunno about that...I thought it was more just an execution problem (bad turnover by Dez, a charge on BeeJay hurt us, missed FTs by everybody) than poor coaching by Gott. Definitely give Antigua and USF credit for pressuring us and forcing some TOs, though.

Dez in a game late is bad coaching. Guaranteed turnover and shaky freethrows in the clutch.

I thought I recalled Dez being a solid FT shooter last year, maybe I'm mis-remembering though

I do question the rotation with Dez not playing for 30 minutes, and then playing the final 10 minutes. Just odd.

[Edited on November 23, 2014 at 6:36 PM. Reason : but he is definitely shaky with the ball]

Just got back from the game.

I thought that the two man ball between Cat and Lacey was explosively dynamic and smooth. I really liked watching those 2 get into a rhythm. Our backcourt seems very solid this year, and you can definitely tell how Gott has adjusted his playbook to fit the current talent that we have.

BJ is gonna be huge for us. The guy is much more fluid with the ball underneath the basket and has a soft touch for how big and clumsy he looks. I think that he is on the correct path.

Washington is gonna be a guy that we love and hate, but we have to have somebody worth a damn in the post, and I think that this is what he will continue to do. He is nowhere near the McAdoodle chuck-em-up level though, so don't get to upset that he ain't a chris bosh yet.

Despite a couple of turnovers at the end of this game, I really like the idea of a fresh Dez coming in as a closer at the end of games. You know exactly what he is gonna do on offense, and he gets his points.

With 3 minutes to play an 11 point lead should be safe. In that time we had 2 turnovers and and were 3-8 from the line. That's awful.

Not exactly sure how it was scored...but I know Dez lose the ball once, but Cat immediately got it back and was fouled. Not sure if that was scored a turnover on Dez and then a turnover by USF. If you're counting that as one of the turnovers, then that one didn't exactly come back to hurt us. Except that, I think, Cat only made 1 of those FTs

First game I saw this season and the last 2 minutes looked like season 13-14 redux. Outside of that there were a couple of good pointers.

1. Cat surprised me, he's a much more polished point guard but needs to be clutch in free throws.
2. Lacey is good
3. BJ has good blocks but needs a better presence in the post
4. Caleb plays much older than his age
5. Turner is Turner
6. Washington plays much smaller than he is. Too many outside shorts imho, needs to be a better post player
7. Lol, Dez...

12 point lead was not safe against saint louis.

We really miss tl because now we have 1 guy who can dribble against pressure and hes a 70% ft shooter. That means this will happen every game unless we win by a lot.

just if anyone was curious, according to the bill james lead calculator, you need a 17 point lead without the ball (or 16 with) with 3 minutes left for it to be 'safe'

He is nice player who should play when we are up 20 or down 20. Sorry but with the talent we have now he should not see meaningful minutes. Caleb is already better and more polished.

I'm sure Caleb will change my mind with some boneheaded freshman plays, but I'm not sure he shouldn't play ahead of turner at this point.

Caleb was losing his man some in transition again today. Not as egregiously as he was in the Hofstra game, but still pretty bad. I like him a lot and think he's gonna be a great player for us, though, and Dez shouldn't be playing over him in most cases (he did a pretty decent job guarding their PG late in the game today but obviously shouldn't be handling the ball himself)

Dez is better than you're giving him credit for.

He and Caleb also play different positions.

Dez isn't gonna play much with teams playing primarily zone against us. You're gonna see alot of Cat/Lacey/Turner/Caleb. All 4 have shown they can hit an open 3. Dez has not.

I have a friend's lower level ticket to most games, but drove four others yesterday who bought tickets in 309 for ~$4 after fees. Someone from the arena came up 4 or 5 minutes into the game (not sure if clock time or real time) and gave GA student tickets to anyone who wanted them (apparently only about half did), so they sat in 112 or 113 for the remainder of the game.
