yeah, i've listened to that record a ton over the past few weeks. Very, very good. But I loved Age of Adz too for entirely different reasons.

^ were you aware that "Waiting" was getting the 15 Year Anniversary treatment?

I wasn't until I happened to notice that Ian Cohen reviewed it today

soooooooo many memories associated with that album

I'm about to hop in the car for a 3 hour drive. Pretty sure I'm going to be starting with that album now I can't even remember the last time I've heard that one haha.

Thanks for the heads up.

Just listened to Toro Y Moi's new album...pretty rocky. Don't think I like it nearly as much as his Anything in Return.

new passion pit is pretty 'meh'. I enjoyed the last two to some extent; good and catchy, but not great. But this just lacks a lot of feeling.

New Mew album is taking some warming up to as well.

the new Mikal Cronin is excellent

and as much as I hate to admit this, I kinda like the new Mumford and Sons album. I'm sure I'll be sick of these songs by the end of the summer when the radio overplays everything

I haven't purchased an album in years, but I might have to grab this one when it drops.

Slum Village - Expressive:

Is that an old Dilla beat or does he just have shit piled up like Tupac tracks?

I finally picked up the Kamasi Washington album and, GOOD LORD, it is one hell of a contemporary jazz album. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys jazz.

yep. The Waxahatchee album was solid. Best Coast was decent - I can see myself listening to it in the background without focusing on it too much. Nothing special but still enjoyed some of it.

Also, since I've been out of the loop, I thought maybe a new Beach House record was out based on your previous post. I was sad to find out last night that a new album won't be out until the end of August

This Vola record, Inmazes, has really been growing on me this week.

The first time I ran across it I thought they were really confused as a band: It's Meshuggah meets Depeche Mode meets deftones. And, while I like those individual bands, I just wasn't sure what to think of all of it rolled into one. However, the more I listen, the more I enjoy it and realize they actually pull it off quite well and it's wormed it's way into my brain.

went ahead and bought that album last night. I do enjoy several tracks from the simple standpoint of being catchy. Loud Places is probably my favorite song on the album after one listen.

Overall it's not something I can get super into but it's not a regretful purchase at all; I definitely see myself spinning it more but I just don't think I can enjoy it to the extent of giving it any consideration for top albums of the year like other people. TPAB was similar for me.

Picked up Tenement's Predatory Headlights today. First listen is quite positive. Think Dinosaur Jr/Thin Lizzy/Replacements/Hot Rod Circuit all thrown into a blender.

new mewithoutYou is out today. It's a very solid record - maybe one of their best but I'm just not as into them as much anymore after 13 years. Still worth the purchase.

Also bought today:

No Joy - More Faithful (pretty solid record on first listen. noisy shoegaze in the vein of stuff like A Sunny Day in Glasgow)
Sorority Noise - Joy, Departed (emo revival)
Vattnet Viskar - Settler (post-rock/post-metal with a bit of black metal)

Finally got around to pre-ordering the new Tame Impala as well.

That Vattnet Viskar album is nothing super original in terms of post-metal mixing in BM but I don't even care because they managed to make it extremely enjoyable. My one main comment is that at times the gritty production suits the songs well and other times I wish there was more clarity on some of the melodic parts. But still, fun record and a step up from their previous. Definitely glad I picked this up on a whim yesterday as I believe it will be one of my favorites of the year.

The No Joy album was also a pleasant surprise. I had heard their name but never actually listened to them. It is also very enjoyable and has gotten better with subsequent listens.
